5. An unexpected visitor
I sighed to myself, bored. The usual smell of baked goods wafted through the air and the door chimed every now and then with new costumers. It had only been a couple of weeks after I visited Granny Nans and I couldn't help but think about her. 'Is she doing okay? Has she finished all the baked goods that I gave her? I wonder if that dog-boy is okay?'
I stopped my thoughts instantly and shook my head, my H/L H/C hair shaking behind me like a dog.
"I'm thinking about him again." I mumbled to myself and laid my head on my arms over the display case.
"Who? Christopher?" Mama asked leaning on the display case next to me. Her blue eyes showing concern. I sighed before shaking my head. I could tell that mama was confused as she raised an eyebrow and tilted her head in confusion. "Then who?" She asked. I raised a hand, not getting up from my face down position and waved her off with a low 'Nothing'. She huffed in annoyance and sounded as though she was about to say something before the small chime of the bell interrupted her. 'Saved by the bell!' I thought and sat up with a big smile towards the costumer.
"Hello welcome to-" I stopped mid-sentence once I saw that same trimmed blonde hair, blue eyed, tall boy. "Chris." I said losing my smile and slumped again. A smack to the back of my head caused my head to smack straight into the display case. I instantly grabbed the front and back of my head as pain shot through both ends in waves and groaned at the pain.
"Be nice to Christopher, he's a customer when in the bakery." Mama scolded me with a frown.
"Sorry Mama." I groaned slightly while rubbing both ends of my head. A deep chuckle was heard and I gave a small glare at the source. Chris, who was currently in my face leaning against the display case. I leaned back instantly, closed my eyes, and sighed deeply before reopening my eyes with a smile. Forced, obviously. "How may I help you?" I asked in a forced manner, mama seemed pleased for now as she walked off to let me tend to Chris.
"Well, I thought I could repay you with a date." He said, a smug smile on his face as though he just won the lottery. I could feel my lip twitch slightly and dropped it, only to raise an eyebrow.
"A date?" I repeated, the words coming out in pure venom as the idea was a horrible one. 'He does know I don't like him, right?' I thought to myself then mentally slapped myself knowing that he does, yet he still tries.
"Yeah, a date. Well..? Yes, no?" He asked leaning in closer somehow. I frowned slightly and huffed in annoyance, but though about it for a couple of seconds.
"Well..." I said putting a hand under my chin in fake thought before turning back to him. "I-"
"Y/N?" Papa said interrupting me. I instantly turned to him in favor of being able to ignore Chris' protests of an answer.
"Yes Papa?" I asked with a small smile, much happier to look at him than the blond in front of me. His apron was covered in flour and dough, as well as his hair, but he didn't care as he exited the kitchen.
"..Do you want to head to Granny Nans, it's been quite a while since you first went." He said, although he seemed hesitant about asking. When mama heard she instantly froze and stared towards me, already knowing my answer as I smiled even brighter, almost jumping for joy.
"YES!" I shrieked happily, Chris jerking backwards in surprise and nearly falling over in the process. He blinked confused as he watched me instantly bolt from behind the counter and into the kitchen, going to get my basket.
"I forget, tell me again why you wanted to come with me?" I asked annoyed, a small frown on my face, as Chris followed me down the town towards the woods. Dirt kicking up slightly from our footsteps as we passed by the many wood and stone houses and stores, my basket hanging from his arm loosely. The usual bustling town was slightly calmed from it's usual rowdiness since it was a work day. The sun was high in the sky along with a couple of clouds, the wind was blowing gently rustling my hair and hood slightly yet cooling my skin from the heat of the sun, making it the perfect weather.
"Because had I not my old man would've thrown a fit for not escorting a lady to her destination." He said stretching his arms up, popping his back, and showing his lower abs slightly. I rolled my E/C eyes at him as a few passing girls stared at him, or his abs really. He gave a smug smile to them and winked causing them to blush and giggle at each other while looking away.
"Could you be anymore of a womanizer?" I asked nonchalantly making him turn towards me, losing his smile, just as we finally exit the town. The sound of crunching stone below me giving a sense of familiarity as the houses and stores started disappearing and becoming more spaced out and coming from different roads.
"I could stop, but someone won't date me, now will they?" He said staring at me from the corner of his eye. I just continued to stare down the road, the forest coming closer and closer. A sudden feeling of being watched by something was evident, seeming as though someone was staring right at me. I stared at the forest, looking for the source.
"Nope, and I never will." I said, the entrance was almost there and yet there was no one that I could see was staring at me. 'Maybe it's Chris?' I thought and glanced at him, but he was also staring straight ahead. I looked back.
"Y'know you never did answer my question." He said making me thing back to his question from the shop. I paused just as we reached the fork in the road, stared at the forest before turning to Chris, and held a hand out. He stopped a couple of centimeters in front of me, going the other way, and gave me a confused look.
"Basket." Was all I said, not wanting to deal with him anymore today. He raised an eyebrow then handed me the basket. Once it was in my possession I instantly turned towards the forest and started my way into it. The sound of gravel instantly turning into the sound of crunching twigs and leaves, I could hear some birds chirping in the forest a little ways away, yet still couldn't find the source of the staring eyes.
"Wha-Hey! Y/N you shouldn't go into the forest!" He exclaimed, but didn't make a move towards me since there was no crunching of leaves behind me, I ignored him, continuously looking around and kept walking. "Y/N! Hey! At least answer my question!" He paused as I entered the forest, the smell of pine consuming me, most likely gone from his view. "Y/N!" He yelled.
I paused in my walking. The birds ahead of me stopped chirping, leaving me in slight silence. I sighed in annoyance. "He's so annoying." I mumbled and continued my way through the forest, the sound of crunching leaves, birds chirping, the smell of pine, and the occasional rustling of leaves making me feel at ease.
Except for the staring. That was creeping me out.
