Chapter 19: Analia
I don't know how I even feel now. The emotions inside me are churning. She's back. I'll get to go back home. But then, why do I still feel so... empty?
Lost in my own thoughts, I don't even notice when we reach the palace and I'm already sitting in the throne room. It's one I've never been to before.
The Prince, Prince Drake, sits on the throne, while I sit in the front row of where his subjects, the people of this kingdom, should be sitting. The room is unlike any other.
The ceiling is made of glass and if you look up, it'll feel like the snowdrop might fall on you, but it doesn't. It stops mid-air. The seats are lined up in rows in front of the throne, with a pathway in the middle. Only the Throne shines brightly, silver, the rest of the room is dark blue.
Prince Andrew is sitting next to his brother, his eyebrows creased together in worry. And Prince Drake... he sits there, rubbing his face.
I hear a loud bang of the door opening behind me, at the end of the room. My head jerks around and my mouth falls open.
She's ditto, a copy of me. The same black hair, same brown eyes, her cheeks full of colour.
I notice she isn't exactly like me.
If different, better versions of yourself existed, she's mine.
While I walk as if I couldn't care less of anything, she walks with command, her back straight, eyes straight ahead, no fear of what harm could be caused to her.
She wears a white gown with such delicate embroidery, it looks like silk.
She walks with grace until she stands in front of the Prince, a few feet away from me. My eyes stayed glued to her, it's hard to take in seeing yourself standing in front of you.
She doesn't bow, and I get why the two princes were shocked when I bowed to them.
"King- I mean, Prince of the Bad Souls kingdom. I see you're in good shape. Didn't start a war yet did you?" She says, her voice silky and soft, like a mother singing her child to sleep.
Prince Drake tilts his head sideways and smirks, but I notice the snow falling harder. He's not really happy.
"What a pleasant surprise to have you here. But that's weird, I see you're sitting down there... How are there two of you? Oh yeah, you wanted to save yourself, rather than your kingdom, from not marrying me," he says.
She smiles and doesn't even turn around to look at me.
"You are funny. I had my reasons of why I led her to you, and yes, I do not want to marry you, but I still love my kingdom, and never insult it, or this good Soul will turn bad that moment. I see though, Analia has been quite useful to you, hasn't she? Acting, helping you conquer my kingdom... You lot still use your brains and are quite smart. I thought you'd kill her, or use her to threaten my kingdom. I wonder what actually goes inside your brain."
Her words her harsh, but her voice makes them sound so innocent. She could make anyone trust her just like that, but alas, she isn't bad.
The Prince gets up from his throne and I flinch.
" You had made a deal Princess, and you broke it. You know what this means."
"I do, but you won't do it."
"And why not? We could erase your kingdom right now with my army."
"But you won't."
The Prince clenches his fist and says nothing, waiting for Princess Liferia to say more.
"I know you won't attack us. The Cynists are much stronger, and I know you still have to deal with them first," she says, her eyes on the Prince's face.
He tenses and looks at her. "Your point?"
"We'll help you. We'll help you defeat them. They are not on our side or yours, and they are causing harm to both kingdoms. They are really strong. We have to work together."
Prince Drake seems to consider it. "And what do you want in return? Of course, you wouldn't help us without an intent."
Princess Liferia smiles. "Of course. I have two conditions. One: Both of our kingdoms will stay in peace. No one will harm no one and we won't get into anyone's business Whatever happens with the humans, happens. It's inevitable. And I always stick to my word. Even if my father doesn't. After all, I'll be the next Queen."
Prince Drake nods and doesn't hesitate to say, "Deal," as if this is what he wanted all along.
"And what's the second condition?"
She finally looks at me, her eyes softening at my expression, but isn't shocked, seeing a photocopy of herself sitting right there. She looks back at the Prince.
"You won't torture Analia anymore and send her back, to her world. She's had enough trouble already because of me."
I look to Prince Drake's face waiting for his answer. He doesn't look at me.
Would he say yes, let her go to safety, her own world, or would he say no, keep her.
He waits for several seconds before answering, and when he does, my heart breaks. This is what I wanted all along right? Then why- why do I feel like this.
The air gets cold, freezing cold, but I don't shiver. I sit still. I notice Princess Liferia flinch at the sudden change in weather.
He looks away, staring at no one in particular, and the one word that twists my life again comes out.
"Yes. It's a deal."
