Chapter 62
I made it home and threw my bags down. Repairing Hogwarts had taken longer than I had hoped and I was exhausted. Letters had been sent out to all the families of the ones we lost and a funeral had been held.
Remus and Tonks had been buried side by side, just like they died.
Fred still has yet to be buried, his funeral will be tomorrow morning.
A cry made my head snap up and I rushed through the house. I ran up to Teddy's room and saw his grandmother trying to shush him. She looked like a wreck, her hair was in a bun, she was covered in food and Teddy was screaming bloody murder.
"I... he won't stop crying." She whispered thru tears.
"Let me take him." I said as I held my arms out.
She nodded her head and handed him over to me. Almost instantly I took him and she stood up and left the room, leaving us alone. . I shushed him and rocked him back and forth.
"Get some rest, I'll look after him." I whispered as she shut the door.
I started to hum and kept bouncing Teddy up and down.
"Shh I know, I miss them too." I whispered as I kissed his forehead.
I saw a picture of Remus and Tonks and I picked it up with my free hand. A single tear fell and I whipped it away with my elbow. I set the picture back down and shushed Teddy once more.
After sometime he was out cold and I set down in the rocking chair with him, fast asleep in my arms.
"Your daddy was a hero. Your mum too. They saved so many lives." I whispered as I rocked back and forth in the chair, Teddy fast asleep in my arms.
It was time for Fred's funeral and I was worried about bringing Teddy, but Molly insisted that he came too, she told me that Fred wouldn't want me alone, and she was right. As I held Teddy in my arms, I actually didn't feel so broken.
Teddy was like a guardian angel sent down from heaven to watch over me. It was almost like he kept me anchored as I watched the man I loved be buried, six foot under.
George set beside me, Angelina on his other side.
"So what do you plan to do now?" George had asked me as I rocked Teddy back and forth.
"Don't know... probably take Teddy home with me. Andromeda can't take care of him, she's beside herself without Tonks and I promised I'd raise him. So I guess take him home and give him the best life I can." I said as I patted Teddy's back.
"If you need anything-"
"I know. Don't worry, I won't be a stranger. Fred would never forgive me." I whispered as Teddy let out a whine.
The funeral was quick, Molly wanted something simple and quick. She said that Fred wouldn't want us to mourn and that he would instead wish for us to move on, and I knew she was right.
Though I wanted to sit there and cry for my fiancé, I knew I couldn't. I couldn't mourn him when I knew that he died so that we could live, so that all of us could be free and live our lives to the fullest.
After the funeral ended we all went to the Burrow.
"Let me take him." Molly said as she made grabby hands.
I nodded my head and handed Teddy over to her, he stared up at Molly for a second before falling fast asleep in her arms.
"I'm going to check on Percy." I said as I turned and left The Burrow.
Percy was outside toying with his wand. His hair was unkempt and he was wearing a jumper. I walked up to him and placed a hand on his back.
"You okay?" I asked softly.
"Could ask you the same thing. Haven't seen you cry once." He said turning to look at me.
"Don't have the time. With Teddy-"
"Eb, they would want you to mourn. You don't have to hold it back." He said sadly.
I bite my lip and closed my eyes.
"Severus was protecting me." I said after awhile.
"What?"
"Everything he did... was to protect me and my mum. He was never on Voldemort's side. He was always on mine. He died thinking I hated him... but I didn't. I just wish I could have told him."
"He knows."
I turned to look at Percy and smiled softly.
"They both know." He said rubbing my back.
I nodded my head and laid my head on his shoulder.
"I miss them so much." I whispered as I closed my eyes.
