Chapter 40
I stood beside Harry and the others as we mourned one of our own. It hurt to know that we had lost Cedric, someone I had started to see as a friend.
Since I had returned to the land of the living, Barty had left a note saying that I had killed my self in the forest and well... no one found my body, Harry hadn't left my side.
"Today we acknowledge a really terrible loss. Cedric Diggory was as you all know, exceptionally hard working, intricately fair minded. And most importantly a fierce fierce friend. I think therefore you have the right to know exactly how he died. You see, Cedric Diggory was murdered by Lord Voldemort. The ministry of magic does not wish me to tell you this. But not to do so I think would be an insult to his memory. Now the pain we all feel at this dreadful loss reminds me, reminds us that while we may come from different places and speak in different tongues, our hearts beat as one. In light of recent events the bonds of friendship we made this year will be more important than ever. Remember that and Cedric Diggory will not have died in vain, you remember that. And we'll celebrate a boy who was kind and honest and brave and true right to the very end."
Tears streamed down my face and I closed my eyes. Harry put an arm around me and I let out a sigh. We all raised our wands in memory of our friend.
I think it angered me more because I knew that I was trapped in that trunk all this time and I hadn't been able to help my friend when he needed me most.
When it was done and over with we were able to return home and I still hadn't left Harry's side.
"Do you think we'll ever just have a quiet year at Hogwarts?" Ron asked as I watched everyone leave.
"No." Hermione said as I traced the scars on my arm.
"No I don't think so." Harry said shaking his head.
"Everything's going to change now isn't it?" Hermione asked sadly.
"Yes." Harry said as I turned to look at them.
"Promise you'll write this summer. All three of you." Hermione said looked at all of us.
"Well I won't. You know I won't!" Ron said with a smile.
"Harry will won't you?" Hermione asked softly.
"Yeah. Every week."
Hermione looked at me and I shrugged.
"I gain feeling in my hands again, and I might." I mumbled as I sent her a small smile.
"How do you feel? Haven't had a chance to ask." Ron said as he swung an arm around my shoulder.
"Tired... sore. Weak. But I'll live." I said softly.
"You know, non of us could have done what you did." Hermione said sadly.
"I couldn't even last the spell for a few seconds." Harry mumbled.
"I wish I could have killed him. I wanted to kill him, can't believe they gave him the dementors kiss. He didn't deserve to die so quickly." I mumbled as I turned and looked over the edge.
"It's going to be okay. I promise." Harry mumbled as he rubbed my back.
When I made it to the station, I realized I had no home. My grandmother was gone and I had no where to stay. I looked around and tried to find anyone that I knew.
"Ready to go?" A voice asked making me turn around.
Instantly I smiled softly as I saw Remus smiling at me.
"Yea... I'm ready to go home." I said as he held his arms out.
I rushed up to him and hugged him tightly. He let out a sigh and kissed my forehead. Harry stepped off and Remus gave him a small wave before using magic to collect my bags. He led me to his car and we made our way to his house, where Sirius was waiting for us.
As soon as we made it inside Sirius was at the door pulling me into a hug.
"Hi dad." I mumbled into his chest.
"I thought I lost you." Sirius whispered kissing my forehead.
He pulled away and cuffed my cheeks.
"Let's get you something to eat. You must be starving." He said sadly.
"Not really, I'm just tired... I could sleep."
"Okay, your room is-"
"I know."
I walked to my room and slowly shut the door.
"Give her time, Moody said that... she'd been tortured for days. Barty did a lot of damage. We are lucky she isn't like the Longbottoms." Remus said as I shut the door.
My knees started to shake and I closed my eyes.
"You know we tried to recruit your mum. But she wouldn't join us. Loved your aunt and uncle to much, loved you too much. Now look at her, a shall of a woman, how I wish I could torture her. But I guess you will work." He whispered in my ear.
I opened my eyes and stood up, I shook my head and started to unpack. I saw Moondrop climb out of her cage and lay on the bed. She purred but I ignored her and continued to unpack.
I started to take out my picture frames but dropped one. It shattered and I bent down and picked it up, cutting my finger.
"You're a fighter! I have to say no one not even Longbottom lasted this long! I'm gonna break you, one way or another."
I covered my mouth and felt tears stream down my face. I set on the floor and covered my face.
"When I come back, I'm going to kill you in front of Harry. That way... he losses the last family he has."
I threw the picture frame against the wall and let out a scream, scaring Moondrop. Instantly my door was thrown open and Remus rushed up to me. He wrapped his arms around me and pulled me into a tight embrace.
"It's okay... it's okay." He whispered as I turned and cried into his chest.
He looked back at Sirius, who had tears of his own threatening to spill.
