5. Long time no see

Kaoru walked into the lab with three glasses of lemonade in hand. Sitting at the table, Miyako and Momoko were having a quiet conversation.

"Any news on the arrival?" Kaoru asked, setting the glasses down on the table top and pulling out a stool. Momoko gave hers a quick sip before nodding her head.

"Professor said an agent will be dropping them off soon," she repeated, turning her head back towards the small stack of homework before her.

"Do we get a real time or do we just have to sit on our asses, waiting for them?" Kaoru asked in annoyance. She didn't want to wait on these boys for anything, and even when they weren't there she already hated them.

"Soon was the best I got outta him," Momoko murmured, pointing over her shoulder to where the Professor was, hiding behind the steel door of his office.

"Does anyone else feel like he's hiding something from us?" Miyako asked, eyeing the thick sheet of metal. Kaoru shrugged but Momoko nodded, sympathetic with her friend's feelings.

"He's not telling us everything, but I don't think he knows everything himself," She explained, earning a confused look from Miyako.

"Next you'll be telling us that the sun's gonna explode," Kaoru said sarcastically, getting a thick glare from Momoko.

"And you'll tell us what happened with your dad. Both aren't gonna happen," Momoko returned sourly. Kaoru scowled and grabbed her lemonade, sipping it down in a quiet seethe.

"Now let's relax. I know the boys have everyone on edge, but we need to look on the bright side of things," Miyako pleaded.

"Bright side? Last time I checked, I didn't see one," Kaoru snapped, Momoko nodding in agreement. Miyako ignored this and began to explain.

"Well not only have our number one enemies turned good," Miyako started.

"Supposedly," Momoko added in. Miyako just waved her off.

"We also now have three new team members, all of who have worked in a team before."

"You call that a team?" Kaoru grimaced.

"And who will help us defeat that big scary monster everyone's talking about," Miyako finished, stubbornly eyeing anyone to go against her. Momoko and Kaoru both got quiet, unsure of the last reason.

"I still don't trust them," Kaoru said finally.

"You don't have to, but we can't shun them away because of what they did in a previous life," Miyako insisted, her blue eyes set strong. "What if it were you?"

A thick silence settled down upon the room, making all girls dodge eye contact. Only when the faint sound of conversation lifted under professors door did the girls look up. The door slid open and Professor stepped out, white lab coat blazing.

"They're here," he said. Instantly the girls locked eyes and slowly rose, ready to meet their long lost enemies.

After confronting the others in the lab Miyako had felt significantly more confident. That all melted away as they walked up the stairs, one step at a time.

"Anyone else find this extremely slow?" Kaoru mumbled under her breath, practically dragging her feet up the steps. Miyako considered saying something supportive, but the holes her friend was practically drilling into the floor kept her mouth shut and arms stuck to her side.

They finally managed to make it to the living room and while the girls sat down on the couch, Professor moved forward to open the door.

The first thing Miyako noticed when the door opened was that the boys were adorned with a smiling man and woman, both wearing colorful tropical shirts and shorts.

"Ag, hello John!" The woman exclaimed, enveloping Professor in a hug. Miyako glanced at them, however the second thing she noticed practically sucked her breath away. Boomwr was standing besides the man, choosing rather pointedly to look at the floor rather than anyone's faces. He had on a blue tiki shirt with long black shorts and his golden hair, something she remembered more poofy, had been freshly cut and was glinting off the lights.

"Boomer?" Miyako gasped without even realizing. Everyone turned to her, including the boy with the navy eyes and a blush instantly heat up her cheeks. She ducked her head but Momoko came to her rescue.

"You've all changed quite a bit," she said lamely, trying to keep the astonishment out of her tone. Brick's change was significant, his once spiky short hair now in a ponytail to his back, although he still had his red hat, and his cinnamon colored eyes now a deep shade that resembled blood. Blossom was finding it hard to breathe.

"So have you," Brick said in a gravely voice, examining his once enemy. It felt weird as he gazed at her, as if truly seeing her for the first time. He noticed that her orange hair had grown considerably, now reaching her butt, and she had ditched the bow for a headband. Her pink eyes were bright against her cream skin, and they looked into him so deeply that he could feel his soul burn. She was amazing.

"Yeah," was all she could manage, turning her head away, slightly flustered.

"It's an honor to meet you, I'm Ann" the woman said, moving towards Momoko. She shook the woman's hand, releasing it so she could greet each girl in turn.

"Take a seat," Professor offered the abandoned couch and chair. The boys took the couch with the woman while the man sat down on the edge of the chair, glancing around.

"I have to admit, when they told me I was bringing these three to the powerpuff girls, I nearly fainted," Ann said with a bright smile. Momoko laughed awkwardly while the others tried some tight smiles.

"She's not kidding," Butch said, startling Miyako with the deepness of his voice.

"It's all she talked about, for weeks," Boomer backed up shyly, still admiring the floorboards.

"Well it's a pleasure to meet you as well, Ann," Miyako said politely, earning an eye roll from Kaoru and a slight mumble from Momoko.

"Oh please, Bubbles, the pleasure is mine," Ann said excitedly. Her brown eyes were so wide that Miyako could see the link underneath.

"Actually, you can just call me Miyako," Miyako said sweetly, squinting her face into a smile to hide the grimace.

"Miyako? Is that some code name?" She asked, glancing around.

"Nope, it's my name," Miyako shrugged, earning confused glances.

"Blossom, Buttercup, and Bubbles were the codenames," Momoko explained tiredly, "my name is Momoko, this is Kaoru, and this is Miyako," Momoko pointed at each in turn.

"That's cool," Boomer said, looking up. Miyako smiled at him and he instantly ducked his head again.

"Yes, well as interesting as this all is, we should wrap it up," The man, who had still not given a name, for up, motioning to the woman. Ann sighed and got up, stopping before the boys.

"I expect good things from you three, I do NOT want To come back here to get your asses. Alright?" She stressed. All three boys straightened and nodded. "Good boys," Ann smiled, patting Butch's head before heading to the door where the man was waiting impatiently. "Bye PowerPuffs!"

"Uh, bye," Kaoru sighed. Ann waved and walked out the door. They waited, listening as the engine of their car started to life and drove off. Finally Professor cleared his throat standing up.

"Welcome boys to the team."
