Chapter Fourteen

(Please know: I have only played Soccer a few times in my life, I chose this game because it is a sports festival, and I think I'll be able to understand Soccer better than Rugby or Football. If the positions are wrong, please just keep reading. I apologize beforehand. I don't think it'd be a big deal if we just ignore the Central Defensive midfield...right?)

Class 1-A and class 1-B stare at each other from across the field. Katsuki and Tetsutetsu are facing off for the ball in the middle of the field. There are two teams for each class, ten on each. Whenever the current players get too tired, they're allowed to 'tagout' and switch with another classmate. After fifteen minutes, the second team will fully take over whatever goals the first team got. The first ten in class 1-A to participate are Mezo, Shoto, Denki, Hanta, Tenya, Eijiro, Ochaco, Kyoka, and Minoru. The first ten for class 1-B are Itsuka, Tetsutetsu, Yui, Kosei, Shihai, Sen, Yosetsu, Setsuna, Hiryu, and Kinoko.

The goalkeeper for 1-A is Mezo, while it's Itsuka for 1-B. For 1-A's other positions, Minoru is the right center defense, while Hanta is the left center defense. Denki is the right defense while Tenya is the left. Ochaco stands as the right midfield defense, and Kyoka stands across from her as the left midfield defense. Katsuki, of course, is the central forward, while Shoto and Eijiro are the left and right forwards. For the positions of 1-B, Tetsutetsu is a central forward, with Shihai and Kosei as the left and right forwards nearby. Yui and Kinoko are the right center and left center defense, with Sen and Yosetsu outside of them as the left and right defense, right outside the goalkeeper's rectangle. Finally, Hiryu and Setsuna are the right and left midfielders.

"Now, I want you two, Bakugo and Tetsutetsu to have three rounds of Rock, Paper, Scissors. Whoever wins gets the first kick! The first class to five goals wins!" Nemuri announces from a nearby stand, "Begin!"

For the first round, Katsuki beats Tetsutetsu with rock against scissors. For the second, Tetsutetsu beats Katsuki with scissors over paper. Before the third round can begin, class 1-A cheers for their representative louder than the rest of the crowd. This gives Katsuki the push that he needs in order to win. He extends his arm with his hand in a fist, while Tetsutetsu extends his own arm, his hand is in the representation of scissors. The entire arena soon becomes echoes of excited cries and cheers, making Katsuki even more cocky than usual. He grins with his victory, and the first round of the soccer game begins.

Katsuki stands with his arms crossed, and the soccer ball under his dominant foot. The rest of his team stand ready behind him, and he smirks. Instead of passing the ball back to one of his teammates, the cocky boy kicks it lightly forwards and begins to rush into the team of class 1-B. He keeps the ball to himself, somehow dodging each person that's tried to intercept. Before the blond boy can get a goal though, Tetsutetsu rushes him, yelling insults to gain his attention. When Katsuki tries to respond, he loses focus and this gives 1-B the chance to take the ball away. So Kosei takes that chance and runs over and takes the ball with his two feet. Katsuki noticeably grows angrier and clenches his fist. He runs after the ball as the two forwards on his own team do the same.

Mezo and his defense line get ready for all hell to break loose. Hiryu and Setsuna are able to keep Katsuki distracted and out of the way while Tetsutetsu and Shihai tail Kosei to make sure that class 1-A can't get the ball. As the three main kickers of class 1-B near the goal, defense begins their duty. Minoru and Hanta focus on keeping Kosei and the other two nearby players busy and away from the goal, while Tenya takes the chance to slide up behind Kosei and steal the ball. He kicks it to Kyoka, who almost loses her balance, but thankfully stays standing and quickly kicks the ball towards Shoto. He and Eijiro head towards class 1-B's goal, with Katsuki angrily following them. After dodging many of the 1-B students, Shoto kicks the first goal.

"If Kacchan doesn't work with his team soon, we might have to win back majority of the five points we need." Izuku mutters ten minutes later, catching his friend's attention.

"Of course." (Y/N) responds, "We've been cleaning up his messes since Junior High."

The boy laughs, "Well, I'm sure we can."

She nods, smiling.

Meanwhile, within the final five minutes of the first team of 1-B and 1-A's round, Katsuki is trying to steal the ball from one of his own teammates.

"Bakugo-kun, quit it!" Ochaco yells from her position on the field, "We aren't going to win if you keep acting like a little kid!"

"What did you say, round cheeks?!" Katsuki replies, a dark aura surrounding him.

"I said.." She approaches the boy, only for a second, and slaps him across the face, "Stop acting like a little kid, play the game like you mean it!" The girl walks away, back to her position while Katsuki rubs the now red area she smacked.

He tsks under his breath and turns back to where the soccer ball is. Shoto and Eijiro are currently fighting for the ball with Tetsutetsu and Kosei. Katsuki, burying his pride and cockiness, approaches quickly and slides between the four boys to kick the ball towards Tenya. The blue-haired boy kicks it to Ochaco, who happily passes it back to Katsuki in order to avoid giving it to a member of class 1-B. He runs with the ball, Shoto and Eijiro following behind and blocking anyone who tries to steal the ball. When they approach the goal though, Itsuka looks about ready for anything. The three boys pass the ball back and forth, trying to throw off the goalkeeper. For a moment, it seems to work. When Shoto passes the ball to Katsuki for the fifth time, Kyoka runs through the middle of them and kicks the ball into the goal, while Itsuka is distracted.

The crowd cheers, as does all of class 1-A. Nemuri announces the end of the first half of round one for class 1-A and 1-B, so the amount of goals for each team is posted for all to see. 1-A has three goals now, while 1-B only has one. Izuku and (Y/N) sigh in relief, giving their two friends, Tenya and Ochaco an encouraging thumbs-up. The two classes are given a short five-minute break.

(Y/N) is doing some exercises on the ground while Tenya and Ochaco push her on. Izuku watches from the sidelines, giggling each time (Y/N) is about to give up. Mostly because, Ochaco and Tenya lift her up to keep her going. Surprisingly, this isn't tiring the girl out.

"Alright, the second half of the first round is about to begin! Second teams, get on there!" Nemuri yells.

Before (Y/N) runs off to play, she finds Tenya and Ochaco and high fives both of them. It makes her feel powerful, not like a criminal, of course, but she feels..safe. Soon enough, the second team for class 1-A and class 1-B are on the soccer field.

For 1-A, Yuga is right defense, Tsuyu is left defense, Koji is left center defense, and Toru is right center defense. Rikido has recovered from the eating contest and is the goalkeeper. Fumikage is the right midfielder, Momo is the left midfielder, and Mina is the central forward. (Y/N) is the left forward, and finally, Izuku is the right forward.

For 1-B, Jurota is the central forward, Neito is the right forward, and Juzo is the left forward. Kojiro is their goalkeeper. Pony is the right defense, near Manga, the left defense. Nirengeki is the left center defense, and Ibara is in the right center defense. Reiko is the right midfielder and Togaru is the left midfielder.

Mina and Jurota have a game of Rock, Paper, Scissors, just like Katsuki and Tetsutetsu did. This time though, the opposite class wins the three rounds. The first kick goes to them. Class 1-A, although slightly disappointed, isn't angry. They know that they can still win this, the first kick is given to the other team is just a minor setback. When Jurota goes to kick the ball forward, he stops just before his foot makes contact and pulls it back towards Neito and Juzo. The two boys attempt to rush past the classmates, but (Y/N) and Izuku slide towards them, almost tripping them, but this gains their attention enough for Mina to get in and steal the ball away. She rushes towards the defense line, weaving in and around Pony, Manga, Ibara, and the other players. She reaches the goal without losing the ball and kicks the ball while looking in the opposite direction to sike Kojiro out, and it works. 1-A now has four goals, one more needed to win.

When the game is reset, class 1-B has to kick first again, since they were scored on. Jurota attempts to pull the same trick that he did at the start of the game, but (Y/N) sees through this and moves the second that his foot lifts to move the ball backward. She slides over and steals it right from under their nose, weaving between the other students until she gets to the goal. Before anyone can stop her from kicking, she kicks as hard as she can. The ball hits the pole of the net and bounces out of Kojiro's grasp, right into the goal.

"Class 1-A has won the first round of the soccer games! Whichever class wins the next round will be going up against them after the other classes are finished playing!" Nemuri announces, as (Y/N) wipes the sweat from her forehead.

The two classes walk near each other momentarily, either heading to the bathroom to cool down with the running water, or to the stands to watch the other classes play soccer. On the way to 1-A's stands, (Y/N) feels someone touch her shoulder. She turns around and smiles at the sight of Ochaco, Tenya, and Izuku.

"That move for the final goal was amazing, (L/N)-chan!" Ochaco cheers, wrapping her arm around the (E/C)-eyed girl's shoulder.

"She's right!" Tenya replies, waving his hands around, "Thank you for winning the game for us!"

"N-No problem guys." She responds, "It was just instinct."

"Really?!" Izuku asks, "Seems to me like you've played soccer before, (Y/N)-chan."

"Well, I have.." She says, rubbing the back of her neck, "Back at my old school, the only way to cope with the bullying was to play soccer. I would barely get caught after school by the bullies because of practice, and my physical ability increased so they started leaving me alone during classes as well.." She notices the pained faces on her friends, "Sorry, I'm rambling."

"N-No..no, it's alright." Ochaco responds, "That's an amazing reason to play soccer."

"Thanks, Uraraka-san."

After the other classes are done their soccer matches, class 1-A goes back down for the next match.
