Second Chapter

Confusion filled the facial expression of Gloria. She looked at Lacey then looked at Angela. It seems like the two are having fun together. They could even pass as a mother and daughter tandem. As soon as Gloria realized what Lacey was talking about, she put on a smile on her face and went near Lacey and Angela.

“It seems like you like her so much.” Gloria said which cause Lacey to face her.

“Well, I believe I can be the mother that she needs. With her, I can fulfill my longtime dream of becoming a true mother. I don’t why but I feel this certain connection with her. It’s as if she’s my daughter that was lost for a long time and finally, my search for her has come to an end for I found her today.” Lacey said almost crying.

Gloria felt the sincerity in Lacey’s voice. She could fully understand the situation of Lacey for she is a mother as well. Gloria stopped herself from crying and started talking again.

“There’s actually a way on how you could make your dream a reality.”

“What am I supposed to do?”

“I’m allowing you to adopt Angela. She likes you and you like her. I always wanted Angela to be happy. This is the first time that I saw her smiling and even laughing. I would like to see her that way and I believe that she could be completely happy with you.” Lacey’s eyes started to glow with happiness. Her lips started to curve to form a smile – a very big smile.

“What do I need to adopt her?” Lacey asked.

Gloria then gave Lacey all the things that she would need to officially adapt Angela. Lacey then called George immediately to tell him the good news. Well, it may be true that Angela could be “old” to be adopted but Lacey and George didn’t mind. What’s important is that finally, they would be a complete family. Their dreams would slowly turn into reality.

“Mrs. Mitchell, after gathering all the papers needed for the adoption of Angela, you could go back here and we would be very pleased to take part in the completion of your family.” Gloria said with a smile. Lacey smiled back in return.

“Uhm. Could I see her again one last time? Well at least for today.”

“Of course, Mrs. Mitchell.” Then Gloria and Lacey went back to the room of Angela.

Angela was crying again when they got there but the moment she saw Lacey, the frown turned into a smile. The cry turned into a laugh. The stomping due to sadness turned into jumping for joy. Angela is indeed happy everytime she sees Lacey. They really do have this connection.

“Mo-mee!” Angela said.

“Hello Angela. I’ll be adopting you. The moment we’re done fixing the papers that we need, I’ll be your mommy.”

“Mo-mee!” Angela replied and then she started to chuckle.

“I’ll go ahead first, okay? By the time that I’m back, I’ll be with your daddy. Just wait for me, okay?” Lacey said and Angela nodded in agreement. It’s as if she understood every word that Lacey said.

After their small conversation, Lacey toured the rest of the orphanage. She noted down every little thing that the orphanage needs. She wanted to do something for the home of Angela for the past years. She wanted to give back to the place that made her dream a reality.

Days have passed and Lacey went back to the orphanage. George was with her just like what she promised Angela. They both have smiles on their faces and excitement can be felt between them. They went straight to the office of Gloria to finalize things.

“Good morning Gloria. I’m back with the papers needed just like what you’ve said. I also brought in the donations that I think the orphanage would need.”

“That’s so nice of you Mrs. Mitchell. Thank you very much. Now, you just have to sign these papers so that Angela would officially be a part of your family.”

Lacey and George signed the papers needed and after which they went to the room of Angela. George was fascinated to see the child that would be their own. Finally, he saw the child that her wife has been talking about ever since she got back to their house.

George and Lacey went near Angela. Angela instinctively turned to face the couple. She smiled and started talking again.

“Mo-mee. Da-dee.”

“Did she just call me Daddy?” George asked in amusement.

“Yes, honey. She called me Mommy since the first day that we met. Isn’t she an angel?”

“Well I guess that goes along with her name.”

“Ah. Regarding that matter, I want to change her name.”

“But why? Isn’t Angela a nice name?”

“Yes, it’s nice but I want her to use the name that I wanted to give our first ever daughter.”

“And what is it?” George and Gloria asked Lacey.

“From now on, she will be known as Brooke Mitchell.”
