Chapter 31

"Now we're all settled in and sorted, I'd like to make an announcement. This castle will not only be your home this year but home to some very special guests as well. You see Hogwarts has been chosen..."

Filch walked up to Dumbledore, stopping him in the middle of his speech. He then left almost instantly after talking to him.

"So Hogwarts has been choosen to host a legendary event. The Tri-Wizard tournament. Now for those of you who do not know, the tri-wizard tournament brings together three schools for a series of magical contests. From each school a single contestant is selected to compete. Now let me be clear, if choosen you stand alone. And trust me when I say these contests are not for the faint hearted, but more of that later. For now please join me in welcoming the lovely ladies of the Beauxbatons Academy of magic and their headmistress Madam Maxime." Dumbledore said happily.

The doors opened and I watched as a group of girls dressed in blue, danced up the aisle. We all clapped and cheered as they released butterflies into the air.

"Blimey, that's one big woman." Someone whispered as an older tall woman walked down the aisle.

Dumbledore took her hand and helped her up the steps. He kissed her chuckles and then walked back over to the stand.

"And now our friends from the north, please greet the proud sons of Durmstrang and the high master Igor Karkaroff."

A series of older boys walked up the aisle with Bo staffs in hand. They twirled them around and made sparks appear. One of them spotted me and sent me a wink before making flowers appear. He handed them to me and my face light up as I took them from him. He continued down the aisle and blew fire into the air.

"Albus!" Igor exclaimed walked up to him.

"Igor." Dumbledore said as he hugged him.

We all set down and started to eat in silence, before Dumbledore stood back up.

"Your attention please! I would like to say a few words. Eternal glory, that is what awaits the student who wins the tri-wizard tournament. But to do this that student must survive three tasks. Three extremely dangerous tasks."

"Wicked." Fred said happily.

"For this reason the ministry has seen fit to impose a new rule. To explain all this we have the head of the department of international magic cooperation Mister Bartimus Crouch." Dumbledore said calmly.

A door opened and we all turned to see an older man walk in, with a weird eye.

"Bloody hell, it's Mad-Eye Moody." Ron said in shock.

"Alastor Moody? The Auror?" Hermione said in shock.

"He was a catcher. Half the cells in Azkaban are full thanks to him. He's supposed to be mad as a hatter though these days." Ron explained as I stared at him.

"My dear old friend, thanks for coming." Dumbledore said as he sent him a smile.

"What's that he's drinking do you suppose?" Someone whispered.

"I don't know but I don't think it's Pumpkin Juice." I said with a laugh.

"After much deliberation the ministry has concluded that for their own safety no student under the age of seventeen shall be allowed to put forth their name for the tri-wizard tournament. This decision is final." Crouch said calmly.

"That's rubbish! You don't know what you're doing!" George and a bunch of other students yelled out.

"Silence!" Dumbledore yelled.

He walked over to a box and with a tap of his wand it turned into a goblet containing blue flames.

"The goblet of fire. Anyone wishing to submit themselves for the tournament merely write their name upon a piece of parchment and throw it in the flame before this hour on Thursday night. Do not do so lightly, if choosen there's no turning back. As from this moment the tri-wizard tournament has begun." Dumbledore said calmly.

We all finished eating and then I turned to look at Neville. I sent him a smile and wave, which was blocked by Fred, who shook his head no.

I let out a groan ma shot my head on the table, silently cursing my best friend out. After it was over I grabbed a hold of the twins ears and dragged them to the side.

"Spill what is going on with you, Fred?" I asked angrily.

"Nothing, just I don't want you with Longbottom." He said crossing his arm over his chest.

"Why?" I asked angrily.

"Because he isn't good for you." Fred quickly replied.

"Seriously? Fred, I'm not dating him, I'm just his friend!" I yelled as I glared up at him.

Fred was acting like a child and it was seriously making me sick to my stomach. Fred was acting like he knew what was best for me, when he knew nothing.

"Good then! Cause you are just fourteen! You don't need a boyfriend." Fred exclaimed throwing his hands up into the air.

"I'll be fifteen in December." I said calmly.

"And? You still need to stay single. Besides you can do better than him." He said shaking his head.

"Like who?"

"I don't know! Just not him!"

I rolled my eyes and let out a sigh.

"And what if I want to be with him? Then what?" I asked angrily.

Fred stared down at me in shock for a second before his eyes narrowed and he glared down at me.

"Then I can't be your friend." He said crossing his arm over his chest.

"Fred-"

"No, him or me? You choose." Fred said cutting off George, who looked shocked and a little hurt.

"Please don't make me choose." I begged as I closed my eyes.

I wanted to cry and I wanted to scream at Fred. He was putting me on the spot and was going to end up losing me if he went down this road.

"Why? Because you will choose him?" Fred asked as he glared down at me.

"Yes! I would choose him over a prat like you any day! I hate you Fred Weasley!" I yelled turning and running away from him.

Tears streamed down my face and I quickly covered my mouth in shock. How could he do that to me? How could he after nearly seven years of us being friends just throw me away like that?
