As the wife of Jupiter and Queen of Heaven, Juno is one of the most powerful gods of Lindensea. Her temple by the River Tayo in the historic district of Evenstar is richly appointed, and has an unusual design, being entirely circular. Its origins are obscure, but it is believed to have been originally built by the Romans and rebuilt in the year 509 of the Saxon Era. According to legend, a young girl of the city saw a vision of Juno here, which led to the temple's construction as divinely inspired.
Every queen of Lindensea by birth or marriage is the leading member of the Temple of Juno, and more than forty coronations of queens have taken place here. It is a prestigious place to marry, and the temple has seen sixteen royal weddings, not to mention countless society weddings. Eighteen queens of Lindensea are buried in the catacombs beneath the temple - a sobering thought as one crosses its floors.
All women are permitted to become members of the temple, although full initiation is only taken up by a few. Wives of the wealthy and powerful will attend every New Moon worship as a duty, and Juno is especially popular with those of Moorish heritage. This is because the goddess became merged with the African goddess Tanith during the days of the Roman Empire. Juno's temple in Carthage remains a holy site for pilgrims to this day.
The women of the city are expected to keep the high feast days and attend the festival each year, and there must be many girls and women who have prayed for a happy marriage here. The Queen of Heaven's own month of June is favoured for weddings, with many brides choosing the conventional emerald engagement ring, peacock blue wedding gown and veil, and bouquet of pink roses.
