Chapter Seven

Sean made the drastic decision and speak with Chiron. After learning about his prophecy, Sean wanted to figure out the next step. Thanking his friend for helping him, he got up from the dock and made his way to the big house where Chiron was sitting outside in his wheelchair, talking with Grover. He made his way over and cleared his throat, causing them to tear their eyes away from the card game they were playing and to him. Chiron's tired eyes searched Sean's like he was ready to say something.

"Is something the matter, Sean?" Chiron asked.

"Is there a way I can talk to you in private?" Sean answered simply. Chiron gave a swift glance at Grover the Satyr. He sighed, but nodded and left them to their thoughts. "So I did like you asked and went to the Oracle." Sean started.

"And?" Chiron asked, as if trying to push it further. "What did you learn?"

"Someone has stolen that Ares' weapon and they need me to bring it back," Sean explained. "My father says they're pinning it on my father and his brothers." Chiron stroked his beard, there was a far off look in his eyes and Sean wondered what else went through the centaur's head. He remained quiet for sometime until he explained Sean's next steps.

"This is truly serious. What I need you to do now is that I need you to find two people to go on your quest," Chiron said. "This will ensure that you return safely and by completing this quest, you will stop another war from starting." Sean nodded and struggled to figure out who he could select to go with him. He was certain that he wanted to bring Mark since Ares was his father, but the only other individual he could think of was none other than Alex. The one Satyr that brought him and Mark here to camp.

"I have decided," Sean said. "I'll take Mark and Alex on this journey with me." Chiron smiled softly. Grover stepped inside, and Chiron immediately ordered Grover to get Mark and Alex into the big house. With that decision made, Chiron led Sean into the house and let him sit down while he went to pack some food and drink for the journey. Sean sat on the couch deep in thought, trying to decipher where the prophecy was leading them. He hadn't tangled with prophecies before, so this was brand new to him and he wanted so desperately for this to work out. Whatever was out there, he was ready for it. Or his mother hadn't left him at that school for a reason.

Mark thought little about Sean's dilemma, all he could think about was that something strange had happened. Something that even he couldn't understand. He'd been going through the armory looking at all the weapons, from bows to daggers and swords. Everything that an Ares kid would ever want, of course, that all changed when someone stepped into the armory door. Mark turned to find Grover, another Satyr with small horns on his head and a small beard on his chin.

"Grover?" Mark said. "What's going on?"

"They need you at the big house," Grover answered. "Sean has to go on a quest and he specifically asked you and Alex to go." Mark hesitated, he'd never been on a quest before and never imagined that Sean would want him to go, they had only met a few hours ago and it all looked like Sean trusted him. Not questioning it longer, Mark grabbed a weapon and left the armory before he made his way to the large, yellow house. He entered the house and saw that Sean and Alex were already there. Chiron was helping them pack some bags with food and clothes. Sean looked up from the bag and saw Mark. Pausing for a few moments, Sean nodded at Mark.

"What's this about a quest?" Mark asked.

"The Oracle gave Sean a quest. You three must retrieve Ares' weapon otherwise the gods will go to war." Chiron said, his eyes trailed, and he saw a sword in Mark's hands. "I see you've been to the armory." Mark looked at his hand, then at Chiron.

"Yeah, but I can conjure weapons into my hands," Mark responded. "I got this sword for Sean." Walking over to his friend, Mark handed it to Sean, who politely took it. "I figured you might need the weapon."

"Thanks Mark, come on, let's finish this up. We'll be leaving immediately." Mark finished helping his friends pack and together the trio walked out of the big house and made their way to the barrier that protected the camp from all the monsters that lied just outside. Mark and his friends looked at each other and nodded their head. Together, they walked through the barrier and made their way to the bus stop that was nearby. They walked over to the sign and paused, looking both ways. So far everything was alright. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary. The greyhound bus pulled up and its doors opened to a man dressed in leather clothes and wearing shades. They walked on board, but Mark swore he saw a strange, warlike look on the bus driver's face. Shaking his head, he ignored that and followed his friends into the seat. Keeping to himself and the fact that the driver bothered him, he remained quiet.

"Where to?" the driver said, breaking the silence.

"New Jersey." Sean answered. The driver nodded and started the bus. Closing the doors, he started driving down the road that headed for the highway. Behind them, Mark watched as the forest that the camp was in slowly faded into the distance until there was nothing more than grass and other plants. They were riding for what seemed like hours, but the sign for New Jersey approached, but from there, everything went wrong. The greyhound stopped, and the doors opened. Stepping onboard, Mark noticed something strange about the people who came on. They dressed like they'd been living on the streets. Clothes were torn and shredded, and they looked like they hadn't been in the shower for years. Although, for a split second, he swore that the mist that was surrounding the humans revealed three men with one eye.
