Hiccup's POV

Please don't mess this up Snotlout! I thought, watching him run like a daft chicken, flailing his arms everywhere. I sighed, knowing I would be here awhile. The flock of wild dragons watched me, Toothless and Hookfang curiously.

The plan was simple: have Snotlout attract the attacker's attention, hopefully selling the idea that I was a sitting duck amongst all the wild dragons (even though we'd befriended all the wild dragons on this island by now, but they wouldn't know that). Then all the dragons would arrive, distracting them. Lastly, the riders would sneak up on them and snatch the cloak - leaving them vulnerable and exposed.

I knew that the attacker would only show if confident, so all the riders needed to pretend to be overpowered by the wild dragons or unarmed.

When I first suggested the plan, Astrid went mental, using the last axe to pin me to the wall. "No way Hiccup! They are invisible for Thor's sake! No way are you being a sitting duck for some Viggo-like plan!" I had to explain I wasn't, all my safety measures - such as having my sword Inferno hidden on my boot - before she eventually agreed.

I had instructed a gronkle to fire on my leg leg, pinning me down. Using a light flame, Hookfang weakened the lava in case I needed an emergency exit. We also had a fake night fury wing poking out from the cliff edge, whilst the real night fury hid nearby as back-up if anything went wrong.

I could hear wing beats approaching. Practically glowing in the moonlight, I could see Windshear flying powerfully. Her silver scales gave away her position, but her elongated neck and slick frame helped her stay in shadows. Behind her, I could see Stormfly, who was much less streamlined due to her upright frame. I could see Meatlug carrying Fishlegs, her small wings flapping furiously like a bee or hummingbird, as well as the twins on their zippleback. They dived, landing in front of me. Upon closer inspection, I could see the backs of all the dragons - only one of which carrying riders.

"Ruffnut and Tuffnut! Thank Thor you came!" I exclaimed, feigning relief.

"The others are helping Snotlout, but sent their dragons to clear away the wild dragons," Ruffnut explained loudly emphasising in odd places. She leapt if Barf and the zippleback head gave her a friendly nudge as the other head encouraged Tuffnut to get off. Almost groaning, Tuffnut followed her.

"Yup. So gronkle lava huh?" Tuffnut walked over, inspecting the mess. "Good thing it was on your metal leg right?"

I rolled my eyes. Of course he would say that.

"Yes Tuff. But Toothless wasn't as lucky, take the dragons and get him first," I ordered. The twins nodded, beckoning Barf and Belch over to the fake night fury. Stormfly, Meatlug, Windshear and Hookfang followed.

They made struggling noises, moving rocks and flora. Occasionally I saw flames from the corner of my eye. Not the most reassuring thing to notice, especially when the twins are in charge.

A silvery line dashed across. Squinting, I tried to look closer.

Everything settled except my soaring heartbeat.

"Guys!" Suddenly, I felt cloth clasped over my mouth. My eyes widened as I tried to bite the material - it was scaly, obviously the cloak. My arms were pinned to my sides, and I felt the pressure on my leg loosen. I kicked, hitting a knee and was released.

"Tooth-!"

I was whacked in the back of the head and everything went dark.

*

Thump. Thump. Thump.

Where am I?

Thump. Thump. Thump.

Oh yeah - plan, attacked, kidnapped... Oh no.

I was tied - a smooth rope-like material held my arms behind my back and my feet together. I was on my knees, my legs kicked out behind me. Immobile.

However, I wasn't gagged. I could taste dust in the air. I also wasn't blindfolded, but I didn't want to reveal my consciousness.

Thump. Thump. Thump.

What where they doing?

Carefully, I cracked open an eye. I could see a girl, who seemed younger than me, but older Gustav, pacing. We were in a small cave of grey stone that had an uneven floor. Her slick, dark brown hair fell around her face as she walked. Beyond her, I could make out a rug and a satchel.

My eyes widened as I realised where I was: her base. Unfortunately, she had caught my realisation. Her eyes were a deep brown that lightened towards her pupil in an eerily familiar way. She had pale skin and a tight scowl on her face.

"Uuum hi?" I tried, testing her. She shot me a look cold enough to freeze magma. Gulping, I ignored the warning and pressed.

"Do you... have a name?"

"You wouldn't know it," she shot back, her voice filled with hatred. What had I done to earn that hate?

"Well, you know a lot about me clearly so I was wondering. Also you did kinda kidnap me soo," I mumbled, trying to keep the tone light. Her fist clenched, knuckles turning white.

"Freya," she responded, voice flat.

"Okay, and your real name?" I asked sarcastically. No one said their real name first. Rolling her eyes, she peered over me. Only now did I notice what she was wearing.

Amethyst and emerald coloured fabrics were weaved together into a striped top. She wore a leather skirt lined with small metal pieces. Black leggings covered her legs up to her slick boots. Clearly, she was not from a poor backround.

"Hiccup, Hiccup, Hiccup. Surely you should know that you have no position to be sarcastic. After all, you are my prisoner," she sneered. I leaned back instinctively. "I have some questions for you, actually. Did you really think your stupid trap would work?"

I raised an eyebrow. "Kinda, yeah."

"I'm not stupid. I know when things are too good to be true," she scoffed, unamused.

"Okay. Fine. Now what?" I relaxed, in an attempt to annoy her. Frustratingly, she seemed perfectly calm, though the loathing was still there. Unnaturally so.

"Well Hiccup," she spat, "I came to this island for answers. You refused to flee, but provided me with an opportunity to get answers from the leader himself as opposed to notes." I gulped, looking into her cold eyes. "So tell me, where was the King of Dragons egg?"

I froze. That kind of information was not to just be thrown around. She chuckled, as if expecting my reaction. Slowly, she took a sheathed knife. She took the leather sheath of in one swift movement, revealing a fine green blade.

It was cold against my throat.

"I will not ask you again," she said in a blank voice.

Astrid's POV

Toothless roared around the corner. Heather, Snotlout, Fishlegs and I rushed towards him, abandoning the fake night fury wing.

There! A line!

Leaping silently from behind the boulder, I crept forwards. Something was creeping near us - something cloaked in invisibility.

Using simple hand jestures, I warned the others. Dragons and riders slowly surrounded the movement, based off of the silvery line.

I threw my axe up and caught it. It was time to strike.

All at once, we charged, roaring the Berk national anthem. Startled, the silvery line moved, revealing-

- an edgewing.

Dread dropped in my stomache like a boulder in the sea. This wasn't our attacker. No, it as a diversion.

Someone screamed as acid was shot. Following my training, I ran behind the dragon, planning on scaring it off.

The dragons fired, a tangle of flames and acid, as I reached it's flank.

"Yeaaaaargh!"

It spun round, frothing acid dripping down its snout to the floor. I didn't flinch. Intense yellow eyes stabbed into mine.

"NOW!"

Everyone shot all at once, scorching the changewing's flank. Howling, it shot up, out of range. Its beady eyes scowered us, before deciding we weren't worth it.

A slight smile snuck its way onto my face, but it fell immediately when a I couldn't find Hiccup. "It was a diversion! To Hiccup!"

I shot off. There were quick footsteps behind me but it didn't matter. What happened to Hiccup while we were gone? Stupid stupid stupid!

Bursting into the clearing, I snapped my head around. There were the boulders and skid marks but no viking.

Hiccup was gone.

My lips formed a thin line. Anger and adrelanine boiled in my veins. I took charge.

"Ruff, Tuff, get on Barf and Belch and check the caves. Fishlegs get Snotlout and check the mountains and forest. Heather scour the coast. They are not to leave. And I will check the water sources. Everyone, go!" I snapped, my voice harsh.

I needed to find Hiccup - who knows what the crazy person would do.

Hiccup's POV

"What's to stop me from screaming to the rooftops?" I challenged, stalling. She scoweled. The pressure on my throat increased as a drop of blood trickled down my neck in the most irritating fashion. Her eyes were focused, unwavering.

"O-okay then." I took a deep breath. "Changewing island." She slapped me. My cheek stung as if jabbed by millions of tiny needles.

"Don't. Lie. To. Me," she jeered through clenched teeth. How she could tell I wasn't lying I had no idea.

I flinched. Sorry Heather, sorry Dagur.

"Berserker island." She nodded, removing the knife from my throat.

"Next. When was your last encounter with the dragon hunters?"

"Including Krogan's singetail riders?"

"No."

"Umm..." She shot me a dead gaze and I tried to remember faster. "When Viggo Grimborn sacrificed himself for me," I mumbled to the floor.

There was a clang. I looked up. The girl, 'Freya', had dropped the knife, looking pale.

"Are you- are you okay?" I asked, cautious and taken aback at the sudden change. She didn't even flinch. A smile slipped onto my face at the opportunity. Slowly, I inched forwards for the knife. I checked she was still in shock, to see if she reacted to my movement. But when I did, I gasped in realization and familiarity.

I knew those eyes.

This girl had their eyes.

She was a Grimborn.
