Chapter 1

The sun was burning my back, and the worst part is that my mom forgot the aloe-Vera for sunburns, and sunscreen. This day already started off bad, what can happen next?

Down here in Miami it's always beach time. In summer, it's melting hot, even frying an egg was easy under the sun. Winter is cool. It's nice and breezy, usually a little chilly, but it feels so, fresh.

"Emily! Get in the water already!" My mom shouted from the water. I already went in, and hit the waves with a float. I sat down in the shallow water, and tried to catch fish! I almost caught one. Almost. I was way too tired to get back in.

My mom just loves it when I try new things. She encourages me to do stuff I haven't done, like skii and other sports. It's cool that I have a supportive mother, but sometimes, it's tiring to have someone push you to do other things.

She keeps on waving we over to get in the water but I just can't.

A red volley ball hits me smack on the leg. Now I'm getting hit by a ball? I look over and see some guys near a volley ball net. The ball might even be theirs.

"Sorry bout' that!" One of them ran over to me. I sat up and grabbed the ball.

He stood tall, very slim. His hair was a brown curly mess, but it was cute. His face was slim, his jawline was sleek, yet that butt-chin perfected it. His green sparkling eyes had met with my blue eyes.

"Nah it's cool. Here." I handed him the ball.

"Oh thanks." He gave a soft smile. He ran back to his crowd. I stared at them for a moment, noticing that they were all glancing over at me. Guys play too much. I layed back down on my towel and checked Instagram.

"Hey! Remember me?" I tilted my head to the side and saw a slim figure. I sat up. I looked up and it was the same guy that came to get the volley ball.

"Yes. Your the one that threw the ball over here?"

"I didn't exactly throw it. You see what had happened was that-"

I cut him off. No need for an excuse. "Just playing. What's up?"

"The sky?"

"I know that dumbo I wasn't born yesterday. Now why did you come up to me?" I'm horrible at starting convos and asking questions. That's why my mom always tells me to talk to people, and to stop being an introvert.

"Oh right." He did a small flex by scratching the back of his neck. "Wanna play volleyball with us?"

I suck at volleyball. "Do I have to be good to play?"

"Nah. We all suck anyways." I giggled.

"Fine, I give in. I'll go play."

"Great!" He reached out his hand to help me get up. Really needed that, pal.

"So, what's your name?" He asked while on the way to the volleyball group.

"Emily. Yours?"

"Scott." He gave me a small smile and continued looking at the group.

We finally got there, and everyone looked at me up and down. Trust me when I say this, I'm not good looking. I do have my insecurities, but seriously, no need to observe me.

"Oooo who do we have here!" One guy leaned on a pole sticking up from the sand holding the net. He licked his lips and stared at me. Everyone gathered around me and Scott. So weird, why did I even come here?

"Jake, stop." Scott said behind me.  I turned my head and gave him an uncomfortable smile.

'Jake' , who was trying to flirt with me, gave up and turned around, releasing a heavy sigh.

Sorry! But you can't get none of this.

"Alright! Let's play!" One guy yelled and everyone got into their positions.

I stood right beside Scott Infront of the net, playing first row.

"Serving!" A guy yelled out and served the ball to our side. The ball flew over my head, and over to the other side it went again. It flew over to Scott, and he hit it to the other side. Before I knew it, the ball was coming down close to the net, I could try to spike it...

I jumped up and slapped it down, making me fall in the sand. Everyone on our side cheered, and came up to me.

"Dang girl you got some skills!" One whistled.

"That was an awesome spike!" Scott said, coming to help me up.
I smiled and got back in my position. I looked through the net and met eyes with the guy Infront of me. He gave me a mad/playful look, yet winked. I rolled my eyes and saw the ball go up in the air again.

                         <---{

"Thanks for playing with us emily, It was fun!" Scott held the ball in his hands.

"Yeah no problem! Anytime." I smiled.

He stared at me for a while, just randomly. Is he seriously checking me out?

"Umm so I'll see you around?" I broke the tension.

"Yeah sure."

He's acting weird. This isn't the Scott I met earlier. I turned on my heel and headed back to my towel.

"Wait!" I heard him yell. I smiled at the thought that he didn't want me to leave yet. I turned on my heel and was face to face with him. We were so close, about 3 inches away. My heart raced, as he just searched for my eyes.

"Can I get your number?" He asked.

"Yeah sure, let me get my phone. Come." I pointed over to my towel and invited him over. We walked over, and I just felt his eyes stare right at me. I reached over in my bag and grabbed out my phone.

"The number is." And he gave me his number.

"Ok thanks!" I said, grinning. He smiled back.

"So I'll see you around?" He asked, placing his hand behind his neck.

"Yeah, totally." I nodded, and he walked off. I watched him walk back to his group that was packing away the net. I saw him look back at me, and smile.

                       }---->

"I'll have a water please." I smiled at the waiter as she wrote down my order.

"Same for me." My mom smiled at her as she nodded and went to go get the waters.

I stared at the menu. There was so much to choose from. I'm not the one to eat a lot. I don't eat full meals, I guess it means I have a small stomach. I would usually just eat a small bowl of salad and think I ate super healthy. But instead of stopping, I would usually grab a bag of chips or a whole package of Oreos and eat it all. Yep, there's my fat butt hogging up on junk food. I never got fatter though, and all my mom would always complain about it.

My eyes desperately searched for something to eat.
Today's special:
-White rise with refried beans. Comes with a salad on the side...14.99
  -BBQ rack ribs... 20.45
-Charlotte burger; a meat patty covered in bacon, served with fried onion, lettuce, tomato, and pickles...16.99

I was really annoyed that I couldn't decide. The ribs were expensive, and I really didn't read the rest of the menu throughly.

I raised my read over my menu. "Wanna share a rack of ribs?"

I waited for my mom to look over at me and answer. I put my menu and sighed.

"I mean, like we don't have all night to chose. It's probably the only thing that looks good. And expensive." I giggled.

"Are you sure you are going to want to eat that?" My mom asked.

"As long as I don't get a beer." I smiled.

"Ok, that's fine. But I chose the dessert." She smiled. I nodded and sat back in my chair, looked out the window and gave a small sigh.

"So, that guy you met, he cute?"
I looked over to her.
"What guy?" I met a guy today?
"Oh common, you know what I'm talking about. The guy that 'threw' the ball over to you so you could play volley ball with them."

She was looking at me the whole time?

"Look I'm sorry I didn't go in the water and instead go play volley ball. I'm very sorry." I sighed.
"No Hun it's ok. I was playing around with a little girl and her mom. I think a made a new friend!" She exclaimed and I giggled.

"New friend huh? Guess we both made friends today. But seriously, he wanted me to play on his team so I did." I smiled.

"Just want you to be careful." She seriously did not just say that. I'm 22! I'm a grown woman. I can take care of myself. But I'm not going to complain about someone caring so much about me.

"But mom, this might be my only chance! And I feel ready. And the last one wasn't even a relationship. And you know it." I scoffed. "Heck, I didn't even know him either!"

"Ok maybe your right, but still, Be careful. Can't lose you and have that incident again." I nodded. She's trying to make me realize I have so much more to live for instead to live for a guy.

"Ok here you go guys..." The waiter came over and put our drinks down. "You ready to order?"

"Yes.. We will share the bbq rack ribs, and a side of fries." I nodded over to my mom.

"Would you like to put your order in for dessert now or later?" The waiter asked as she wrote down our order.

"Later would be great" I smiled and handed her our menus to take. She nodded and left.

                     <----{

"Thanks! Have a nice day!" I handed her back the bill. I nodded at my mom and we both got up from our seats. We quickly walked out passing a crowd of what seemed like hookers. Why would they waste their lives on that crap and mess?

I hopped into the car and closed the door. My mom did the same. I put the key in and started the car, backing out of the parking space.
