CHAPTER-THIRTY-FOUR: LETTERS

Tessa and Daniel had been dating for over a year now. Both of them having moved into his Brownstone and brought the Australian Shepherd, Oscar, to come and live with them as well. The couple content and happy with where their life was going. They even renovated the place: painted the walls, changed furniture, added couple pictures, and even added a second desk and bookshelf in his study for Tessa.

He was still working as an FBI agent and couldn't have been more grateful to come home to his beautiful girlfriend after a long day of work, and now Tessa was officially working with an Interior Designing firm and was in very high demand after her first few clients had been extremely happy with the end result. She always bounded home with a bright smile after a successful day at work and would hug him tight in her joy.

Both of them were happy and couldn't imagine their life to get any better than it already was.

And on this particular weekend, Tessa awoke due to the sunlight pouring in through the open curtains. Humming in content, she stretched on the bed and let out a content moan as she stretched on the mattress. Dropping her bare arms to her side, she blinked open her eyes and turned to find Daniel's side of the bed vacant of his presence. Grunting, she turned her head towards her side table, going to pick up her phone before she noticed a tray of breakfast placed on the structure.

"Aww..." She cooed under her breath and pulled the duvet to her chest as she sat up in bed, finding last night's gown and robe placed by her feet.

Pulling on the V-neck blush pink nightgown, she grabbed the trey off the side table and looked down at it.

The trey was set up with a plate of chocolate chips pancakes with whipped cream on top and chocolate chips sprinkled on top, a bowl of cut fruits, jam, butter, and Nutella with two toasts and a glass of orange juice along with a single Red rose to reside in the vase in the corner.

Grinning, she dug into the food, finishing the pancakes before picking up her orange juice, surprised to find a red envelope beneath it. A small chuckle escaped her at her boyfriend's antics as she opened the letter.

"Your lips so soft and red

The thought of kissing you stuck in my head..."

The three dots had Tessa turn over the card.

"Come on down and grab a book,"

Chuckling at the words, she got off the bed and tied the matching robe around her stomach before making her out of the bedroom and made her way down the stairs, and to the bookshelf in the hallway. Smiling as she found a red envelope sticking out from between the books. Picking it, she opened it and read the words:

"Your beauty so bright and warm,

Shining through the darkest storm..."

Turning it over, she found the words "Let's grab a cup of hot chocolate" scribbled in Daniel's writing.

Making her way into the kitchen, she looked at the counters, looking for a red envelope before pulling open the cupboard, finding the letter leaning against the cocoa can.

"Your eyes sparkle like stars in the night,"

"Don't forget your roses, Bambi," Read the back as she walked out to the back patio and down the stairs into the backyard, her bare feet sinking into the soft grass as she made her way to the rose bushes. The envelope placed on top of the flowers.

"When I stare into them, I feel like I am soaring high,"

And turning it over: "I think the laundry is done,"

Looking up, Tessa made her way to the sliding window before her, stepping into the room and finding herself in the laundry room in the basement. Glancing around the washing machine, she pulled it open and peered in, finding a single envelope residing inside, a laugh escaping her as she was enjoying this treasure hunt.

"My love for you is pure and true,

I never stop thinking about you,"

"And the Oscar goes to...?"

Chuckling at the clue, she walked up the stairs and made her way down the hallway, opening the front door before stepping out into the front yard, finding the Australian Shepard patiently waiting for her by the gate.

"Good morning, Oscar," She greeted the dog with a scratch behind the ears as she took the letter hung around her collar.

"The sound of your voice saying "I love you" makes my heart pound because I knew I'd truly found my one and only,"

Tessa cooed at the words before turning it over, "It's chilly outside, lets light a..."

"Fire," Tessa filled in the blank before making her way back inside and closed the door behind her, walking into the lounge, she found the red envelope on top of the hearth.

"I promise to love you for every moment of forever,

And when everything else crumbles,

I never will,"

The letter read before she turned it to find the location of the next one. The simple word "catalog" written in black.

Chuckling, she made her way back up the stairs and further down the hall, finding the study doors ajar before pushing them open, finding the envelope resting on top of the catalogs on her table.

"I am your armor to protect you from harm

Like you are to me, a lucky charm,"

"Come to bed, sweetheart," The back read as she made her out of the study and back towards the bedroom, looking over the cards in her hands before stopping in front of the door, the envelope pasted in front of her. Pulling it down, she took out the card.

"For you are my heart, my soul,

Baby, you are my whole world."

Tears prickled at her eyes as she turned it over, finding it blank and pushing open the door, gasping to see the sight before her.

The room had been made up with fragrant candles lining the perimeter and rose petals strewn across the floor and making a heart on top of their white bed sheet. Daniel kneeling in the center of the room as she stared at him, a hand clamped over her mouth and tears streaming down her face.

"For all these reasons and more, I want to spend the rest of my life with you," Daniel reached into his pocket and took out a velvet box, opening it to show a beautiful gold band of diamonds with a single square-cut diamond in the center nestled between the cushions. The man before her taking a deep breath and grinning at her. "Tessa Forbes, will you marry me?"

Laughing through her tears, Tessa stepped forward and looked down at the man before her. Trying to stifle her sob, she nodded and managed to choke out a "yes", the grin widening on Daniel's lips as he slid the ring onto her finger, watching her bring her hand up to admire the ring before she gasped when he stood up in front of her, wrapping his arms around her waist and spinning her around as she squealed and laughed with joy.
