Chapter 8 - I Don't Care Anymore

"Give me my daughter. She's my daughter." The lady argued, her true venomous side showing.

"I can't let you bring her back. Your heinous acts, after hearing all that you have done to her, directly from her, I simply cannot let you. Please leave before I call the police." Mrs Park pointed to the door.

The lady huffed as she harshly grabbed her purse off the table and stormed her way out.

Ra In's POV

"Are you okay now?" Chanyeol and I were sitting at the bench outside at the garden. I nodded, head spinning from crying so much. The phantom sensations were there but faint.

We sat there as we watch the younger kids run around and play together. I never played with my peers. They were scared of me, and made fun of me. I always felt safer in my own room, and that's where Chanyeol would come in and keep me company. Back then, he was like the world to me. Now, I'm independent. or so I thought.

"Actually, you cried and told me about her on a few occasions. But afterwards, you'd wake up remembering nothing." Chanyeol confessed as he looked at the sky, sighing deeply while remembering those painful times. A solemn silence took over them, with noises from the playful children masking it.

"I'm contemplating on whether I should look for my dad and my brother...." I trailed off. And then it hit me. I don't remember their faces anymore. Plus, it would have changed by now. Oppa will be much more mature-looking than the him years ago and dad would have aged a lot.

"If you want to, I can help you." Chanyeol looked at me, his face showing sincerity. I shook my head. He has done so much for me and I've yet to return the favours.

"Yoo Ra In. Come with me. NOW." The lady's voice boomed, interrupting the peace. The children playing came to halt as they stared with fearful eyes. My own eyes widened as I looked at her frightening face. My hands started trembling, fear taking over me once again as I slowly stood up. It felt like my body was compelled to move. Behind me, I could feel Chanyeol stand up and he grabbed my wrist.

"Ma'am, please lower down your voice." Chanyeol pulled me out of my trance and behind him, standing protectively in front of me. I whimpered as I meekly held onto his uniform.

"Yah! Who are you to tell me what to do? Step aside or I'll be nasty." She warned.

"Go ahead but let's see who'll get into trouble." He countered bravely. On cue, two policemen came running and grabbed the lady by her arms.

"I'm sorry. It seems like convict 3845 has caused trouble. 3845, your time is up. Please follow us with full co-operation." One policeman said as they both dragged her away, her protesting with her entire body and screaming profanities of all sorts.

"Convict?" I hiccuped.

"Seems like she's jailed for her wrongdoings. Doesn't seem like she's reflecting on it though." Chanyeol let go of my hand before pocketing his and jogged inside the building, mumbling something about being cold.

All I could do was sigh and look up at the sky. "I shall not look for them." I turned around and went inside as well.

Next day...

No one's POV

Chanyeol stayed at the orphanage for the night and they got ready for school.

"Park Chan Yeol, act like you don't know me, I'll act like I don't know you. No one needs to know what kind of relationship we have." Ra In now had her stoic face on. She grabbed a slice of bread off the table and walked to the bus stop.

The bus ride was the same ol' uneventful ride, her eyes glued outside the window. Upon arrival at school, people made way for her as soon as she stepped in, as usual. She took hurried steps to her locker, and again as usual, letters piled up inside and she threw it away, knowing the contents of the letter. She was getting sick of this. She can't imagine the number of trees cut down to write these hate messages to her and can't help but feel a tinge of guilt.

"Useless thoughts." Ra In slams her locker and glared at anyone who looked her way. She went for her classes and as expected, Jemma was flirting with Chanyeol. Her embarrassingly high tone voice was lowkey pissing everyone off but no one said a word or paid any attention to her, except the needy dudes drooling over her.

The bell rang and the homeroom teacher stepped in and gave announcements before leaving. Ra In stared blankly out of the window. Suddenly a girl stood beside her and leaned forward, as if inspecting her face.

"Yoo Ra In? Hi! My name's Hyoyeon." The girl smiled as she read the name tag. Ra In scooted far backwards.

"I've been in this class the whole year but I didn't even notice you." She laughed at her own words. This only made Ra In more uncomfortable.

"Yah! Hyoyeon! Get away from her! She's the alien!" Luhan's voice rang.

"Alien? What alien? That would be nice." And so Hyoyeon started speaking 'alien language' which only made Luhan shriek at her attempt of communicating with Ra In.

"I can read your mind Hyoyeon-ssi. 'Omg she's an alien? What do I do? Will she bring her family and invade us?'" All colour drained from Hyoyeon's face as she went crying into the arms of Sooyoung.

"After one whole year you still didn't learn. You're just like Dory in Finding Dory." Sooyoung sighed, giving her pathetic pats on the shoulder in mock comfort.

"Yoo Ra In. You are called to the Vice Principal's office!" A school staff called out, trying not to make eye contact with her. Wordlessly, Ra In followed and when they arrived, the staff knocked on the door and they were granted the permission to enter.

"How are you doing, Yoo Ra In?" The Vice Principal smiled with her hands below her chin.
