Initiation: Initiation to the god Neptune is open to everyone - men, women, adults, children, nobles, commoners, citizens and foreigners alike. Details of the ritual are a secret, but it takes place during the summer, and the public part involves the confessing of sins and ritual purification in a river, lake, or the sea. It is said that after being initiated into the mysteries of Neptune, it is impossible to die by drowning. A popular theory is that the initiation process involves a course of swimming lessons. I cannot confirm this, but all initiates of Neptune are able to swim, and know how to rescue others from water.

Merged with: Noghtan, the Tirathic god of freshwater springs and wells

The god Neptune is worshipped in those areas near freshwater or the sea, and you may find many of his temples in towns along the coast, and on islands. He is a great favourite in fishing communities on lakes and rivers.

Neptune is the patron of the Royal Navy of Lindensea, and his major temple is in the town of Port Brine, home of the Royal Naval Academy and the navy's shipyards. It is a handsome basilica on the grounds of the academy itself. All members of the navy must become initiates in the Temple of Neptune, and are often called "sons of Neptune".

In the city of Camden, the Temple of Neptune is located on Queen Eleanor Road, next to the Hippodrome, which is used for horse racing and circuses. Neptune is the patron of the horse racing industry, and all equestrian games and entertainments. His festival in August features a horse race where the steeds are gaily decorated, and the midwinter holiday always includes a circus at the Hippodrome.

When the Romans came to these Isles, the worship of Neptune gradually merged with the Tirathic god Noghtan, who presides over springs and wells.
