Chapter 7- The New Adventure Begins
I kept staring at the view in front of me for a while.
Then I realize I had to meet Anderson. I open my friends list and search for Anderson's location. Then I remove my minimap, which is provided to every player at the start of the game, and pin his location. I start sprinting.
I keep looking at the view in front of me as I run.
A central canal was passing towards my left side, with few bridges going across it. Towards my right, were a row of numerous buildings made of red bricks. There were shops, inns, markets that sold fruits, and many more. The view was magnificent. It was the perfect setting a developer can create for a medieval world.
There were so many twists and turns on the way, and I also got lost a couple of times. Then, my minimap starts giving a signal, which means that Anderson was close by. I stop in front of a small shop whose banner said, 'Magical stones- the key for witchcraft.' I enter the shop.
It was an old rusty shop. There were strange, small, glittering stones which were illuminating the shop. In front of me, was a red haired boy with golden eyes, leaning his hands on a table in front of him. He turns towards me and grins. He was definitely Anderson.
I look at him and smile. "Hi Andy!", I greet.
Then, an old stout man with white beard, the shopkeeper appears from behind few shelves, carrying a small box. He puts it on the table. It was an old, small, rusty, wooden box. A red glittering light appears as he opens it. It was a red coloured stone with a fire symbol marked on it.
"Here's your Firestone, young wizard!", he says in an old choked voice. Anderson puts it in his pocket and pays the shopkeeper a silver coin.
In fantasy worlds, there are four types of coins, the copper coin, the silver coin, the gold coin, and the platinum coin. Every player gets 5 silver coins and 30 copper coins when they start the game.
10 silver coins make a copper coin. 20 silver coins make a gold coin and 50 gold coins makes a platinum coin.
Then, Anderson and I leave the store.
"What's that stone?", I ask Anderson with a curious look.
He removes the stone from his pocket and replies, "Oh, this is a fire stone. It gives you the power to use magic as you hold it."
He looks at me surprised, and laughs, "I'm sure you don't have any idea about these." I nod.
He scratches his head and says, "Well, there are various stones like fire stone, water stone, earth stone, dark stone, fairy stone, psychic stone, power stone, and so many more, I myself haven't seen yet."
"So, I would require a stone too?", I ask.
He replies, "Nope, Elven magic relates mostly with abilities and changing the shape of element. So, you can't use a stone. Whereas, wizards and witches can create elements and also change their forms, using these stones. But the usage depends on the level you are in."
He pauses for a second a says again, "If you wanna learn elven magic, you have to learn the language which is pretty tough. But, Wizards have to just say the words in English to use the magic."
"Then do elves have any advantage over wizards?", I pout as I say.
He replies laughing, "Yes they do! Elves can master a weapon and level up in very short amount of time. Whereas wizards aren't so good when it comes to dealing with weapons."
Well, I atleast have that advantage over wizards. Elves may be complicated but if I master the power, I guess I can be the best.
Then we stop at a shop which says, "Grafiel's weapon store". We enter the shop.
It was a huge shop showcasing all kind of weapons. The weapons were placed in racks. Every type of weapon had its own row. I go to the row where it said, "Archery".
Over there, there were so many different kinds of bows, with varied range of prices. There were also the archer accessories like arrow packs, strings, bolts and nocks, armour and many more.
I pick up the cheapest bow they had, an arrow pack, a dagger, and a wooden armour plate, and head to the counter. Over there, I see Anderson, who was buying a dagger and an armour plate.
I pay a silver coin and ten copper coins (1 silver coin for the bow and the dagger, 5 copper coins for the arrow pack and 5 copper coins for the armour plate), and then we leave the shop.
We keep walking for a while, looking at the view surrounding us. We go to the town's great hall, which was crowded with people, chatting and also trading objects.
Suddenly, a man runs to the center of the podium, and shouts crying, "This is an emergency! We have all been trapped!"
All the players look at him in confusion. Suddenly, a player shouts, "How are we supposed to quit the game! I'm unable to find the log out option!"
Then, there's a huge commotion in the hall. Anderson and I run out of the hall when, suddenly an unexpected event occurs.
The ground starts shaking as it starts to crack up. And then, the buildings start to shift their position and change shape.
The sky turns blood red and a voice is heard. It says, "Please don't move from your position. This is a part of the game. I repeat, please don't move from your position. This a a part of the game!"
Alarmed, I look at Anderson and he looks at me. Scared, I ask him, "Is this common in fantasy games?"
"I don't know!", he replies with a worried look.
Is this a part of the game, or could it be the evil organization's plan, I kept wondering. Then, the ground stops shaking and the world stops shifting further.
I look up at the view in front of me, to see huge worn out and destroyed buildings. Apparently, it looked liked the picture I've seen in my history class, in the chapter which related to the final world war, before the gizmo was created. In the final world war, many cities were used as battlegrounds. Citizens were harmed and the buildings were bombed. This view, appeared to be like the battlefield of that time.
"Is this a part of the fantasy world?", I ask him, shocked.
"Definitely no!", he shouts with an amused voice. The view in front of us was quite shocking.
Firstly, the man alarming everyone, then the missing logout option and now the change in the setting. Definitely all of this must be a part of their plan. The last thing I would be expecting is someone shouting that we are stuck here for eternity!
Suddenly, a voice resonates through the air. It sounded like a man's voice.
He says, "Welcome to my world, fellow players! I am the game master, Alex Stoian You must be wondering what must have happened, and most of you would have already realized that the logout button is missing!"
He pauses for a second and speaks again, "Well this isn't a bug but a part of the game. And the world you see, is the mixture of all the worlds belonging to different games so far. Further simplified, I can say that I just messed up with all the mirror dimensions you've seen so far."
People whisper as he says that.
He continues, "From here on, the game rules would be a bit different. You have to unlock the lands by clearing quests. If not, the towns would be in a ruined condition and prone to many creatures. You can't logout until you clear the final stage. And lastly, if you die here you would lose your life in the real world as well!"
People whisper like, "How is that even possible?" Or "It's just a joke, right?"
Yup it was possible though. The gizmo uses brainwaves to connect our whole body and soul to the device. If the brainwave's frequency increases, it would affect the brain and the person might die!
He speaks again, "I know this game is going to be harder than you expected. So, I can only gift you this."
Suddenly, everyone starts glowing.
"Now, you can use all the objects you had in your inventory in the other games", he says.
I check my inventory to find all the guns and costumes I unlocked in the other games.
"So farewell folks. I'll be waiting for you at the final quest", he says and the voice disappears. Now, there's a hugs commotion and uproar around us. Anderson looked completely freaked out.
I pat Anderson on his back. He looks at me and tears roll down his cheeks. I'm sure he was super scared. So was I and the rest of the players playing this game. I wonder if the people in the real world got to know about this. I look up at the sky, as the sun sets and grows darker.
The reason why I was sent here, was to save the world and now, my mission has truly begun!
