Chapter 7
Around the time potions came around, I could barely focus. I still had gotten barely any sleep and the reason for my long nights, was because Moony had yet to write back to me.
In my last letter to him I told him of how school was going and how I missed him. But after a week, I had gotten no reply back and I was scared something might have happened to him.
"In a rush, Potter?" Snape asked walking up to me, a frown on his face.
I took in a deep breath and looked up at him, seeing a look of annoyance on his face I decided to choose my next words carefully.
"I'm just trying to finish the potion, professor." I mumbled as I stared at my notebook.
In the book was doodles and markings all through it. Most of the markings gave tips and steps to perfecting a potion. Snape looked down at my book and snatched it up as I reached for it, so that I could turn the page. I tried to take it back but he held it out of arms reach.
"What is this?" He asked skimming through the book.
"Notes." I mumbled as I looked at the ground.
His face hardened and he slammed the book closed.
"Dumbledore's office, take this with you." He instructed angrily.
He handed the book back to me and I quickly rushed to the headmaster's office. When I arrived Dumbledore was already waiting for me.
"Follow me." The Headmaster said with a gentle smile.
We made it to his office and I was told to take a seat across from him.
"May I see your book?"
"Am I in trouble?" I asked pulling my book out of my bag.
"Of course not, Severus simply wanted me to see your note book. He said that you have quiet the gifted mind." He explained as I handed the book over.
"I just doodle in my book." I mumbled looking at the ground in embarrassment.
"And others, Snape has told me that he saw these same notes in Mister Malfoy and Miss Parkinson's note books. Seems you have been tutoring them." He said setting the book down.
He looked up at me and sent me a gentle smile.
"I just give them tips." I said biting my lip.
"Yes, I'm surprised Mister Lupin didn't tell us how smart you are... unless he doesn't know." Dumbledore said as he looked down at me, a small smirk on his face.
I instantly found myself looking at the ground, he was right and I know he knows he was right. I never talked about my studies with Moony, I never had any reason too. Moony was almost never home and I found myself doing my studies alone.
"I see. Well as it is, I have a letter for you, From Remus." Dumbledore said handing it over to me.
I took the letter and quickly tore it open, excited to hear back from remus after having not gotten word from him in so long.
But as I read the note I slowly felt my happiness die down and turn to angst.
Dear Ebony,
My dear sweet Ebony. I know that I should tell this to you person but, I believe it would be better written, so that I won't stop myself.
I've talked to Dumbledore and I am afraid, I won't be able to continue to raise you. Something has come up and it's better if you aren't with me.
I love you and I never want you to forget that, but I need some time away. I promise when things get better I will come back for you, but for now, it is best that you move in with the Weasley's.
I have already spoken to Molly and she is thrilled to have you stay with her.
Love, Moony
P.S. I love you more than life itself, never and I mean never forget that.
I lowered the letter and stared at the ground.
"Miss Potter-"
I jumped up and took off out of Dumbledore's office, passing by a group of people. I didn't want to hear what Dumbledore had to say, there was no reason for it.
I made it to the moving stairs and set down on the bottom floor and plopped down on one of the last couple of stairs. A sob left my lips as my whole body started to shake and I covered my face.
First he told me I would be spending Christmas at the Weasley's and now he was telling me that I was moving in with them. How could Moony do this? Had I done something wrong? Had it been because of the pranks?
Everything had been going great and now he was gone and out of my life. It hurt to know that I might not see him again, but I think what hurt the most was that he was actually telling me over a letter and not telling me face to face that he didn't want me.
"Ebony, are you okay?" A voice asked making my head shoot up.
I saw the Weasley twins standing in front of me, frowns on both of their faces. My lip started to quiver and I shook my head no. George set down beside me on to door of the stairs and wrapped his arm around me, hugging me gently. I cried into his shoulder and hugged him tightly.
"He... he doesn't want me." I mumbled into his shoulder.
Neither of them said anything, George just hugged me and kept me company as I vented through my frustration of Moony telling me that I couldn't come home. Fred kept me hidden from any mosey eyes, a hand on both of the railings of the stairs.
If anyone came by he would sho them away.
"Hey don't worry bout it, it will be okay, and besides you get to stay with us." Fred said sending me a reassuring smile.
"I don't want to intrude. If it's to much for me to stay-"
"Seriously, don't worry about it. Promise you that we will make room for you, even if you have to room with us." George said cutting me off with a giant smile.
I nodded my head and Fred held his hand out.
"Now how's about we go get some lunch?"
"Or prank Ron?"
"Maybe even Malfoy?" George said cheerfully.
"You two are the best. I don't know what if do without you guys." I said as Fred helped me to my feet.
"Have a boring life-"
"Probably be a heartless Slytherin-"
"Or end up marrying Malfoy." Fred finished as we all laughed.
