3. Where did he go?

"I'm serious! It was a blonde boy with dog ears and a tail!" I pushed leaning forward on the table as Granny Nan raised an eyebrow at me. We were currently sitting in the kitchen. Wood floors adorned the fairly large room with matching white cabinets, the basket of baked goods sitting on the stone counter. While we talked about my journey up the mountain the topic of the blonde dog-boy came up causing this discussion. She seemed to pause, looking me up and down in my normal T-shirt and baggy pants, my red hood sitting on the chair behind me, before looking me straight in the eye and leaned forward with a smirk.

"I believe you." She said and I was about to exclaim my gratitude before she raised a finger up and gave a stern look. "But, you cannot tell anyone in the village." I blinked in surprise staring at the greying blonde woman in front of me wearing a flowered nightgown. I frowned in disagreement.

"Why? This could be-"

"A major issue for the village," She said effectively cutting me off. "If the villagers knew of a 'Dog-boy' in the woods, they could assume he is the wolf in the legends and decide to put an end to said legends." She said and leaned back, a smug smile donned her face. I stared at her for a second, taking in that idea, and sat back in my chair looking down at the table between us two.

"Right, so no telling the village." I said after a while and glanced over to the window to see not the village, but a blur of blonde that stole my attention instead. My eyes stayed glued to the spot before Granny Nan said something.

"Would you look at the time!" She exclaimed making me glance over to her as she herself stared out the window as thought looking to see what I was seeing. "It's almost dusk, let's make some dinner shall we?" She said before standing up, her chair dragging across the floor.

"R-Right." I said standing myself not scratching the chair on the floor. I glanced back to the window, looking for the familiar hair of blonde, before giving up and heading over to the counter in order to help Granny Nan with cooking.

"I win again!" I shouted happily taking away the last red checker piece from the wooden board on top of the table. Granny Nan chuckled lightly. This was the third game we played after the delicious potato and leek soup that Granny Nan had made for dinner. This was my second win so far and I had a slight thought that she was letting me win, but didn't say anything about it. Granny Nan glanced out the window making me look over to the darkness outside. You couldn't even see the trees within the darkness of the night.

"This has been a fun night, but I think it's best we retire." She said standing up, not scrapping the chair this time. I nodded in agreement and stood as well. She made an attempt to grab the leftover plates until I spoke out.

"You can go to bed Granny Nan, I'll put everything away." I said making her pause in her action of grabbing the nearest plate. She looked as though she wanted to object, but instead just smiled and put a hand on my head. With a quick ruffle of my hair she made her way out the kitchen and into the hallway to her room. I sighed happily with a small smile before picking up all the dishes from the table and rinsing them off in the sink before setting them beside it on a towel to dry. I made my way to the table to pick up the checker board before a thought occurred.

'I wonder did the dog-boy go home?' I thought and glanced over to the window looking out to the front yard. I stood there for a couple of seconds, debating whether to see if he was still around or not, before finally taking a step over to the window. My steps were slow as I continued quarrel with myself whether I should or shouldn't actually check and before I knew it I was in front of the window. The darkness of the night contrasted with the  dull light coming from the house. Sighing I swallowed my anxiousness and set my hands on the cool glass slowly reaching for the latch and unlocking it.

I gripped the window handles and took a deep breath. Then without hesitation I opened the window, the cool breeze of the night burst into the room making me shiver slightly. Releasing the breath I held I noticed how it left a cloud. 'Just how cold is it up here?' I thought as I kept breathing out clouds of breath. I leaned out the window, the cold air making me shiver as it cut through my clothes the sound of crickets filling the cold air, and looked from left to right only seeing a rocking chair, the banisters covered in pots hanging from the ceiling with flowers blooming out of them, and the wooden wall. I huffed with a frown, 'I guess he did leave' I thought to myself closing the window once more and latching the lock in place. I stood at the window for a couple seconds thinking about the dog-boy for a couple of seconds before remembering what I was doing before and turned to continue doing it.

I went to bed in my apple printed bed that night with little to no sleep.
