Chapter 1 - Abnormality
Life hasn't always been easy for Ra In. Well, it wasn't easy at all.
"Yah! You piece of trash! Get lost! You don't fit here with your stupid crazy ability." The kids at the orphanage often called her names for her weird ability to read minds by looking into people's eyes.
"Yeah! Get lost! You're not welcomed! No wonder your mother abandoned you because you have that weird ability." A kid stuck his tongue out at her.
Ra In felt like she was about to breakdown and burst into tears. She just want to make friends. She was encouraged by the owner of the orphanage to socialize but it was tough for her to.
She never thought the ability as a blessing.
She wanted it to disappear.
Every morning after she wakes up she wants to believe that the ability is gone.
But the moment she looks at one boy in the eye, she could read everything in his mind.
Then she'll start to be afraid.
Or in the worst times, blurt out whatever she read.
Everytime she does that, people mistook the words for hers, when in actual fact it isn't.
"I just want to be normal." Was what she told God, but God didn't seem to want to listen to her plea.
At the age of seven, she was abandoned by her mom after her mom found out about her ability and thought her daughter was a monster. A monster that could read minds effortlessly.
A monster.
Ever since the reason of her being abandoned spread through the entire orphanage, people started to avoid her, dared not to look at her eyes to prevent from being read, the children mistreated her, for she is a human being with powers.
"I'm just a monster everyone despises." She would cry every night alone curled up into a ball, brainwashing herself that she is a monster, a scary one.
Now the 14 year old girl became a reserved girl who barely talked. Well, she barely talked from the start. She observes people with those cold eyes of hers. She reads their minds. People now are frightened of her, because of her cold demeanor.
One day, a gang of kids of the same age as her ganged up on her in a quiet corner of the orphanage.
"You'd think we are scared of you, huh? You're just a monster. You like reading minds huh? Who do you think you are? I think you're just a can picked up from the bin, dirty and smelly." The leader laughed, the others followed suit.
"Hit her." The moment the leader gave the cue, they threw eggs and flour at her. The poor girl had nothing to shield her. Just then came someone who blocked her and got hit in her stead.
"C-Chany-" Before the girls could say his name, the guy sent off a warning glare.
"Hurt her, you'll get it from me."
"S-sorry!" They bowed and then got on their knees.
"Not to me, but to her. You do know I have been watching you since the day Ra In joined the orphanage. I must say your behaviour is not tolerable and I shall report this to the Mrs Lee."
Mrs Lee was the so-called "discipline master" in the orphanage.
"Please! Let us go! Don't report it to her. We'll all die if she finds out." One girl pleaded.
"Nahh... I won't be so lenient." He carried Ra In who was sobbing behind him bridal style to her room. On the way, they passed by Mrs Lee.
"Oh my, what happened?" She gasped at what a mess Ra In was.
"The usual girls did this. I'll just bring her to her room to wash up and rest." The kind gentleman bowed before walking on.
He slowly let her down as her two feet touch the ground.
"Now wash up. Be careful. I'll be outside here to wait for you." He smiled and passed her a new set of clothes.
She bowed in thanks before shakily going into the bathroom. When she came out, he was still there, reading a book of poems.
"Thanks..." She whispered softly, but he heard it thanks to his big ears and was happy to hear it from her.
"You're welcome. Now let me dry your hair for you?" He offered as he closed the book.
"I-it's okay.. I-it's f-fine *sneeze*" she wrapped the towel tighter around her.
"C'mon if you don't dry it faster you might catch a cold." He took the towel from her and gently dried her hair for her.
When he was done, she muttered another thanks.
"Glad to be of help. You owe me one." He gave his signature smile. She just looked at him confused.
"Treat me lunch in the future." He smiled wider before waving to her, leaving her to ponder in her own world.
'What was that...' She thought.
