Chapter 2
We arrived at Hogwarts and I internally groaned as I saw McGonagall waiting for us.
"Welcome to Hogwarts. Now, in a few moments, you will pass through these doors and join your classmates. But before you can take your seats, you must be sorted into your houses. They are Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin. Now while you're here, your house will be like your family. Your triumphs will earn you house points. Any rule breaking, and you will lose points. At the end of the year, the house with the most points is awarded the house cup." She said calmly.
Before she could finish, a toad landed in front of her and a younger boy jumped down and grabbed him.
"Trevor! Sorry." He mumbles as he backs away from her, earning a stern look from her.
"The sorting ceremony will begin momentarily." She said turning and walking away from us.
A young boy with short blonde, nearly white, hair started to talk and it was as if his voice alone made me grow annoyed.
"It's true then, what they're saying on the train. Harry and Ebony Potter have come to Hogwarts." Draco said stepping in front of me and Harry.
A lot of people started to whisper and I rolled my eyes. The boy walked up to Harry and sent him a smirk, making me sick to my stomach.
"This is Crabbe and Goyle. And I'm Malfoy... Draco Malfoy."
Ron let's out a chuckle, which instantly causes Draco to get into his face.
"Think my name's funny, do you? No need to ask yours. Red hair, and a hand-me-down robe? You must be a Weasley. Well, soon find that some wizarding families are better than others, Potter. Don't want to go making friends with the wrong sort. I can help you there." He said holding his hand out to Harry.
"I think I can tell who the wrong sort are for myself, thanks." Harry said angrily.
I let out a light snort and covered my mouth as McGonagall returned, and tapped Draco on the shoulder. He turned around and then walked away when she shot him a look.
"We're ready for you now. Follow me." She said as she sent us all a look.
We followed her inside and I got separated from Harry and ended up beside the boy from earlier.
"Hi, I'm Neville Longbottom." He mumbled.
"Ebony Potter." I said as I sent him a smile.
"Which house do you want?"
"I'm fine with any really, as long as it's not Ravenclaw, Moony would disown me." I said with a laugh.
"I want anything but Gryffindor, my parents were one." He said softly
"My mum was a Gryffindor's, so hopefully I'll be one too." I said with a giant grin.
"Will you wait along here, please? Now, before we begin, Professor Dumbledore would like to say a few words." McGonagall said stopping us all in front of the stage.
Dumbledore rose from the main table and we all went quiet.
"I have a few start of term notices I wish to announce. The first years please note that the dark forest is strictly forbidden to all students. Also, our caretaker, Mr. Filch has asked me to remind you that the 3rd floor corridor on the right hand side is out of bounds to everyone who does not wish to die a most painful death. Thank you." He said before sitting down.
My eyes went wide at the last part and I thought that I really should stay away from the third floor, well maybe stay away. Who knows it might not be as bad as he says it is.
"When I call your name, you will come forth, I shall place the sorting hat on your head, and you will be sorted into your houses. Hermione Granger."
"Oh, no. Okay, relax." Hermione, the girl from the train, mumbled under her breath.
I watched as she set on the stool and McGonagall placed the sorting hat on top of her head. I crossed my arms over my chest and waited for it to give her a house.
"Ah, right then, hmm. Right. Okay, Gryffindor!!" It cheered.
A bunch of students cheered and I smiled as Hermione jumped down from the stool with a giant smile on her face.
It then went Draco, an unknown girl, and then Ron. Draco was put in Slytherin and Ron was placed in Gryffindor.
"Ebony Potter." McGonagall called with a frown.
"Don't have to look so grim, Gonagall." I said as I walked up to her with a grin.
She shot me a glare and I plopped down on the seat. I wouldn't show it but I was nervous. My mum had been a Gryffindor and from what I know my father was possibly a Slytherin. If I ended up getting the second one of them I'd feel like a failure and probably change my name, having never actually known my biological father.
"Well very difficult.... A kind soul, but also very courageous. Where to put you?"
I bite my lip and held my breath, extremely nervous.
"I see now, you have a strong need to prove yourself... Ah well then, it must be... Slytherin!"
My eyes went wide and I heard people start to whisper. I quickly jumped off the stool and walked over to the Slytherin's table where they were clapping and Draco had a smirk on his face.
"Looks like we are destined to be friends, Potter." Draco said playfully.
"Rather eat a live frog." I mumbled crossing my arms over my chest.
"That can be arranged."
I rolled my eyes and set down next to a random girl, who was holding back a laugh.
"Harry Potter." McGonagall said with a frown, which was aimed towards me.
Everything went silent and I watched as Harry walked up to the stool and set down. She placed the hat on him and he bit his lip.
"Hmm... difficult, very difficult. Plenty of courage I see, not a bad mind, either. There's talent, oh yes, and a thirst to prove yourself. But where to put you?" The hat asked calmly.
The hat said some other things but due to me being extremely bored I ignored it and toyed with a fork as I waited for it to sort him.
"Well, if you're sure. Better be, Gryffindor!!" The hat yelled.
Everyone cheered and I clapped as Harry rushed over to Gryffindor table.
"We got Potter! We got Potter!" The twins exclaimed.
McGonagall called for our attention and we all turned to look at her. Instantly Dumbledore stood up and cleared his throat.
"Let the feast... begin." He said before sitting back down.
My eyes went wide as with a wave of his hand food magically appeared on all the tables.
We all started to eat and I held back a sigh.
Non of the Slytherin were really talking to me, and I was okay with it but I was also a little sad that no one actually seemed to want to speak to me. I felt eyes on me and turned to see one of the teachers watching me.
"Say moron, who's that teacher talking to the professor with the turban?" I asked after he looked away from me.
"That's Professor Snape, he is the head of our house." Draco explained with a smirk.
"What does he teach?" I asked looking over at Draco.
"If I didn't know any better, I'd say you were trying to become my-"
"What does he teach, you blabbering moron?" I asked cutting him off.
"Potions, just a warning he is super strict and probably won't like you. Seeing as you're such a smart arse." Draco said with a chuckle.
"Ah then he won't like you either, since you are a insuperable know it all." I said cheerfully.
He rolled his eyes and quickly went back to eating, causing a frown to appear on my face as I looked back at Snape, who every so often would look over at me.
