JANUS

The god of doors, gates, beginnings, and endings. The gates of the city of Camden are dedicated to him, as are all bridges, ports and docks of the kingdom. He is closely allied with Vesta, the goddess of the threshold, and like her, Janus is present in all temples and at all prayers.  The month of January is named after him, the early morning is his special time each day, and his feast day is the 1st of January.

FLORA

The goddess of flowers, youth, fertility and the beginning of summer. The Temple of Flora can be found in the district of Market Garden, an area frequented by the poor and working people. Flora's festival is held on the 1st of May, and her high feast day is the 20th of June.

AURORA

The goddess of the dawn, ripening grain, mature women, childbirth, the sea, and ports and harbours. Her temple is in Rivergate, by the harbour and close to the fish market. Her festival is on the 11th of June, and is only for unmarried women.

TERRA

Known as Mother Earth, she is the goddess of the earth itself and closely allied with Ceres. She blesses weddings, and is present at the birth of every child. Her temple is in the fashionable village of Lyme on the outskirts of Camden, and her festival is the 13th of December.

CYBELE

Known as The Great Mother, Cybele is a goddess of Near Eastern origin who became known to us through African contact. Her other title is Lady of Beasts, and she is depicted driving a chariot pulled by lions. Her worship is one of wild, musical, wine-drinking abandon, and her priests are of the third sex.

The Temple of Cybele is on Forum Street in Camden. Servants are not permitted to join her temple, and in fact only the very wealthiest can afford to, as the annual donation is five hundred gold coins. As a result, her devotees are few in number. Cybele is the patron goddess of Madrid, so people of Castilian descent are most likely to follow her. Her festival is the 10th of April, and her high feast day is the 25th of March.

ISIS

An Egyptian mother goddess of the heavens and magic who is said to be the patron of the River Tayo. She has few devotees in Lindensea, with most of them being of Egyptian or Castilian origin. The only temple in her name in the kingdom is on Royal Street in the town of Sudforth, over the bridge from Camden.  Her festival is on the 12th of August, and her high feast day is the 5th of March.

FREA

A Saxon god who was never able to be merged into the Roman pantheon of gods, but is nonetheless widely worshipped in Lindensea. Frea is the twin brother of Frigg, the goddess of love, and he is the god of peace and pleasure.

His shrine in Camden is on Candlelight Street, and it is of modest proportions, but considered very charming by citizens and visitors alike. His statue possesses a member of quite prodigious size, and at every marriage ceremony a libation is made in his honour.  He is said to be an ancestor of the Swedish royal family.

Apart from prayers for a happy wedding night, the main reason that people come to Frea's temple is in order to pray for good weather - both pleasant sunshine and the rain that brings the earth to life. It said in jest that the rather uncertain weather of Lindensea is caused by the god answering these competing invocations! His festival is the 15th of July.
