Chapter 1
WEEEEELCOME TO MY NEW BOOK
TW: Death, implications of suicide.
I'll update this every Thursday and Sunday and don't judge the terrible cover I had to make something in like two minutes
"Bye, Dan." Dan's aunt said, waving goodbye to her nephew. Dan just nodded, looking down and allowing his long fringe to drop down in front of his eyes. He then stepped inside the train which was fairly empty.
Finding a seat wasn't a hard thing, considering there was only one other boy in the train carriage. Dan slumped down in a window seat and leant his head against the window.
-
The train arrived at its destination a couple of hours later and Dan stumbled off of the train. He hadn't opened his mouth once since he got on the train but no one had bothered to talk to him either.
The school seemed much bigger than it had looked in the photo. On the brochure, it had looked friendly and welcoming, whereas, in real life, it looked more than intimidating. Dan, along with some other boys, wandered up to the entrance to be greeted by a teacher.
"Daniel Howell, come with me." The teacher spoke in a strangely menacing voice. His tone actually made Dan shiver. The other boys just watched in silence as Dan followed the scary teacher with his head down. "I'm Mr Quinn and I am here to tell you that we have been told about your situation." Dan nodded, shoving his hands into his jeans' pockets. The teacher sympathetically smiled and raised his eyebrows, revealing lines of wrinkles on his forehead. With wrinkles, he looked even more terrifying. "If you need any support, the teachers are always available to talk."
"Alright." Dan mumbled with a tiny frown.
"I'll walk you to your dorm. You'll be sharing with PJ Liguori. He's a lovely boy, I think you'll get along well. You'll be in most of his classes too." Dan solemnly followed the teacher as he walked down the corridor.
Spread out on the walls were pictures of students smiling brightly. Some were holding up certificates for awards and others were just school photos. The school had a brilliant representation for succeeding students so, hopefully, Dan wouldn't feel too out of place. He expected everyone to be snobby and smart and he was neither of those things.
-
"Hello, PJ, this is your new roommate, Dan." Mr Quinn said to a tall, curly haired boy. Dan realised that PJ didn't seem at all snobby and he was wearing a Zelda shirt, meaning he must be into video games... Maybe the people weren't going to be that bad.
"Hey." PJ grinned, showing off his white teeth. His eyes lit up with kindness and Dan couldn't help but smile back: PJ just gave off positive vibes.
"PJ will help you settle in." Dan nodded again as Mr Quinn left the two to 'bond'.
"So, why are you joining so late in the year?" PJ immediately asked, earning a shrug on Dan's behalf. "Okay.. do you have any questions?"
"Are the other boys nice?" Dan blurted out before going bright red. He didn't want to come across as weird and the question was kind of... weird. PJ just laughed in response.
"Yeah, most of them are.. What do you like?" Dan raised an eyebrow. "As in interest-wise?"
"I like video games.. and anime."
"I think you'll fit straight in with my friendship group then."
-
"This is Phil," Phil waved at Dan with a kind smile on his face. "And this is Chris." Chris didn't even respond, he just began to stuff his face with food. "And guys, this is Dan." Dan went bright red but waved at the other two anyway.
"He's adorable." Chris chuckled once he had stopped stuffing his face with the food.
"Hey!" PJ gasped, lightly punching Chris on the shoulder. "You're mine." Dan raised a questioning eyebrow, making the whole group burst out laughing.
"Yes, we're together. Problem?" Dan shook his head, his eyes wide.
"I'm actually-" Dan swallowed, finding it extremely hard to say the next word. "Bisexual."
"Cool." Phil mumbled and then they all started their dinner.
-
Dan reached into his suitcase when he thought PJ wasn't looking and pulled out his teddy bear. He didn't want anyone to see him, a 16 year old boy, holding a Winnie The Pooh bear. That wouldn't exactly be good for his reputation.
He slipped into bed, the bear in his arms. He closed his eyes.
His thoughts so far about the school were positive. Extremely positive. The boys seemed really kind (and not at all snobby), the food was decent and the teachers weren't that bad.
However, he was yet to actually go to lessons.
Was that okay? Did you like it?
