INTRODUCTION: 16 Years and a day
The sun was about to set, sitting by the porch waiting for her parents to return, Musa solved three word scrambles. " They are taking longer than usual," Musa muttered to herself as she got up to fetch another one.
Turning around she saw standing---
"Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday Musa!"
Their voices echoed as Mr & Mrs. Brown sang the birthday song. Musa Brown was now a 16 years old teenager. "Maa, Papa!" Musa cried, her eyes filled with happiness as she blew out the candles and reached for the cutting knife.
Musa, my baby!!" Her hugged her while her father clicked pictures. "What would you like to have as your gift?"
"Nothing" She cut a piece from the cake and gave it to her mother and then walked towards her father.
Musa knew her wish will be fulfilled without any hesitation except for one thing but she knew that's not possible because she was different.
Different from any 16 years old, different from any other human, different because he has Blue hair.
Musa Brown was born with blue hair, something which can't be logically explained but not only her blue hair was an unusual thing, her eye color changes every day. Her parents thought their daughter was cursed and due to her ill health, they confined her within the house. Afraid of what people will think, they moved away from the city to a semi-remote area near the woods. The only knowledge she gets of the world's appearance is from the movies, books, and the internet. She joined classes online, even though no one knows what she looks like, anonymously she had a lot of friends to chat with but in reality, the empty house was what she returned to even after all this isolation, she was grateful. Grateful to live, grateful towards her parents, grateful for the love she received.
"Musa, I got the DVD of the movie you wanted to watch," her father said waving the DVD in the air. Musa ran towards him, she gasped as she read the title.
"Oh my god! Papa, but how, I mean this was not be released till next month". Musa hugged him. "Should we all watch it together" Her mother suggested to which Musa nodded like a little kid. Her mother laughed at her happy go lucky elementary school kid expression, "let me got get some snacks to eat along then".
Musa turned on the laptop and inserted the disc, her father sat beside her on the sofa after a few clicks the movie started playing. "Here, hold this," her mother returned with the bowl of popcorn.
The movie was playing but Musa's thoughts were somewhere else, she was dreaming of a normal life. Sighing mentally every time she imagines herself to go out like a normal person, to have actual friends, to meet others and explore herself. She finally decided to give it a try.
With all the courage she could gather, Musa decided to ask for her gift, knowing it will never be approved she decided to ask anyway.
"Maa, Papa!?" Musa paused the screen and stood up, her parents stared at her with widened eyes. "Please let me attend school," Musa's request sucked the smile out of her parent's faces. Their daughter's sudden appeal and the fear of losing her started flashing in front of her mother.
"Honey! What is wrong with you all of a sudden, aren't you already attending online classes." Her father said, keeping his voice as calm as possible while her mother's face whitened with fear as she reminisced that day.
"I am but I want to see the world, I for once want to live like a normal person, even though--,"
"Even though what! Darling, you are a perfect person, we are here for you." Her mother interrupted.
"Maa, we can't do this forever. Time will not stop for me, please--please. Papa!" Musa shivered as she saw her father's eyes filled with anger, she had never encountered this side of him but she wanted them to listen.
"Musa, go to your room."
"Papa!"
"Go to your room, this is the end of discussion"
Before she knew, Musa's face was flushed with tears. Running upstairs inside her room, she slammed the door shut and buried her face in her pillow. Once again the pain in her chest started getting intense, reasoning out her parent's decision, once again she cried herself to sleep.
*
The next day, Musa followed her usual routine. Dragging herself out of the bed and forcing to shower, her mind was preoccupied with yesterday's 'talk'.
Coming downstairs, she saw her father watching the news while her mother was sipping her coffee at the breakfast table. "Good Morning!" Forcing a smile she waved at her mother.
"Come here, Hun! I made some pancakes for you" Her mother smiled brightly sneaking glances with her husband.
"School was it!?" Her father said clearing his throat, that sent shivers down her spine.
"Your father and I decided that we will enroll you in one," Musa's eyes widened with awe, like a cat mesmerized with Christmas lightings. Hitting back to reality she pinched her cheek to check if all this is real.
"Are you sure? Am I being punk'd? Where are my real parents?"
Mr.& Mrs. Brown nodded in unison. Musa giggled at the thought of finally getting freedom, she was off to her La la land again when Mrs. Brown cleared her throat for attention.
"But you have to wear a wig and lens to hide your uniqueness". She stated crossing her arms, looking at Mr. Brown in approval.
"Of course, I will never reveal myself, I promise. Oh my god Thankyou so much! Maa, Papa!" Musa said, rushing over to give her mother a hug and then to her father.
Musa was jumping happily, a grin plastered on her face. She was going to attend High school, she was about to experience something totally new to her but little did she know what awaits her.
