Chapter 2- Trap or Trapped?
An hour passes as I run non-stopping, taking breaks in between and sticking to the shadows. Keeping an eye out for any suspicious movement within my range of vision, I check my minimap over and over again, as well as avoid stepping over straight paths.
Right now, my main objective is to keep a look out for the last player and at the same time head for the only city in the map. There's a high possibility that the player would show up in the city. If I arrive before him or her, I can set up traps which would aid me in my goal to win. Determination burned in my eyes, as my will to win!
After two hours, I finally reach my destination. Huge worn out buildings loom over me. The city looked like a creepy haunted place that would make the ideal location for celebrating Halloween! Shaking my head, my mind is cleared of these irrelevant thoughts.
The buildings were covered in dust and some looked very old and rusty. Some buildings even looked like they were about to collapse soon. The city reminded me of one of the many famous cities that collapsed in the past century that I had learned about in my history classes.
I stealthily move through alleys avoiding every open spot. I couldn't use the minimap because there were just too many buildings, which made the minimap incapable of tracking down the player. This made me apprehensive, "what if the player already set up traps or isn't even here?"
Tripping over something invisible, a soft ringing sound is heard and a grenade is launched from above. I swiftly backpedal, but it's too late. The grenade lands a meter in front of me, exploding upon contact with the ground, throwing me onto a wall! I fall down on the ground, grunting in pain as I feel my skin burning from the blast.
Realisation hit me that the other player was a step ahead of me. I look at my health bar which had dropped to nearly three-fourths of the total capacity. My thoughts were a jumble as I try to reorganise my mind.
I stare at the sky, getting back on my feet. The player most likely know my location now. Urgh..! Can't believe I fell for such a simple trap.
As a result of adrenaline which in turn causes heightened senses, I feel something stuck to my feet. Too small for a stone, too big for a toothpick. Lifting the sole of my shoe, my eyes spy a small device stuck onto it. It had to be a tracker! Now the fact that the player already knew my position is made crystal clear to me. I turn, once again making sure I wasn't being followed. My eyes flit about aimlessly until something glinted in the corner of my eyes.
Just then, my eyes squint at something reflecting the bright sunlight. It's the scope of a sniper gun! I immediately roll on the ground and escape the view of the sniper, dashing into the building the sniper is in. I am sure it is the top floor, sixth window. Taking out my handgun and sprinting towards the staircase, my body was compelled to take the elevator but knowing that the sounds would alert the other player i couldn't risk.
Floor numbers aren't displayed, forcing me to mentally count the number of floors as I climbed ensure I wouldn't end up on the roof. Reaching the top floor, I start searching for the room with the sixth window. The room the player has resided for a while has one of its windows wide open, so it appears the sniper had already escaped. The only viable place to escape is the roof, urging me to leap out the window and latch onto the ledge of the roof before hauling myself up.
Sprinting along the roof, I put back my handgun and equip my sniper rifle. My calculations were correct. The sniper had escaped via the roof! A rush of excitement flooded my body, my mouth curling upwards in a wide grin as I spotted my last opponent on the roof of a nearby building.
The player grips a sniper gun, already aiming at me. I grin, looking at the player before declaring, "Time to prove who's number one!"
I observe the player closer. The player was a girl. Her cyan locks tumbled over her shoulder as she remained in a position to shoot. She has indigo eyes, carrying the Hecate sniper rifle— one of the deadliest sniper rifles known to gunners, which also has the best accuracy. Not only that, its scope is one of the best if not the best ever created.
I look at her username which appears over her head.
"Audrey, huh?" I mutter to myself, looking at the health bar displayed under her username. She had full HP!
"3 seconds for her to fire..." I whisper to myself, gripping my dagger and, calculating the bullet's interception point. Audrey fires the same time as I release the dagger. The bullet hits the dagger and gets deflected.
I switch my sniper gun to my handgun and begin chasing her. As the distance between the buildings is short, leaping over is an easy task, all that is needed is successfully shooting her. She dodges, bolting. I switch my handgun to my sniper gun once again and start chasing her. The adrenaline in my veins assist me as I quickly close the gap between us, though not close enough to engage in close combat.
Audrey hides behind a bench and aims for me once again. I take a huge iron rod lying beside me and throw it at the bullet fired, deflecting it.
I aim for her as she starts sprinting to the edge of the building.
"You can't escape now," I say to myself. A loud bang ressonates, a signal that a shot is fired.
She quickly hops off the building, barely dodging the bullet. I run towards where she had jumped. It appears that she jumped and landed on a huge balcony on the top floor of a shorter building.
There are two possibilities: she could have used the entrance of the balcony and escape using the stairs or she could be waiting for me to go after her and take the chance to shoot at me.
If it were me, I would wait for my opponent to take the bait. So I prepare myself for the not-so-secretive ambush.
I take out my hand grenade and throw it at the balcony. If she's really waiting, this would act as a decoy for my next movements.
