Y/N's P.O.V

By the time we made it back to Sonic and Tails' house, I was still thinking about so many things. My parents, the house, and so many other things. It was a bit overwhelming.

Sonic set me down and we both went to check on Tails. We entered the workshop and saw that the portal was almost complete. Tails saw us walk in and smiled. "Hey, guys. Do you need something?" Tails asked. "We just came to check on you, buddy." Sonic said with a smile. "Well, the portal is almost finished. It should be finished by tomorrow, then you can go home Y/N." Tails said. "That's great Tails." I said, smiling. Even though I was smiling, I didn't really feel happy. I didn't know why I wasn't happy, but I didn't say anything.

Sonic and I went to the living room and played one more racing game. He would still beat me no matter how hard I tried. He still ended up taking first place in each race. Until, the unthinkable happened. I had finally beat Sonic in a race. I didn't know if it was skill or pure luck, but I was ecstatic. "Finally! I beat you!" I said, throwing my arms up in victory. Sonic chuckled at my reaction. "Good job Y/N. You've come a long way." Sonic said while giving me a thumbs up and a smile. I smiled back after calming down. We continued to play until it was already the end of the day.

We all headed to our rooms, telling each other goodnight before heading off to bed. I laid down in bed and closed my eyes, but never fully rest. I kept on thinking about the portal and about leaving this place. Why am I not happy about this? I should be happy, right? I wanted this from the beginning. Or is this something that I don't want? I can't stay here. It's too dangerous for me. But I do want to stay here. Why is this so hard!? I got up from my bed, put on my jacket, and went outside to clear my mind. I walked out the front door and sat on the front porch the house had. I sat there for a while, only thinking of one question. Should I stay, or should I go?

I didn't know how long I was out there alone, but it must've been a while. I even started to hum Dear My Friend. I know I've hummed this song before, but it was a good song. I soon stopped when I heard the front door open. I looked and saw Sonic walking towards me. "Couldn't sleep?" Sonic asked. "Yeah..." I answered. "Same here." Sonic said as he sat down next to me. It was silent for a moment before Sonic spoke. "Been thinking about tomorrow?" He asked me. I nodded my head. He sighed. "I guess it's just a lot to take in. Especially after everything you've been through." Sonic said. I nodded my head again. "Yeah. It is." I said. Sonic nodded before deciding to change the subject. "That song that you were humming sounded great. Can you sing it?" Sonic asked. I was a bit surprised to hear this, but it was my last day here. I mind as well do it now. "Alright." I said. I cleared my throat and started to sing.

I stopped singing and looked at Sonic. He looked astonished. He knew I was good at humming, but he never knew I was good at singing. He soon smiled. "Wow! You're good at singing!" Sonic said. I scratched the back of my head in embarrassment and smiled. "Thanks. Like I said before, I sing in the shower a lot." I said. "Well, it certainly payed off." Sonic said while giving me a thumbs up. I smiled more before getting up. "I guess we should head back to bed." I said. Sonic nodded and got up. "Yeah, we should. We don't want you half asleep when you return home." Sonic said. "Yeah." I said as we went inside.

We said our goodnights before heading to bed. I laid there and started to think. Home... did my aunt even noticed that I was gone? Is anyone even wondering where I am? Did time even pass by over there? I thought more about this before making my decision. I closed my eyes and went to sleep, content on the decision I was going to make the next day.

The sun rose the next day. I woke up peacefully, only to realize that it was my final day on this planet. I got up, feeling a bit sad, but then remembered the decision I planned to do. I smiled as I got ready.

When I was done getting ready, I left the room and went downstairs. While going down the stairs, I heard some noises in the kitchen. I went in the kitchen to find Sonic and Tails preparing breakfast. Both looked in my direction and smiled. "Morning Y/N!" They both said to me. I smiled and waved at them. "Morning guys." I said. "I hope you don't mind us making pancakes for breakfast." Tails said. "It's okay. I don't mind." I said as I took a seat. After a minute, the pancakes were ready and we all started eating. We didn't say anything to each other, but the atmosphere around us had a bittersweet feeling.

After breakfast, we made our way to the workshop. The portal was there, waiting to be turned on. "Thanks to the Chaos Emeralds, this portal will send you home and will not explode this time." Tails said as he went over to the portal. He pulled a switch that was next to the portal and the portal turned on. "All you have to do is walk through the portal and you'll be home." Tails said as he walked back to Sonic and I. I took a step forward and looked at the portal. My only way home. I turned around to look at Sonic and Tails. "We'll miss you, Y/N." Sonic said. I smiled. "I'll miss you too, Sonic. You too, Tails." I said. They both smiled, but I could see a hint of sadness in their eyes. I turned back around and smiled more. "But..." I walked over to the switch next to the portal and pulled it, causing the portal to turn off. Sonic and Tails both stared at me in shock. I turned to them, still smiling. "I'm staying here." I said.

They still stared in shock. "Y/N... are you sure you want to stay here?" Sonic asked. "What about your home?" Tails asked. "I'm positive, and this is my home. Home is a place where you'll always feel welcomed. Home is a place where people close to you care about you. Home is where you feel like you're part of a family, and I get all of that here. My aunt probably hasn't even noticed that I'm gone. Even if she did, she wouldn't go looking for me. I belong here, with you guys. There's too much potential here for me to ignore. This is my start, and the possibilities are never ending here." I said. They both soon smiled and hugged me. I gladly hugged back. "If that's the case, then welcome home." Sonic said. I smiled as we all hugged for a little longer.

As we walked out of the workshop, a song suddenly popped into my head. It was a song that seems to perfectly represent this adventure that I've experienced with Sonic and Tails. I would tell them this song later down the line, but I let the song play in my head. I guess this is a good way to have this adventure come to a close.
