Chapter 5

I let out a sigh as we stood on the quidditch field, brooms at our feets. I was exhausted from having to do detention, Snape having forced me to clean the Potion room top to bottom before I could go to bed.

An older woman with short hair and hawk yellow eyes walked in between us.

"Good afternoon, class."

"Good afternoon, Madam Hooch." They called.

"Good noon." I mumbled as I leaned on my broom.

Draco hit my shoulder and I stood up straight, shaking my head.

"Good afternoon, good afternoon. Welcome to your first flying lesson. Well, what are you waiting for? Everyone step up to the left side of their broomstick. Come on now, hurry up. Stick your right hand over the broom and say, up!" She said walking back and forth.

We all yelled up and held our hands above the broom. It took a couple try's but thankfully my broom shot up into my hands.

"With feeling!" Madam Hooch yelled, so that we could hear her.

"Up!!" Ron yelled making his broom shot up and hit him on the nose.

Both Harry and I burst out laughing, causing Ron to shoot us a glare.

"Shut up, you guys." Ron mumbled before laughing himself.

Everyone had got their brooms and we waited for instructions from Hooch. I rubbed my eyes with my free hand, trying to force myself to stay awake.

"Now, once you've got hold of your broom, I want you to mount it. And grip it tight, you don't want to be sliding off the end." She said sternly.

I climbed onto my broom and held my breath, nervous about actually using a broom.

"When I blow my whistle, I want each of you to kick off from the ground, hard. Keep your broom steady, hover for a moment, and then lean forward slightly and touch back down. On my whistle...3...2..."

She blew the whistle and before any of us could move, Neville's broomstick lifted him off the ground. Neville's eyes went wide as he tightly gripped his broom.

"Mr. Longbottom." She said as he let out a yelp.

"Neville, what are you doing?" I asked in shock.

"We're not supposed to take off, yet." A boy said sternly.

"M-M-Mr. Longbottom! Mr. Longbottom!" Hooch yelled as he went out of control.

Neville started to scream as his broom started to move all over the place.

"Down! Down! Ahhhh!" Neville yelled as he nearly fell off.

"Neville!" I yelled as I watched him fly through the air.

"Help!!!" He exclaimed.

Almost immediately he skyrockets towards the sky. If I wasn't awake, I surely was awake now, as I watched him fly thru the air, screaming for someone to help him.

"Come back down this instant!" Hooch ordered.

"Don't you think he would if he could!" I yelled angrily.

Neville flew uncontrollably in the air and hit a wall. He then flew back towards us and Madam Hooch holds out her wand to stop him, but misses him.

"Mr. Longbottom-!"

Neville was aimed right at her and Hooch was forced to dive out of the way, allowing Neville to fly right through. Neville went through the scatter and up a tower. We all were forced to watch as his cloak caught on to a statue. He was flipped off the broom and just hung there in shock.

"Help!" He screamed.

Just then his cloak ripped and he started to fall. Thankfully his cloak caught into a torch, and he slipped out of his cloak slowing down his fall. He landed hard on the ground and I rushed up to him.

"Everyone out of the way! Come on, get up." Hooch said as I helped him up.

"Is he alright?" Someone asked.

Neville let out a whimper as I allowed him to lean on me.

"Oh, oh, oh, oh dear. It's a broken wrist. Tch, tch, tch. Good boy, come on now, up you get. Everyone's to keep their feet firmly on the ground while I take Mr. Longbottom to the hospital wing. Understand? If I see a single broom in the air, the one riding it will find themselves out of Hogwarts before they can say, Quidditch." She said as I kept a hand on Neville.

I helped her lead him to the hospital wing, where Madam Pomfrey greeted us.

"You didn't have to come." Neville mumbled as I set on the edge of his bed.

"Of course I did. You're my friend and I wasn't making you come here alone." I said with a smile.

Neville sent me a smile, that quickly left when he felt a sharp pain in his arm. I looked around for Pomfrey who was talking to Hooch.

"Screw it. Brackium Emendo." I mumbled as I aimed my wand at Neville's arm.

"It's healed, how did you do that?"

"I studied healing spells last year at home, wanted to be prepared in case something like this happened." I explained.

"You're bloody amazing." He said with a smile.

Pomfrey walked over to us with her wand and I bit my lip.

"Um, you don't have to do it anymore. I fixed it ma'am." I said softly.

"Yea it's all better." Neville said as he moved his arm.

"Impressive, Miss Potter. You have a real talent. Perhaps I see a future for you yet." Pomfrey said with a smile.

After getting his arm bandages up we were allowed to leave and return to our classes.

"You know for a Slytherin you aren't to bad." Neville said bumping my shoulder.

"I could say the same about you, Gryffindor." I said with a wink as I walked away from Neville.

The next morning I learned that Harry became Seeker while we were at the hospital wing, which shocked me because a first year had never been a quidditch player, let alone seeker.

"Seeker? But first years never make their house teams! You must be the youngest Quidditch player in..."

"A century, according to McGonagall." Harry said as the twins came up behind us and Fred swung an arm around my shoulder.

"Hey, well done, Harry, Wood's just told us!" Fred said cheerfully.

"Fred and George are on the team, too. Beaters." Ron explained as I swatted at Fred's hands.

"Our job is to make sure that you don't get bloodied up too bad. Can't make any promises, of course. Rough game, Quidditch."

"Brutal. But no one's died in years. Someone will vanish occasionally..." Fred said as he dragged me away from the group.

"But they'll turn up in a month or two!" George yelled cheerfully.

I rolled my eyes and smacked Fred on the shoulder.

"Ouch! What's was that for?"

"For tormenting poor Harry. Both of you, you know he's already nervous."

"Ah don't be such a prune. Promise we will look after im." George said ruffling my hair up.

"Better, he's my cousin and I only have one of them. Unlike you fools who have thousands." I said laughing as they rolled their eyes and continued to drag me behind them.

When classes ended it was time for detention and I was already exhausted and silently regretting the prank.

"You will be helping me with this potion today." Snape said as he grabbed a book.

"Okay." I mumbled as I rubbed my eyes and walked up to him.

Draught of peace

Snape handed me a couple ingredients and told me what to do with them.

"Add the powdered moonstone until the potion turns green." He said as he motioned to the pot.

I slowly poured it in, watching closely for it to change colors. When it was a clear enough green, Snape stirred the pot until the liquid turned blue.

"Now add some more powdered moonstone until the potion turns purple. Then allow it to simmer until the potion turns pink."

I did what he asked and then found myself falling asleep as the potion settled. When I next woke up I was in my bed, with a blanket covering me. A blanket that I didn't own, it was dark green and had a snake symbol on it.

I let out a hum and closed my eyes and fell back to sleep.
