Chapter Seven

We neared Mirkwood and the closer we got the more nervous I felt. 'They will surly kill me if we got caught.' I thought as we slowed down at the edge of the forest. "The elven gate....Here lies our path through mirkwood." Gandalf said as we stooped at the edge of the woods. "No sign of the orcs. We have luck on our side." Dwalin commented.

"Set the poines loose. Let them return to there master." Gandalf said as he looked up at a large hill. I looked at what he was gazing at and saw Beorn, but as a large black bear. From inside the forest I heard it creak, making odd, eriee noises.

"This forest feels....sick. As if a disease lies upon it." Bilbo said as I shifted to a girl and looked into the dark woods. "Is there no way around?" I asked nervosly. "Not unless we go 200 miles north. Or twice that distance..south." Gandalf said. I groaned and took deep breaths.

Gandalf walked into the forest and Thorin walked over to me. "Are you alright?" Thorin asked, placing a hand on my shoulder making me jump. "uh..um...yea I- Im fine. Perfectly fine..." I stuttered as I fast walked to the edge of the forest.

Suddenly Gandalf walked out of the woods with a worried look on his face. "Not my horse I need it!" He shouted to Nori who was taking the saddle off his horse. "Your not leaving us are you?" Bilbo asked, nervously. "I would not do this unless I had to." Gandalf said. I turned towards the forest and prayed a silent prayer that we would go through unnoticed.

If we were caught i'm positive Thranduil and Legolas would love to keep me as prisioner. They had good reasons I suppose, but then again I had good reasons for doing what I did so long ago.

-----------------Flasback---------------

I walked silently as a lioness through greenwood. As I sniffed the ground I cought the scent of deer. Seeing as I hadn't eaten in days I followed it. What I didn't know what that I was getting closer and closer to King Thranduil's kingdom with each step I took.

After hours of tracking I spotted the deer resting along a river side. I leapt into large tree and walked silently on the branches until I was above the deer. As I was about to pounce an arrow found its way into the heart of the deer, killing it.

I growled and got low to the branch as a ellon with blonde hair and striking blue eyes stepped out and came over to the now dead deer. My anger took over, along with the fact I hadn't eaten in days so I jumped out from the tree, landing a few feet from the ellon.

He jumped back in alarm and raised his bow to me. I snarled at him and got low to the ground, ready to pounce. Before I could he let the arrow fly, hitting me in the shoulder. I yelped in pain and then turned to the ellon and pounced on him, pinning him to the ground with my paws.

I growled in his face and bit his left arm. He let out a scream which was heard by the Mirkwood guards. Twenty guards, along with the King, came out to see the prince pinned down by me with his left arm gushing out blood.

Immediatly, I regreted doing what I did but there was no turning back now. They all surrounded me and aimed there bows at me. I growled and slowly backed away from the prince allowing a few guards to drag him away to be healed.

Once he was gone the guards threw roped over me and forced me to where I was laying on the ground. Thranduil came and stood before me, peering into my eyes, from the moment he looked at me I knew from the look in his eyes he knew I was no normal lion. "Your not a normal lion. Why don't you show me who you really are?" He said as he glared at me. 'No point in hiding it now.' I thought to myself.

I huffed and shifted to a girl to find all the guards looking at me in shock. After that they kept me a prisoner for months before I managed to slip away. For those months I was there I was tortured by burning, whips, and anything else they had. They left scars that would last a life time.

When they were taking me to see the king once again I saw a river flowing beanth the kingdom. Once they put me back in the cell I shifted to a baby lion and, with much difficulty and pain, squeezed between the bars and sprinted to the wine celler, keeping to the shadows. Once there I got into one on the barrels as an elf guard came and sent them down the river. Once I saw out of sight from the mirkwood kingdom I jumped out of the barrel and onto the river side.

To this day I have never been near the mirkwood kingdom, and here I am now about to pass through it's forest.

-----------Flashback over----------

I snapped out of my flashback as Gandalf mounted his house. "No matter what come stay on the path!" He shouted before galloping off in the opposite direction of the forest. I gulped before turning and following into the forest behind Thorin. As we walked through it I heard the forest creaking and cracking, making odd sounds.

I groaned and held my head as we walked deeper and deeper into the forest. 'It's definatly different from when I was here last.' I thought to myself, remembering Mirkwood when it was still Greenwood the Great. "My head...it's spinning what's happening?" Oin asked as he spun around holding his head.

I shook my head and tried my best to clear my mind but to no use. "My head...it's spinning." I heard Dori say from the front of the group. I fet my head spinning and turned to Dwalin behind me only to see....me? "What in mahals name is going on?" I said as I rolled my neck, cracking it slightly.

I heard Thorin grumbling in front of me. "Air. I need air." I heard Bofur say behind me. Then all of a sudden we stopped. "Nori why have we stopped?" Thorin asked as he walked up to him. "The path. It's dissapeared." Nori said as he pointed at the ground where the path was supposed to be.

"What's going on?" Dwalin asked. 'We've lost the path." Oin shouted back, his voice seeming to echo around us. 'Find it! All of you look! Look for the path!!" Thorin said. As everyone looked for the path I sat on a small tree limb and thumped a web making it shiver through the webs. Again I thumped it but stopped hearing all the dwarfs chattering.

I saw Thorin trying to get everyone calm, but failing. I shifted and roared, silencing them all as it echos throughout the forest, then nodded my head to Thorin who was looking out into the dark woods. "Were being watched." He whispered lowly. As he did I looked over behind Thorin to see a huge, eight eyed, eight legged spider. Then it all went black.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

"Oof" I grunted as I hit the forest floor. 'What happened?' I thought as I clawed my way out of some sticky kind of web...wait web? Oh yea...spiders. I lifted my head to see the rest of the company in the same sticky situation. ((see what I did there heh...no?....ok......)) I jumped over the dwarfs and bit into a spider that was crawling our way.

Thorin shouted a battle cry as all the dwarfs charged the oncomeing spiders. I bit the head off and and turned, jumping over the dead body of a spider and bit another one. I heard grunted behind me and turned to see Bombur being pinned down by another spider.

I jumped over and bit the head as all the dwarfs pulled off its legs. We huddled into a circle and I was about to charge another spider when a gleam of Blonde in the trees cought my eyes. 'No no no nonononono' I thought as I backed up to the middle of the group. As I did I saw Legolas kill the spider by swinging down its web before landing in front of Thorin, notching an arrow and pointing it in his face.

As he did I hear Kili shout out. "Kili!" Fili shouted to his brother. After a moment Kili came back over with a red haired elf. "Search them!" Legolas shouted. He then cought sight of me and smirked before walking over to me. "I see you have returned here. Must be brave to venture here." He said. "Tie her. She is to be seen by the King immediatly!" Legolas shouted.

As he did several elfs grabbed ropes and tied them to my leg and around my neck, tight. Thorin looked at me with a worried glance as I was lead away from the company and towards the once place I never wished to see again.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"I see you have returned to us hmm?" Thranduil said to me as he sat atop his throne looking down at me. I growled low in my throat and turned my head away from him. 'Why don't you shift back. Then we can get down to business." He said, walking down from where he sat. I knew there was no point in refusing, seeing as they would torture me until I did so I shifted and stood to face him.

"There. Much bettter. I see you have dared to show your face here once more after what you did to my son. Now I will deal with that later but why, might I ask, are you travelling with a bunch of...dwarfs." He sneered, leaning down in my face. "That is none of your concern." I said before spitting on the floor infront of him.

"Guards, bring in Oakensheild. As for her," He said pointing at me, "Take her to the dungons where the dwarfs are." He said with a wave of his hand. The guards came and forcefully grabbed my arms leading me to the dungons. As we walked along the narrow paths of Mirkwood we passed the guards walking Thorin to the king.

'Are you alright?' He mouthed as we passed. I nodded and gave him a small smile. "Get in." A guard said as he shoved my in a empty cell by the rest of the company. "What did he want?" Fili asked as the guards left. "Information. Of which I did not give." I said as I slid down in the cell. "Say lass, couldn't you slip through the bars if yeh...ya know...shifted?" Bofur.

"The bars are to close together. I could try but i'm sure the king learned from his mistake last time." I said, muttering the last part. I heard everyone sigh and sit back down. After several minutes the guards appered with Thorin who was thrown into the cell I was in. "Did he offer you a deal?" Balin asked. "Aye...I told him he could go....." Thorin then said something in dwarfish and I don't think it was very nice.

"Well thats that then. A deal was our only hope." Balin said sadly. "Not our only hope." Thorin whispered. "Bilbo.." I said quietly as I relized he was no where in the cells with any of us. Thorin nodded and sat down with his back against the wall. "You didn't want to come here..why?" Thorin asked. I sighed and began to tell him why. Once I was done I saw swore I saw a small grin on his face. He grunted and shifted a little.

"I'll wager the sun is on the rise." I said as I looked between the bars of the cell, evaluating if it was worth the attempt to squeeze through them. "Must be nearly dawn." Bofur called from another cell. "Were never gonna reach the mountain are we?" Ori remarked sadly.

"Not stuck in here your not." A voice exclaimed. I looked up to see none other than Bilbo Baggins holding the keys to our cells. "Bilbo!" Balin exclaimed. At that all the other dwarfs began calling out. "Quiet there are guards near by!" Bilbo whisper shouted and they all hushed up.

I hugged him tightly as he unlocked my cell. "This way. You first Ori." Dwalin said as they began up some stairs. "Wait! Follow me down here!" I whisper shouted. They nodded and followed me as I ran down the path to the wine celler where I had escaped many years before.

"Ok everyone into the barrels!" I said as we filed into the celler with the sleeping elfs, they must had had a little to much to drink. "Are you mad?! They'll find us!" Dwalin said. "No they won't. Please, Please you have to trust me!" I said with a pleading look at Thorin. "Do as she says." He said.

They nodded and got inside the barrels, as they did Bofur stuck his head out. "What now?" He asked. "Hold your breath." I said before moving to the lever. "Hold my breath what do yeh mea- Ahh!" He exclaimed as I pulled the lever, sending the barrels, and the dwarfs, and a hobbit down into the river below.

I smiled at my work until I relized I was still up here. I shifted to an adult and stood on the edge, making it tip over. I left out a small grunt as I made inpact with the cold, icy water. "Nice work Alix!" Thorin said with a smile as I paddled my way next to him. I shifted to a teen size lion and jumped into a empty barrel, placing my paws on the rim of it as we plunged under the water, down a waterfall, and rushed towards the gate.

As I glanced up I saw Legolas say something to a ellon who blew a horn, alerting the guards at the gate we where heading to, making them close the gate. "No!!!!" Thorin shouted as we piled up under the small bridge of the now closed gates. The guards held up there sheilds and readied there swords then, out of no where one of them is shot in the back.

An orc appered behind him, followed by many others. I roared and shifted to my largest form. As I jumped out of the barrel I saw Kili jump out of his fighting orcs. I jumped and bit off the head of one as he ran up to the steps to the lever that opened the gate.

As he reached it an arrow shot into his thigh. I roared in anger as he winced in pain and fell onto his back holding his leg. I pounced on an orc next to him as elfs came out and began to fight the orcs. Kili reached up and grabbed the lever, pulling it, sending the dwarfs down the stream.

"Kili!" Fili shouted as his brother dropped into a barrel, snapping the arrow in half as they plummeted down the river. I ran along side the elfs as we raced down the river fighting orcs. As I looked over I saw Legolas jumping along the dwarfs heads as if they were stepping stones. As he fought an orc one came up behind him. I raced up and bit off its head before sprinting down the river side, shifting med air to a teen size wolf and landing in a empty barrel.

"Make for the shore!" Thorin shouted as we neared a lake. Once we were out I shifted to a girl and went of to Kili. "Let me see it." I said to him. Hesitantly, he lifted the cloth to show the arrow head still in his leg. I looked around and grabbed a stick. "Bite this. I have to get the arrow head out. On three." I said as he put the stick between his teeth and bit down. "One two.." I riped the head out making Kili bite down on the stick and let out a grunt of pain.

"There we go." I said as I threw the arrow head to the side. "We keep moving." Thorin said. "Kili's leg needs binding." I said as I began wrapping his leg with some cloth. "You have two minutes." He said. I looked up af ter binding to see a man holding a bow in his hands. He aimed it at Ori and Dwalin picked up a large stick and held it up.

The man shot the arrow into the stick then he turned and hit a rock out of Kili's hand.

"Do it again, and your dead."
