Hold Me While You Wait

September 2022

A knock was heard on her door. Rivet walked down to open it. Standing there was the new captain of the Galactic Rangers, Elaris. Rivet knew that something was wrong because Ratchet isn't back yet.

" Is Ratchet okay?! Please tell me that he's okay!" Rivet said.

Elaris took a deep breath. She never had to do this before. Nobody in the Rangers died, they made sure of it. Not until tonight...

" He.... he sacrificed his life to save us... we were ambushed on the Starship Phoenix. He.... he decided to stay behind and take on their leader... let's say... he didn't make it and..."

Rivet was in shock, her whole body was stuck like she was frozen in ice. She felt like time stood still for her. She was trying to process the news.

Tears welled up in her eyes, she hugged Elaris as she cried.

" I'm so sorry..."

Rivet jolted awake. It's been a year since that incident. A year of healing for her RJ and Roy. a year since...

A year since she found someone new... but she could never move on after that experience, ever. The same dream replayed in her head for that year and it was awful.

She could never let go or move on.

Rivet moved on physically but mentally. She couldn't. She heard someone in the shower.

"Ratchet?" she asked. When he walked out it Wasn't Ratchet. The man was tall and built. He had short curly hair and brown eyes.

"Hey.... how'd you sleep?" The man asked.

"Like garbage..... The dream doesn't stop replaying in my head, Peter!" Rivet said.

The tall man walked over and hugged her, Rivet's cheek was in his chest.

"I know this is hard for you.... And I'm here to support you..." he said.

Rivet looked and nodded.

"It... it just feels so weird... I-i just miss him and I don't think that feeling will ever go away in my heart."

Peter nodded, he felt bad for her. She'd loved him for eighteen years, and nothing will break that.

"Listen.... I have to go to work... are you sure you'll be okay?" Peter asked her. Rivet nodded.

He smiled and walked out to get dressed.

Rivet sighed. She was doing Pokémon FanFiction on her laptop. She decided to do a who;e new project. Since Ratchet passed, Rivet made a promise to herself to keep the work that they did together untouched.

Then her son walked into the room. "Hey, RJ what's up?" Rivet asked.

"I'm okay. Mom? Why can't you get used to Peter? He's very nice."

"I am used to him, I'm just.... I'm still trying to adjust after Ratchet's death... It's going to take me a little bit of time, Junior..."

RJ hugged her.

"It'll be okay mom... we promise. We'll get through this together."

Notes:Hello guys, so this one-shot idea comes from the Adventure Time episode; 'Dirt Beer guy' where Cherry Cream Soda (Root Beer Guy's wife) passes away while on duty protecting the Candy Kingdom, as a result, Cherry Cream Soda is having recurring nightmares about the death of her husband.

So.... I decided to dedicate this one shot in honor of that episode.
