Chapter 17: Now You're a Superhero
I lose track of time and track of Steve, so I decide to go looking for him. After a difficult search, I find him outside, looking over the dam, down at the water below. I have a feeling I know want he's thinking about, what's been bugging him since the bridge. His friend Bucky. I can see it eating at him.
"You're going to see him there you know?" I say maybe 20ft away from his side.
He quickly turns his head in my direction and sighs, "I know"
"He's not the same guy he was when you knew him Steve, he's different" I say, wanting to reason with him and get that fact drilled into his head.
"He's still Buck" Steve responds, sounding distant, not really listening to what I'm saying.
I roll my eyes, frustrated with him not really listening to me. I storm up to him and turn him, making him face me. I stare into those bright blue eyes as I speak again, "He doesn't know you Steve. He doesn't remember. You'll have to stop him, you can't save someone like that. Bucky just has to be stopped."
"I don't think I can do that" he says looking down at me, his eyes filled with sadness.
I sigh and touch his arm lightly and look away from him as I nearly whisper, "He might not give you a choice"
I look back up at Steve to see his face on the verge of tears, but instead of talking like a woman would do, he acts like a man and puts on his macho face and walks away. Before he does he looks back, "It's time, now you're a superhero. Go find something to wear other than a tank top and leggings" he chuckles, walking further away.
I start walking after him as I shout back, "Why? You're just wearing that." I laugh slightly, mimicking his tone.
"We're fighting a war, I've got to get into uniform" Steve responds and runs off.
I stop, standing there in the middle of a bridge over a dam after talking with Steve Rogers and I realize something. I'm a superhero. A real life, crime fighting, work saving, butt kicking superhero. I've always wanted to make a difference, make my mark, be known, know my place in the world. That's why I became a hacker, I thought hactivism was my calling. But with my powers, I should have assumed that being a hero was who I really was supposed to be. I guess it just took another superhero saying it to get it through my head. Now I'm going to save the world, I really do need a super suit. Time to talk to Maria.
------
After a slight wardrobe change, and Steve stealing, sorry borrowing his suit from the Smithsonian we finally trekked through the forest, to the river's edge. Across the way we could clearly spot the Triskelion, in all its Shield base glory.
"Well here goes nothing" I say as we walk away from the view and begin are advance on the Triskelion.
Before I get into our plan details, I have to talk about my super cool outfit. Maria really does know how to pick them. My blonde hair is in a tight Dutch braid, I'm wearing light grey lace up combat boots, navy blue athletic pants, a matching navy long sleeve crop and a gold belt along with golden coloured fingerless gloves. Sam also had a hand in my costume, seeing as he wanted it to fit with his nickname for me 'Goldenrod'. I guess that's my official superhero name. Hey I think it's much better than Goldie!
Goldenrod the superhero that's who I'm meant to be.
Now you guys get the series title! Dahlia is now an official superhero (in my mind anyways). How do you like Dahlia? What don't you like? Let me know!
