Full eclipse

"Welcome back, today I have the pleasure of talking with someone who has been on the lips of thousands in recent times, she is a nineteen year old high school graduate, and a potentialist waiting for college applications". Genevieve hinted with a smile, she peered at the girl once more and continued her flowery words, she was afterall in a good mood aided by trusty refills of lattes.

"With me here in the studio, is miss Lavender Black". She turns fully to Lavender, who is wearing a bright smile. "How are you today?".

"I am fine, thank you".

"You have, quite a peculiar name".

Lavender rolls side to side on the swivel chair, and offers a flustered 'thank you'.

"Can you tell us... how you found the Laâve app?".

"I got to know of it through my younger brother, while I was in high school".

On Genevieve's crossed leg is a paper filled with bulleted questions, her right hand is resting on the oak table, idly rotating a ballpoint pen.
"So you created your rant space immediately?".

"No". Lavender shook her head, "I mostly used the app for sharing memes and chatting with my friends and family".

"What exactly led to creating a rant space?"

"I hadn't any intention to create a rant space". Lavender pointed out, "I had the app for approximately two years; doing random stuff, and in the early part of January my younger brother fell sick. I didn't take it serious, his stomach aches are not strange encounters, he is a renowned junk eater and so we gave him the normal drugs for stomach ache.

Lavender laughed at the  memories it surged up.

"But one day, he came really down with a stomach ache and, he was admitted into the hospital. In a couple of weeks after his admittance, I had to stop going to school because i couldn't grasp anything, all I could picture was my  younger brother on the hospital bed, griping his bedsheet with so much pain. He could barely talk all they strung out of him were weak nod in response to their question.

His blue eyes were seeping into fiery flames, he struggled with sleep, he had issues with defecating, if he managed to eat, it would look like it worsened his condition, I was watching  him every single day, he'd gasp and wimp and coil on his bed, and I was unable to do anything about it. I couldn't help him.

She dabbed her eyes with a purple handkerchief, though it barely achieved its aim, the tears were streaming down her cheeks, past her collar bones to her matte gown. "It was during that period that my mom was informed of my grandmother's health. I don't know how it is for others, but my younger brother and I formed a really close knit with granny. I suddenly realized that I was on the edge of losing two of my favorite persons"

She sniffs and connects eyes with her mother, who gives a silent nod.

"You see, my mom is a therapist, and I decided to practice what she has been teaching us since we could talk, I let it out. My first attempt at letting it out was crying  in my brother's room, it wasn't my intention I just wanted to arrange his room and... I was engulfed in his scent, i took a break to sit on the floor and I realized that I was crying the whole time .

"After that day, I came down with a brief illness since I was either  crying or eating nothing. One day when I was recovering, I accidentally clicked on laâve, i didn't log out immediately I took my time scrolling through our numerous pictures together. In that moment I decided to write how I felt.

"Was it enough help?" Genevieve interjected.

A sigh escaped Lavender's lips, "It was reliving, I felt like I had thrown my burden away, and even it was temporary I appreciated it. In the subsequent week my brother started responding to treatment and with so much joy in my heart I went back to my previous post, and replied with many hearts and 'wish granted'.

"Do you consider it a coincidence?" Genevieve inquired, she was looking at the girl with new eyes. "That one day you write a post and add a wish to it, then the following week your brother starts responding to treatment".

She shook her head. "I won't call it a coincidence and I don't think of it as anything but an answered prayer".

"Do you realize how that simple reply to your own post, changed the dynamics of everything on the Laâve app?".

"My reply did not change the dynamic of Laâve, what my reply did was create a new surge of hope amongst people struggling with similar issues".

"They call it the wishing app,  though the percentage of people that claim their wishes we're granted is barely thirty five percent".

"The barely thirty five percent are without doubt happy, and the remaining I try to think that they are not giving up".

This was not the expected reply,  Genevieve mulled, before asking her next question. "What made you create 'X-relief' on the Laâve  app?".

"When I saw the reactions of people to my post, I decided to create an avenue in which people can express themselves and possibly get relief, if not an answered prayer or solution.

'X-relief' is an acronym for Express relief, I created an anonymous link so that when people express themselves in a post, only the post can be seen, nobody knows who sent the message".

"That's brilliant!" Genevieve concluded, "Do you think it has helped, and why do you not respond to them".

"Thank you, without doubt I think it has helped. I can't reply to every message even though I never  attempted a reply, in the space I created on laâve ( that is 'X-relief') I made it in such a way that, every anonymous sender gets a number or an alphabet and of course their  message is public, so that people can reply in reactions or words.

"How is your younger brother and grandmother?".

"My younger brother is better now, though he goes for regular check-up, and unfortunately my grandmother did not make it".

"I am sorry for your loss". Lavender forces a terse smile, her eyes roaming the news studio.

"Can you call 'X-relief' a success?".

"Though I have no competitive desire towards it, and I am not a certified therapist— my mom is. I think 'X-relief' has helped alot of people and I am genuinely happy for them, though I had to block some intrusive persons who did not know the essence of it".

"Do you think of it as the wishing app,  afterall your wish was granted?".

"Never, though I state that people should make a wish whenever they want to send a post, I also remind them that its not a certainty that their wish will be granted. I was genuinely surprised when I started seeing reference to it as the wishing app.  Laâve has always been a platform in which I could post pictures and write-ups, the app doesn't even support videos or anything more than pictures and write-ups".

"With the recent rave and decrying, will you continue it or you will delete 'X-relief' and altogether your account".

"People who are against it, are in three categories; the ones who do not understand it, the ones who do not understand it and don't attempt to understand it, and the ones who know how liberating it is and are against it.

This is not a matter of me turning into a harmful social media influencer, its a matter of why they are holding on to harmful beliefs and why their minds are so rigid, as I have always assured, if Laâve  discovers any non characteristic act on their app  they wouldn't hesitate to delete the prepatators  account or take needful actions. You can also check their agreement form,  I have not asked for money or anything from the people in 'X-relief' and I don't plan to.

"As for deleting my account, its a big No, I may get busy and not be as active as before, but I won't delete it, it has been one of the many avenues of letting out and expressing myself.

As for 'X-relief' I think it goes beyond just my ownership of that space, I don't own the people that makes use of it and I haven't gotten a tangible reason to delete it".

She watched Genevieve nod, and added. "I hope they respect my decision".

"That's for sure" Genevieve reassured, though she pondered over why, any sane person wouldn't.

She turned to the face the camera, a steely smile on her lips. "Thank you for joining us in today's program, you can send your feedbacks and questions to our social media pages displaying on the screen".

"I am Genevieve akin". She flips her booklet close. "Thank you for staying with us".

The screen turns black and a random toothpaste adverts starts to play.
