Chapter 18
When dinner was finished, I left to pack.
"Miss Potter, a word."
I turned around and was Dumbledore smiling at me.
"Is everything okay?" I asked softly.
"I have just been contacted by your grandmother and she wants you to move back in with her." He said calmly.
A smile spread across my face and I looked at my trunk.
"Thank you for telling me. I'll have to write to her." I said softly.
"Of course."
Telling the twins was hard but they took it well.
"We aren't-"
"-letting you leave us!" Fred finished grabbing onto my leg.
"Guys, I promise I'm going to visit. And you guys will see me at school." I said letting out a laugh.
"You're our sister." George said sadly.
"And I'll always be that. I promise I'll come visit on break and I'll always talk to you at school." I said as I sent them a smile.
"Are you ready, dear?" Gran asked softly.
"Yes, I'm ready." I said as I sent her a smile.
She grabbed my bags and with Arthur's help put them in the car.
"Thank you for watching her, I hated to leave her."
"It was no problem. She's my second daughter after all." Arthur said with a chuckle.
"Goodbye." I mumbled as I hugged him.
"I'll miss you, too." He said kissing my forehead.
I pulled away from him and jumped into the car, as we drove away I waved to everyone and yelled goodbye to them.
It was an hour drive to her home and when we arrived I carried my things inside. Gran had actually moved houses while I was gone and I was surprised to learn that it was bigger than our old place.
"I have your room ready for you. I hope it's okay." She said as she opened the door.
The room was beautiful, it has a table with potion supplies and bookshelves on the wall next to my bed. There was a simple wooden desk beside the door with a chair and note books on it.
The walls were tan and the bed was a giant queen size mattress.
"It's perfect." I mumbled as I set my bags down.
"I'll let you unpack." She said turning and leaving my room.
It didn't take me long to unpack and when I was finished, I had my books on the shelf and my clothes in the closet. Everything was organized and in its rightful place.
The last thing I had to unpack was my photo album and my picture frames. George and Fred had gave me a picture of the whole family and then a picture of me with them.
I placed them on my desk and then put the picture of me and my mum on my bedside table. I plopped down on my bed and let out a hum as I closed my eyes and relaxed.
"Ebony! Can you come down!" Grandmother yelled making me jump up.
"Something wrong?"
"No, but I'd like for you to come with me to town. I need some groceries."
I nodded my head and grabbed my purse. When we arrived it was crowded and hard to get to the store. We got groceries after groceries, which she used magic to teleport home and then to return to me.
"Hurry, I have one more stop."
"Where are we going?" I asked with a laugh.
"You will see." She said as she took my hand.
Magical Menagerie appeared into view and she led me inside.
"Ah, what can I do for you?" The owner asked with a smile.
"We are here to find a pet for my granddaughter." She said wrapping an arm around my shoulder.
"Really?" I asked in shock.
"Yes." She said with a small nod.
She let go of me and I looked around the room. My eyes soon landed on a cage that was completely covered.
"What is that?" I asked as I heard a screeching sound.
"You wouldn't want that, that is a Kneazle and a mean one. She doesn't like anyone or anything. Had her for bout a year now, and she just gets meaner."
I took the blanket off and saw a pure black Kneazle with white eyes. Instantly she hissed at me and backed up.
"What's her name?"
"Doesn't have one, I just call her it."
She calmed down when I crouched down and stayed quiet.
"She's blind." I mumbled as I waved my hand in front of her.
"What? No she-"
"Her eyes are pure white almost. She can't see me, only hear me. She probably is just scared." I explained as I stood up.
I picked the cage up and she let out a hiss.
"How much?" I asked turning to look at him.
"You think you can handle her, then you can have her."
I looked over at my Grandmother, who just shrugged her shoulders. After buying everything I needed we left for home. I set her up and laid down a bed for her, with a bowl of food and water next to it.
"I'm not going to hurt you, I'm just going to open the cage." I said softly.
As soon as the door opened she was running around. She jumped on my bed, of more less tried to. As soon as she jumped she hit the ground with a thump.
"Are you okay?" I asked as she laid down.
She turned to look for me and I watched as she struggled to find me. I whistled and her head snapped in my direction.
"I'm right here." I said softly.
I continued to whistle until she was right in front of me, and then I held my hand out. She started to sniff it and then set down in front of my hand.
"You're not a bad girl, you just need someone to see for you." I said softly.
She rubbed her head against my hand and I gently pet her. Within seconds she was laying in my lap, snuggled up.
"What to name you." I mumbled as I stroked her head.
I looked around the room and saw a book with a picture of a moon on it.
"How bout, Moondrop?" I asked softly.
She purred and I let out a light laugh.
"Welcome home, Moondrop." I said softly.
I let out a hum as I followed Gran to the Leaky Cauldron, Moondrop was fast asleep in her cage.
"Ebony!" George exclaimed as I walked through the door.
"Finally back!" Feed exclaimed as they both ran up and hugged me.
I rolled my eyes and hugged them back, Fred quickly took my bags while George led me to the table.
"Harry, it's good to see you. Heard about your aunt, she had it comin." I said as I hugged him over the table.
"What's in the cage?" Ron asked after I set down.
"Moondrop, she's my Kneazle. Pure black and purely blind. Can't see a thing, but she's smart." I said softly.
"Well keep her away from Scabbers, Hermione's beast has already tried to eat him." Ron grumbled holding his rat closer.
"I don't blame you, Crookshanks." I said as I patted the cats head.
I heard a hiss and rolled my eyes.
"Moondrop, you know you're the only cat for me, you jealous bastard." I grumbled as I handed her a snack.
Before long we were on the train and I was sitting across from the twins. I pulled out a book and started to read it while, Moondrop laid on my lap and the twins talked about new inventions they were working on.
"Did we stop?" I asked as I felt a shift in the train.
"Seems that way." George said as Moondrop let out a hiss.
The door opened and Draco climbed inside.
"What are you-"
He covered my mouth and we watched as something walked past the compartment.
"Dementor." He whispered as Moondrop climbed onto his lap.
She cuddled into him and I silently disowned her. Draco soon let go of me and took a step back. Almost instantly the train started back up.
"Get out." I said as I kicked him.
"Watch it, you will hit the cat." Draco said as he stood up, holding Moondrop in his hands.
"Give me my cat back."
"Say please." He said with a smirk.
"Malfoy-"
He threw the cat at me and I caught her instantly. She acted as if nothing had happened and curled up into a ball.
"See you around Potter."
He left the compartment and I rolled my eyes. I gently pet Moondrop and let out a sigh. We finally arrived and Moondrop was taken to my room, while I went to the great hall. After the sorting and we all had set down Dumbledore gave his big speech.
"Welcome! Welcome to another year at Hogwarts! I have a few things to say, before we become befuddled by our excellent feast. I myself am particularly looking forward to the flaming kiwi cups, which, while somewhat treacherous for those of us with facial hair-"
McGonagall cleared her throat and he nodded his head and let out a sigh.
"Mm. Yes. First, I'm pleased to welcome Professor R.J. Lupin, who has kindly consented to fill the post of Defense Against the Dark Arts. Good luck to you, Professor."
