Chapter Nine

Mark stood speechless. His father was in front of him, dressed in a biker outfit. Now that he was seeing Ares in person, it made sense, especially with his hair. It was like what he had, the only difference he had his mother's eyes and his father's hair.

"Dad?" Mark said in shock.

"Hello son." Ares said. "Look at how much you've grown." Anger replaced excitement. He held onto his weapon tight like he was ready to show how angry he was toward his father. "Now don't be alarmed, I understand you aren't happy, but what other choice did I have?"

"Why are you here?" Mark said through clenched teeth. "Why now?"

"Because my most prized weapon has been stolen," Ares responded. "And it's all because of that Hades child." Mark growled. His father never should have mentioned anything about Sean. Sean was his only friend aside from Alex and no self absorbed god was going to get in his way. Mark swung his sword to strike his father. He didn't know why he felt so angry suddenly and he wanted to beat his father to a pulp since he abandoned his mother. Ares avoided his attack and sent his son flying against a tree. Mark groaned and fell to the ground, struggling to get up. "There's that anger that I knew you had. How dare you attack me, son!" Mark got to his feet and kicked his father, but inevitably Ares had won out and blocked Mark's next move.

"How can you show yourself now?" Mark exclaimed. "Where were you when I was struggling with everything around me?"

"I did it all so you could get stronger!" Ares exclaimed. "My children are to be strong and brave, easy to fight off any enemy!" He tripped Mark, forcing him to the ground yet again. "But from the looks of it, you're soft! I want you to find my sword and I want you to bring it back to me! If you don't, then consider this your warning, and Mark, you never know when I will test you." With that in mind, Mark covered his eyes just as his father disappeared.

Ethan approached a large black void, a place where he knew the enemy slept. Trapped behind rocks in the darkest part of the underworld, he made his way through the dark tunnels until he came across a large pit. It was so dark that you could not see the bottom.

"Why have you come here?" boomed a voice from the void. Ethan flinched. The sound of his master's voice was still as terrifying as when he first encountered Chaos. Most have known that Chaos was nothing more than a black void, but the minute Ethan heard his voice, he couldn't say no to the primordial god. Chaos promised that Ethan would no longer be bullied for how small he was and how out of all his brothers and sisters in the Hermes cabin, he had been the only one who could barely fight or even steal. Well, when Chaos first communicated with him, he didn't believe it at first. However, things changed when he believed that by helping Chaos rise, he'd be able to do anything that he could to do what he says. Of course, that whole thing did not include being used as a human vessel. "It is not time yet. I have not received Ares' weapon!"

"I understand, sire, but there has been a situation," Ethan said. "Ares' son and Hades child are searching for the weapon as we speak, sir."

"Don't let them find it!" Chaos yelled. "Once I am free from this dark room, I will head straight to Olympus and exact my revenge, and.." Chaos paused, causing Ethan to look surprised. A sudden feeling overcame him and he looked to his right. A shadow of a man stood like he was contemplating whether to attack or run.

Sean bolted awake, not expecting to have fallen asleep. He saw they were still in the forest and hadn't moved. Mark had gotten a mass amount of wood and Alex was in the middle of getting a fire burning. Unable to keep himself from saying anything longer, he sucked in a breath and caught his friend's attention.

"There's a problem." Sean said. Alex and Mark turned their attention to Sean before he finished his sentences. "I think I might know what we're dealing with, and it's not pretty."

"What?" Mark asked. "You look like something shook you."

"I was, I know that the weapon that has been stolen is Ares' sword," Sean explained. "But I saw this person in the dream. I couldn't really tell. I was too far away, but they were discussing something about taking down the gods." Alex narrowed his eyes.

"Did you hear a name?" Alex asked. Sean simply nodded. "Well, what was it?"

"His name is Chaos. I don't think I need to explain anymore." Sean answered.
