I grabbed my sword that lay nearby and Malachy looked at me waking up slightly from her nap. I smiled at her, "We'll be back, we're just going to deal with a problem that should have never happened in the first place," I told her.
Malachy let out a whimper then placed her heads back down to go to sleep. "Okay let's go," I told my familiars. We went outside and through the portal that linked my home to the eastern settlements. After the world reset, the countries were merge into the original one of Pangaea.
The humans that I had placed into the world made settlements, and small towns that they lived in. I frequently interacted with them to make sure they stayed safe from things like supernatural creatures, or strong natural disasters.
I bit my lip as we appeared in front of the mine. The smell of gunpowder, smoke and dirt entered my nose, I looked at the front of the mine. The boulders which I had put there months ago were now nothing but rubble, and the humans were nowhere in sight.
"Remember to be careful, Wendigos are smart creatures rabid or not and it will try to imitate or voices," I warned them. Then I walked into the mine with Allen behind me.
"Why'd you bring me with you? I thought you usually did missions with, Luka or, Eren," he asked as we walked through the barely lit mine.
"I do but right now we're fighting a Wendigo and you have mastered control over fire better than, Luka and, Eren. This turned from a quick check in, to a rescue mission. I hope those humans are still alive," I told Allen.
He smiled, "Well I don't smell blood so, that's a good sign," Allen told me.
A moment later we heard a loud shout for help. Both me and Allen froze, tense and our hands went to our swords.
"Do you think that's the Wendigo?" He asked me.
I frowned biting my lip, "I don't know, the pitch sounds perfectly human and that's the problem," I mumbled as I stared into the darkness ahead of us.
Allen sighed then changed forms quickly changing into a dog. He cocked his head to the side listening closely as the call for help came again. Then he looked at me, "Yeah it's a human. The infrasound isn't messed up," he told me as he changed back.
I let out a sigh of relief as we confirmed the existence of a survivor. Only animals could tell the difference between a human's voice and a Wendigo's trick version of it. And they did that by listening to the soundwaves, if the infrasound frequency was fine then it was human however if it sounded high pitched or static then it was a Wendigo.
As Allen and I descended further into the mine we soon came to a fork in the road. Allen let out a sigh, "You go left Mistress, I'll go right," He suggested.
I smiled but nodded, "Okay, make sure you be careful and listen closely,"!I said. Allen gave me a hug.
"You be careful to," he told me softly, then he turned and walked down the right path. I faced my own path and held up my hand drawing energy from the nature around me. After a moment a bright, hot, red orb appeared in my hand.
Not fire but it will work just like it. I thought as I walked. Eventually I came to a oddly shaped cavern. It was shaped like a circle but at the same time more dome shaped, I held the orb in my hand up to light the cavern. I saw them when I did, the surviving humans were chained to the walls beside some less fortunate victims of the Wendigo.
I ran over to them and began to burn through their bindings. "Don't worry I'm going to rescue you," I told them. Hope filled their faces as I spoke and they began crying. Once I had cut the humans down I unsheathe my sword.
A second later I heard an odd thump and then Allen came crashing through a nearby cavern wall. He hit the ground landing a couple of feet away from me groaning and cursing. "Dammit, you little sneak attacking bitch. You think you're smart huh. Come at me head on then," he slowly got to his feet his minor scrapes and bruises healing within seconds.
I glanced at the humans. "Run now! Go!" I told them. They instantly took off down the pathway I had came.
A moment later the Wendigo appeared stepping through the hole in the wall. It was and emaciated creature with gray sickly looking skin. It's hair was long, matted and white sprouting from various places such as it's head, shoulders, elbows, and back. The Wendigo had long thing odd limbs that resembled a human and at the same time didn't.
A pair of small hands attached to small arms grew from underneath it's armpits while it's second pair of hands dragged on the floor due to their large size. The said could be about it's feet, the Wendigo walked upright like a human but it's legs and feet were designed like a dog's.
The Wendigo twitched and focused it's crazed bright orange irises on me and Allen. Beside me Allen chuckled. "Can you believe this thing use to be human?" He mumbled.
I smiled slightly, "I can't believe it use to be sane," I said. The Wendigo let out a hiss and it's left eye twitch.
"Food...you release food!" It roared.
I readied my sword as it charged me its smaller hands swiping. I blocked with my sword then dodged as one of its large fist tried to hit me. Allen threw a fireball at its back and the creature let out a human scream then and animalistic roar.
The Wendigo leaped into the air and clung to the cave ceiling line a spider then it burrowed. I quickly shed my human skin and followed after the Wendigo, its burrowing would lead it right into a settlement.
Once outside I gave chase after the creature following the trail of destroyed trees and smashed rocks. I found the Wendigo almost nearing the settlement, it was letting out a mix of human, deer and monkey like sounds as it leaped through the trees.
I tackled the creature unleashing some of my aura as I did so. We hit the ground hard tumbling more than a few feet. I kept punching the Wendigo, making sure to use my aura when I did. The creature head butted me and I saw stars for a moment.
It let out a growl and bit into my right arm and I let out a cry of pain as it tore a chunk of flesh from it. I lost my grip and the Wendigo ran off once again heading toward the settlement in search of more human meat.
I quickly got to my feet panting then I let out a sigh before I released all the locks on my aura. Instantly the nature around me changed due to the drastic change in my energy. Flowers sprang up out of the ground instantly, some grass wilted, leaves on the tree changed color even the temperature fluctuate.
I flew as fast as I could and this time I tackled the Wendigo as it stood on a barn on the edge of a settlement, we rolled and hit the ground and fell into the mud. I began beating it maliciously.
"Aria!" I looked up to see Luka standing on a hill about to throw something in his hand. Eren and Allen stood beside him. A moment later Luka threw it with perfect accuracy. The object landed beside me and the fighting Wendigo.
That object was about five active grenades strapped strung together. I took one glance at it then ran. But not far enough because a minute later I heard a massive boom and ringing in my ears, then I was showered in mud and Wendigo innards.
I shook myself trying to get at least some of the blood and guts off me.As my familiars came closer I heard Luka and Allen talking, well it was more of almost arguing.
"Okay you, have got to stop it with the explosives," Allen told Luka.
"It worked didn't it, the thing is dead," Luka said shrugging.
Eren looked at me, "Aria are you okay?" He asked me.
"No, I need a bath," I told him, then shuddered as I shook more blood off of myself.
"You almost killed me with a grenade one time!" Allen exclaimed.
Luka just blinked at him slowly for a moment before he spoke, "Good," He said to Allen.
