Chapter 13
A week later and it was time for my potions class and I rushed to Professor Snape's classroom. As I ran through the hallways, I felt a pair of hands stop me.
"Where you-"
"-off too?" Fred and George asked smiling down at me.
"Potions, now move." I said as I pulled my arms away from them.
They shared a look as I pushed past them and ran towards the Potions classroom. When I saw the door, I ran inside and gasped for air. I looked up and saw that Snape was at his desk, grading some papers.
"You are late, Miss Potter." He said without looking up.
"Sorry, Professor. The Weasley Twins stopped me from-"
"No excuses. Today I will be teaching you how to make a Fire breathing potions." He said slamming his book shut.
He stood up and I dusted myself off and looked up at him.
"Fire breathing? That's a beginners potion." I mumbled under my breath.
"What was that?" Snape asked as he raised an eyebrow.
"Nothing sir." I mumbled as I quickly looked at the ground.
"Do you believe you can do better?" He asked glaring down at me.
"No, sir. I just-"
He walked over to his shelf and pulled out a book. He threw it down on the table and opened it up to the page with Draught of Living Death on it.
"How about you make this?" He asked with a frown.
I took the book from him and read through the instructions.
"Wow these are really out dated." I mumbled as I grabbed the ingredients from the shelf.
Snape watched me as I put all the ingredients down and started to make the potion. I first got to work on the infusion of wormwood and then the powdered root of asphodel.
"Professor, do you have a silver knife?" I asked looking over at him.
"And why, pray tell, do you need a silver knife?"
"Oh um it's better to crush the beans not cut them. It releases the juice better." I explained.
His eyes went wide and after a couple of seconds he left to get me a dagger. He handed it to me and I got to work on finishing the potion. After awhile I was finished and I watched as the liquid turned a pale lilac colour before turning clear.
"Done." I mumbled as I stepped away from the cauldron.
He grabbed a lead and dropped it inside, in a matter of seconds it disappeared.
"Impressive. It seems I might have underestimated you, Miss Potter." Snape said turning to look at me.
He clicked his tongue and picked the book up.
"How did you know that it was better to add a clockwise stir after every seventh counterclockwise stir?" He asked calmly.
"Um practice? I use to practice how to make potions all the time. Uncle Moony use to allow me to buy ingredients but he stopped." I explained with a frown.
"What all have you made?"
"Oh Polyjuice Potion, Felix Felicis, and some others." I said softly.
"You made Felix Felicis?" He asked with a frown.
I nodded my head and he stared down at me.
"What haven't you made?"
"Wolfsbane potion, Amortentia, Calming Draught, and a bunch of others, but that's just because I haven't had the supplies. I'm sure I could make them given the chance." I said as I looked up at him.
"Next lesson, Calming Draught." He said as he motioned for me to leave.
I nodded my head and rushed out of the room. Not long after the class ended it was time for me to head to the quidditch field to watch the game. The games ended with Harry catching the snitch and falling off his broom.
We all ran towards him and I saw him holding his arm. I helped him up and he let out a groan.
"Are you okay?" I asked softly.
"No, I think my- I think my arm's broken." He said as I took a look at it.
"Let me-"
"Not to worry, Harry. I will fix that arm of yours straight away." Lockhart said happily.
"No, not you." Harry said pulling away from him.
"Oh, poor boy doesn't know what he's saying. Now, this... won't hurt a bit. Brackium emendo!" Professor Lockhart said using his wand.
Almost instantly I knew he had done it wrong. I held back a groan and covered my eyes, I didn't want to see the mess he had made. After a couple seconds I turned my head to see Lockhart holding Harry's arm. His arm was like jelly practically and I felt sick to my stomach as I stared at it in shock.
"Ah, yes, well, ha, that can sometimes happen, um, but- uh, the point is, uh, you can no longer feel any pain, and, heh- very clearly, the bones are not broken."
"Broken? There's no bones left!" Hagrid yelled making me groan in annoyance.
"Much more flexible, though."
Harry and I both shot him a look of annoyance. We helped Harry to the hospital wing were Madam Pomfrey got to work on fixing him up. She passed by a groaning Malfoy, who clearly wasn't in pain.
"Oh, Mr. Malfoy, stop making such a fuss, you can go. Out of my way. Out of my way! Should've been brought straight to me. I can mend bones in a heartbeat- but growing them back..." Pomfrey mumbled as she set something down.
She was rushing around the room looking for something, that I could only tell was the potion to grow bones back.
"You will be able to, won't you?" Hermione asked causing everyone to freeze up in fear, including poor Harry.
"Oh, I'll be able to, certainly. But it'll be painful. You're in for a rough night, Potter. Regrowing bones is a nasty business." Pomfrey said shaking her head.
She handed him the mug and I rubbed Harry's back as he drank it. He let out a gag and I looked away.
"Well, what do you expect? Pumpkin juice?" She asked with a frown.
"Good luck Harry." I said standing up and leaving the room.
"Yea." He mumbled as he set the cup down.
