Chapter 10 (III)
Trick looked up from her newspaper. "Here they are," she said.
The Jade Winglet entered the cavern. "You!" Dashie cried, before flinging herself at Trick. Trick easily evaded the attack, doing a quick side step. She smiled.
"You won't best me. And even if you could, you won't best him," she nodded towards Fish, who was slumped lazily in the corner.
"And why is that?" Thor asked.
"I enchant the SeaWing Fish to be Sugar, with all her abilities, memories, intentions, and powers!"
Ace turned to Trick. "But I thought animus magic didn't work here!"
Trick sighed. "My name is TRICK. Are you an idiot?"
Ace hung his head. "I-"
"No existential crisis' please," Des said, "Now you know you can use your abilities, so use them!"
"R- right," Ace said, " I enchant Sugar and Trick to no longer be animus."
"Good. Now get us the flip out of here!" Thor shouted.
"But I thought this wasn't PG anymore?" Thor's glare told him to shut up and cast an enchantment to send them back to Jade Mountain, and he did so.
"Thanks Ace," Dashie said, even though Ace had relied solely on his powers, and none of the spells had even been his own idea!
Depressed by this thought, Ace sagged. "You're welcome..." he dragged his tail behind him and headed down the Jade Mountain hallways to his winglet's cave.
Des entered the room after him. "Ace... Ace what did they tell you to make you sad like this?"
Ace put his head in his talons and sobbed. "They're right though! I never did one thing for you all- I only used my magic... And all the ideas were always yours, or Dashie's or Thor's or-" Ace was cut off by a sob and Des curled up next to him.
"That's not true! You are a smart, intelligent, and good friend! You help us so much Ace, and you have a pure heart." Des felt something tug at him, but he let it go. His brother was the protagonist after all, not him.
...But was Ace right? All he had done was cast the spells. He'd done nothing else.
Des shook his head. 'Don't think like that,' he chided himself.
"Th- thank you," Ace said with a smile. He stood up and walked away to go join the rest of his winglet, and Des followed him.
Des brightened at his brother's smile. He KNEW that Ace was the PROTAGONIST and deserved SUPPORT from his FRIENDS.
Des took a deep breath. "Okay author, I get it, the book isn't about me, it's about Ace."
Right you are Des.
"But, can't you give me or someone else a novella or something?"
ABSOLUTELY NOT.
Des sighed. "Fine."
Ace raised an eyebrow. "What?"
"Nothing," Des said with a shake of his head.
"Hey, I want to thank you for helping me out back there."
"Not a worry, after all, you can only save the world with the power of- HEY WAIT A MINUTE. WHY THE FLIP IS THAT PART OF THE SCRIPT?"
Is there a problem?
"I am NOT using the 'Power of Friendship cliché thank you very much."
But- ahg- PRINCE ROSE HANDSOME YOU'RE RUINING THE MOMENT.
"My middle name isn't 'Rose' it's-"
YEAH WELL ROSE SOUNDED INTIMIDATING- wait, you have a middle name?
"Yes, yes I do. It's Edge Lord."
So, your full name is Prince Handsome 'Darkness' Edge Lord?
"Well, technically it's Prince Handsome 'Darkness' Edge Lord GlitterPerfect of the GlitterPerfectWings, but yes."
The author sighed before returning to the story.
Ace sat with the Jade Winglet(minus Des) in the food cave. They all enjoyed talking about their adventures fighting Antag, Trick, Fish, and Sugar.
"What do you think will be thrown at us next?" Dashie asked excitedly.
"Hopefully nothing," Thor groaned.
"I don't know, but whatever it is, I'm sure we'll conquer it!" Ace said with a laugh.
But how wrong he was. Because right then, at that moment, their next enemy was plotting their doom, and she was closer than they could ever imagine.
