O ME ! O LIFE !

───── 。゚☆: *. .* :☆゚. ─────

Oh me! Oh life! of the questions of these recurring,
Of the endless trains of the faithless, of cities fill'd with the foolish,
Of myself forever reproaching myself, (for who more foolish than I, and who more faithless?)
Of eyes that vainly crave the light, of the objects mean, of the struggle ever renew'd,
Of the poor results of all, of the plodding and sordid crowds I see around me,
Of the empty and useless years of the rest, with the rest me intertwined,
The question, O me! so sad, recurring—What good amid these, O me, O life?

Answer.
That you are here—that life exists and identity,
That the powerful play goes on, and you may contribute a verse.

that the powerful play goes on , and YOU may contribute a verse. this is one of my favorite poems. o me ! o life ! is a transcendentalist poem written by walt whitman. it's been in many movies, including dead poets society, and to me it's very inspirational. many lines in this poem have symbolism, but the part that gets to me the most is the last line.

no matter what you do, life will continue to fly by. every second of the day is a second of your life passing.  i'm not saying you need to go out and change the world but what i am saying is that you need to do what makes you happy ! one major theme in dead poets society is to think for yourself. don't let others decide your life. don't let others decide your future. only you can do that. you need to create a future that you are happy in. you need to contribute your own verse.
