Meeting The Don

~Tony POV~

I saw a wedding at this place where it seemed crowded, there was a ton of music and dancing going on, it looked bellissimo.

I was feeling really hungry for the most part, because I only had bread for breakfast and I didn't have lunch yet. In order for me to get in unnoticed, I waited for the guards to go.

After a while, I went in and I saw some food that looked so delicious. I couldn't even tell that my mouth was watering because I was getting so hungry. I walked up, and before I could get some of the lasagne, I felt a hand on my arm.

I looked up to see this huge round man that looked so angry that I gulped with fear.

Man: Are you one of the guests invited to this wedding?

I had to answer before he did it to his pants.

Tony: No. I'm not.

Man: Come with me.

He pulled me over to this door and looked around. This wedding looked beautiful! I was really amazed by how beautiful it was: the decorations looked so fancy and that I wish that my older sister was still alive so I could see her married.

Much later, this other man gestured me into the office and I saw the man everyone fears: Don Vito Corleone. His face almost looks like a bulldog, his features looked all raggedy, and he had a look of disappointment on his face.

Corleone: Come, sit down.

I was hesitant about sitting in front of the Don, but I had to do what he asked, so I sat down and looked at him straight in the eye.

Corleone: What do they call you, son?

Tony: Tony Columbo, sir.

Corleone: Clemenza has, uh, told me about you stealing some food from my daughter's wedding day. Explain your reason, young man.

I was silent as Clemenza looked to whack me, but Corleone gestured him to stay back because I was scared of talking to Don Corleone.

It was my first time meeting him and I was shaking like a leaf.

Corleone: You don't have to be scared. Take your time, don't feel afraid.

Tony: I'm starving, Godfather. I haven't had a home for 6 years. My parents are dead, my sister's dead, my brother's in jail. I have no one to take care of me, and I just want something to eat. Godfather, please don't kill me. I apologize for stealing food. If you want, I'll leave. You'll never hear from me again. I'm sorry.

I was bowing my head in shame because I was afraid for the worst: they were going to kill me.

I didn't mean to steal food. I know that it was the Don's daughter's special day, but I just wanted something to eat.

Corleone: Pick your head up.

I looked up at him as he seemed sympathetic about it all, which I didn't expect from Don Corleone.

Corleone: Is it true, your parents and sister are dead while your brother is in jail?

Tony: Yes, Godfather.

Corleone: No one took care of you? Any aunts, uncles, or grandparents?

Tony: They wanted nothing to do with me after my parents died.

Corleone: Clemenza.

Clemenza: Yeah?

Corleone: Let him eat. He's not an official guest to my daughter's wedding, but let's show him some hospitality.

Clemenza: Yes Godfather.

I stood up and looked to leave the office, but he called out to me.

Corleone: Son.

I looked over to him as I had to know what else he wanted.

Corleone: How old are you?

Tony: I'm 16.

Corleone: Soon after the wedding, you're gonna work for me, but for now, get something to eat, relax, and enjoy yourself. If you have any concerns, don't hesitate to come to me.

Tony: Grazie, Padrino. (Thank you, Godfather.)

Corleone: Prego. (You're welcome.)

Clemenza gave me back my plate as I had to look at him before I went to grab some food.

Clemenza: Some of these guys don't know you as you don't know them, so watch out for yourself, you hear?

Tony: Yeah, sure.

I went over to the buffet, grabbed some food, a glass of water, and I sat down to eat.

I had a bite of the lasagne and it was so delizioso! I wish I could eat more, but there are people that are hungry too.

While I ate, I heard some screaming coming from across the party. I looked over, and there was JOHNNY FONTANE?! I thought he was in Hollywood filming some movies!

When I saw the bride hugging him, that actually surprised me! I didn't know they were friends or something!

Then, I heard a voice from behind and I didn't know who it was.

?????: He's dreamy isn't he?

I looked back to find this girl in a blue dress. I thought she looked beautiful.

Tony: Yeah I bet.

Girl: I haven't seen you here before. Who are you?

Tony: Name's Tony. Tony Columbo.

Girl: I'm Rosana Bertelli. Pleased to meet you, Tony.

Tony: Likewise.

She sat next to me as we started talking until we started listening to Johnny's singing, which is just incredible like always!

Johnny: I have but one heart, this heart I bring you
I have but one heart to share with you
I have but one dream that I can cling to
You are the one dream I pray comes true...

Rosana: Where are you from, Tony?

Tony: I'm originally from Brooklyn, but I was homeless most of the time, due to the fact that half my family's dead and my brother's in jail.

Rosana: That's terrible.

Tony: Not as terrible as surviving on my own for the past 6 years.

Rosana: Six years?! No wonder you look so skinny!

Tony: Right, but it doesn't matter now, I have a new home with the Corleone Family. The Don's gonna give me a living rather than let me stay out in the streets.

Once the song was over, we all went back to celebrating the bride and groom, but Rosana's parents were coming.

Mother: Rosana, we're about to leave.

Father: Who's this?

Rosana: Mom, this is Tony Columbo. A new friend I made here.

Mother: Oh, nice to meet you, young man.

Father: Hope you're not doing anything to her.

Rosana: Dad!

Tony: I wouldn't dream of it, sir. Your daughter is so nice to me I had to be nice to her.

Father: I'll take your word for it, but you better be a good man. We'll see each other again.

Tony: Yes sir.

We shook hands as they walked away, but Rosana smiled and winked at me as I had to smile back.

Sure, the party is beautiful, but Rosana?

Tony: Marrone.
