Summer's Pov

I wake up in my dress from last night. What happened? I was still in the guest room. I look at the time. It was 6am. Today is Tuesday so school. Yay. I'm being Sarcastic. I get up and go straight to the bathroom. I take a shower and get dressed.

I put my hair into a ponytail and go downstairs still confused. No one was there. What's going on? I see a note on the fridge door. I take it down and read it.

Hi Sum. We went to school early for a reason we can't tell you. But by the time you read this you should be going. Bye see ya at school.

My eyes widen. I grab my backpack and Penny board. I run out the door and skate to school. I run through the school doors to my locker. I throw my stuff inside and try to rush to the classroom when I run into someone. I fall to the ground. I actually really needed to breathe and this gave me a chance. I calm my breathing down and finally open my eyes. It was Mr.Finn. He reaches out his hand and helps me up.

S- Sorry Mr.Finn.
MF- It's ok Summer. And nice rocker look.
S- What- Oh nevermind.
MF- You need to get to class now.
S- Aren't you coming?
MF- Yes. But a important announcement for our class is going to be said in like 30 seconds and we have to be there.

I nod and we both start running to the classroom. We burst inside but also manage to fall on the floor. Two times in a day. I think I'm starting to become clumsy. The PA system goes off.

PA- ATTENTION MR.FINNS CLASS AND MS.LENYAS CLASS. THIS IS AN IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT. FOR THE NEXT WEEK YOU WILL BE IN WASHINGTON DC FOR A KNOWLEDGE ADVENTURE. ALSO A KNOWLEDGE SCAVENGER HUNT. THE WINNING CLASS GETS TO GO TO THE WHITE HOUSE. THANK YOU AND HAVE A GREAT FIELD TRIP.

My heart stops and I stop breathing. I feel like I'm gonna die. This can not be happening. I know the chance of us winning the scavenger hunt is very unlikely but it's still Washington DC. The place where my mom and dad are. Oh I think I'm gonna die.

T- Summer are you gonna stay on the floor forever or what?
I sigh and stand up.
T- I really thought you were over this.
S- What?
T- Summer when are you going to go back to well Summer. This isn't you.
S- What are you talking about?
T- Your clothes and your hair and your attitude.
S- Tomika I'm just experimenting. Is that ok with you?
T- No it's really not. I want my best friend back. And you aren't her.
S- TOMIKA JUST BECAUSE I CHANGE MY HAIR AND CLOTHES DOESN'T MEAN I HAVE CHANGED. I'M STILL THE SAME SUMMER.
T- Are you really sure about that? Because the real Summer wouldn't yell at me.
S- YOU KNOW WHAT. FINE. I AM NOT GOING TO FIGHT WITH YOU AND WHEN YOU STOP ACTING LIKE A OVERPROTECTIVE MOTHER THEN I'LL BE  YOUR FRIEND AGAIN BUT RIGHT NOW WE'RE OVER.

I walk to my seat and sit down. That was one of the worst things I ever did. I am over it. I just want to experiment and try new things. What's so wrong with that? She is honestly acting like my mother. I need a friend not another overprotective mother.

T- I can't do this. Sum I'm sorry. I hate when we fight and I do understand. I also really don't wanna go on a field trip during a fight with my friend who is also most likely to be my hotel room buddy. So I'm sorry. Am I forgiven?

S- You're forgiven. But is Principal Mullins really being serious about this whole field trip. It doesn't seem like her.
MF- Oh it isn't. Principal Mullins is at her father's funeral for the next month.
T- A whole month?
MF- I think she needs time to heal.
S- Right...
MF- Who is Ms.Lenya?
Z- The teacher who you steal lunch from.
MF- Oh... She's nice.
T- Wait aren't Kale,Esme,and Asher in her class?
S- Yes...
T- AWESOME.
Z- We have to win that scavenger hunt though. IF I WANT TO BE A FUTURE PRESIDENT I GOTTA KNOW WHAT MY FUTURE HOME WILL LOOK LIKE.
T- You become president? That's the funniest thing I've heard today and I heard Lawrence say he was sane.
S- But what about Ivy?
F- Sum did you forget? My mom is coming back this week.
S- Right...

That was literally my only excuse out of this mess.
MF- We leave tomorrow.
T- Wait seriously?
MF- Yep. You guys get here at 6am. We get on a bus to the airport and then we get to Washington DC and then we go to the hotel and that's it for the day.
T- 6AM?
MF- Yes 6am. I'm not that excited either.
  *Bell rings*
MF- Go to lunch and come back with smiles on your faces. Well actually just Summer.

We all get up and go to lunch. They all get their lunch while I just sit at the table. I'm too confused and worried to eat. They all sit down and look at me worriedly.

T- Are you sure you're ok? You aren't eating.
S- I'm fine really.
Z- So what do you guys think will happen on this field trip? Other than winning that scavenger hunt.
S- Do we really need to win the scavenger hunt? I mean it's the fun that counts.
They all gasp and stand up.
S- What?
F- The Summer we know is usually really competitive especially when it comes to school. Where is our Summer? What did you do to her?
S- Nothing. I mean if we're worried about the scavenger hunt the whole time we'll miss all the other fun things.
Z- You do understand that scavenger hunt is the beginning of my whole life Summer. If you're a good friend you'll do this for me.
S- Fine. I'll help.
Z- Thank you thank you.

They all start talking about it but I just blur it out. What am I going to do? Lunch finally ends and we go back to class. I walk in with a fake smile on my face.

MF- There you go Summer. But this Field trip is going to be amazing. Oh I finally get to ride a plane.
T- Why are we taking a plane instead of a bus?
MF- I practically begged them and also because supposedly Ms.Lenya has a phobia of being in crowded sweaty places for that long. Now let's get to rehearsing. I know we're used to Tomika singing but I want to try a male singer for once. Freddy?
F- Wait seriously?
MF- No.
F- Aw man.
MF- I'm joking. Yes you get to sing but a girl chooses the song. Tomika?
T- Uh Keep your head up by Andy Grammar.
L- Oh no Andy's coming.
T- THIS IS WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT. HE IS NOT SANE.
Z- Can we just get to the song?
T- But we don't exactly know the cords.
Z- So look them up online.
T- Right...
*Bell Rings*
T- Nevermind then.
MF- Ok. You guys be here by 6am with all your junk. See you guys tomorrow.

We walk out the classroom. I go to my locker and grab my backpack and Penny board.
F- Summer?
S- Yes.
F- Uh Ivy wants to say goodbye before you leave.
S- Does she think I'm leaving forever?
F- Well no.
S- Ok. I'll say goodbye. I have to get my stuff anyways.
F- Right. It's going to be weird without you there.
S- I've only been there a week. Not years.
F- I know but still.
S- I'm just next door.
F- I know.
S- And you'll see me a lot because we're going on a field trip.
F- Again I know.
S- Ok.

We start walking to his house. What was his problem? He's acting like I'm leaving and never coming back. We get to his house. We walk inside and see his mom there.

FM- HI GUYS.
She runs up and hugs us both. She pulls away and I see Ivy crying.

FM- Thank you so much Summer.
S- It was no problem. It was fun.
F- Oh yeah. I'm leaving.
FM- I always knew this day would come. Mijo you can't leave until your 18. That's the law.
F- I meant on a field trip mom.
FM- Oh well ok. Summer are you going?
S- Yes.
FM- Ok. How long is it?
F- A whole week in DC.
FM- Seriously? Well I hope you guys have a great time.
I- You're all leaving me.
F- Ivy it's just for a week and mom is here.
I- It's not the same.
F- We'll be back before you know it.
I- That's what they all say.
F- Mom are sure she is related to me?
FM- Uh yes. I gave birth to her. You were there.
F- That is so hard to believe. Can I see the birth certificate?
FM- Why are you questioning Ivy?
F- She acts and looks like Tomika mom.
Then Tomika burst through the door.
T- Sorry to interrupt but I put something in Summer's backpack and I need it.
We look at Ivy and then back at Tomika.
FM- You know what? I kinda see it.

Tomika starts rummaging through my backpack. She pulls out her phone and leaves. Does this girl leave her phone everywhere except with her?

S- Anyways I have to go upstairs and get my stuff.
I- DON'T LEAVE ME SUMMY. DON'T LEAVE ME WITH HIM.
F- HEY?

I just giggle and go upstairs. I grab my bag and head downstairs.

FM- Thank you Summer. We'll see you later.
S- Yep. I'm just next door.
Ivy runs up and hugs me.
I- Don't leave me.
S- I'm next door.
I- It's not the same.
S- Do you want to come over right now?
I- Yes please.
FM- It's ok with me.
F- Bye Sum see you tomorrow.
S- More like later today because I have to bring Ivy back.
F- Right.
S-Let's go Ivy.
We walk to my house. I drop my stuff inside and look at Ivy.

S- What do you wanna do?
I- Make cookies.
S- Ok.
I- Can we have Tomika and Freddy help?
S- We just left your house.
I- So?
S- Ok. You get Freddy and I'll get Tomika.
T- Why I'm already here.
S- I need to take the key back that I gave you.
T- No you don't. Now come on Ivy let's go get Freddy.

Ivy jumps on Tomika's back and they leave. They are so much a like. I head to the kitchen and grab the ingredients. I would like to change but there isn't time. I hear the door slam open and Freddy screaming at Tomika and Ivy. They come in the kitchen.

T- We captured a wild Freddy in it's original habitat.
F- Why am I here?
I- COOKIES.
S- Ivy wanted you to come help us make cookies.
F- Seriously?
S- Yes.
T- Let's do this. First we mix dry ingredients and then wet and then we mix them all together. We put them in the oven let them cool and then perfection. Me and Ivy will do dry ingredients. While you two do wet ingredients.
S- Ok.

I grab the wet ingredients and take them to the other counter with Freddy follows behind me. I lay them out.

F- Ok which one is first.
S- Eggs. We need two.
He grabs two eggs and cracks them on the bowl.
F- Next.
S- Vanilla. One teaspoon.
He puts the vanilla in the bowl.
S- Ok that's it.

I start stirring the ingredients up. I was too focused to notice Freddy at all. I then feel a egg being cracked on my head. I scream and close my mouth immediately so it doesn't get in my mouth. I look over and see Tomika laughing her head off and Ivy too. Freddy was just standing there but nothing in his hands. I look at Tomika and see her hand covered in yolk.

S- TOMIKA.
T- I'm sorry. I couldn't help it.
S- That's it.

I grab the bag of floor and pour it over her head. She gasp. She then grabs the milk and pours it on me. She laughs even harder. I was about to pick something else up but I hear the door open. I wasn't worried cause it could be Zack or Lawrence. Man I really should stop giving keys to people. Then I see Zack.

Z- What is going on?
T- Food fight. Wanna join?
Z- Nope I'm good.
S- What're you doing here?
Z- Looking for Freddy because his mom told me he would be here.

I look for a towel. I find one and wipe my face off. The kitchen was a giant mess. Great now I have to clean it up. I guess I could call our housekeeper. I grab the bowl of dry ingredients and mix it in with wet ones. I then put the cookies on a cookie sheet and put them in the oven. Good that's done with.

T- I'm going to go to my house and clean up.
S- I'm going upstairs.

I go upstairs and take a shower. I change into something comfortable.

I go back downstairs and get the cookies out of the oven. I put them on the counter to cool off. The boys and Ivy look at me weirdly.

S- What?
Z- Nothing...
S- Ok.
Tomika comes back in and spots the cookies. I try to stop her before she grabs one but she ignores me. She yelps and drops it.

T- OW. SUMMER WHY DIDN'T YOU WARN ME?
S- I did.
T- Oh.

After 5 minutes they're finally able to be eaten. She starts eating them. Freddy's phone rings and he sighs.

F- Me and Ivy have to go. I'll see you guys tomorrow.
Z- Yeah I gotta go too.
T- Me as well. I need my sleep. I have to get up at 6am.
S- Bye.

They all leave and I sigh. I clean up the cookie diaster and go to my room. I pack my suitcase and backpack and go to sleep.

*Morning*
I wake up to someone screaming in my ear. I scream and fall of my bed.
T- Get up and get ready. We have to go.
S- How did you get in?
T- You gave me a key.
S- I need to take it back.

T- Go get ready.

I nod and walk towards the bathroom. I take a shower and get dressed.

I exit the bathroom and grab my suitcase and backpack. Me and Tomika go downstairs to see the boys there. I need to take back all the keys.

T- When did you guys get here?
Z- 5 minutes ago.
S- Well let's go.

They nod and grab their stuff. We head out the door and to school. When we get there. No one is outside. We go inside and people from our class and Ms.Lenyas class are standing everywhere and about to fall asleep. Mr.Finn fell asleep on the floor. I walk up to him and wake him up. He wakes up screaming which has me jump away.

MF- Oh hey guys.
T- Hi.
MF- We leave in 10 minutes. Which they told me 10 minutes ago. So they'll come here in a few seconds.

Ms.Lenya approaches us and says it's time to go. Each class gets on a separate bus. We get to the airport. We got our tickets and now we're waiting at the gate.

T- I sit at seat 3b.
S- I got 2a.
Z- I am seat 3a.
L- I sit in seat 3c.
F- 2b
MF- I have 2c.

The flight attendant says we can board. We get on the plane. Most of the time I was looking out the window until I finally fell asleep.
*In DC on the bus*

We just got off the plane and now are on the bus to our hotel. It was a beautiful hotel.

We go inside and Tomika was right. I do share a room with her. The boys were in the room beside us. I go over to the bed close to the window. I pick that as mine and start unpacking. By the time I'm done it's 7pm. Tomika left a while ago. She went to the café downstairs. I take a shower and get ready for bed.

I leave my hair in it's natural state. I put on my headphones and listen to Don't tell me by Ruel. I grab my room key and go downstairs. I go to the café and get a sandwich. I see Tomika at a table eating by herself. I walk up to the table and sit down.

S- Why are you still down here? You left like 3 hours ago.
T- Oh yeah. I went to the boy's room first and then came here. I've only been here for 30 minutes.
S- That's still an excessive amount of time.
T- Well sorry.
S- I'm going back up to the room.
T- Ok I'll be there is five.
S- Yeah Yeah.

I put my headphones back on and leave. I was so lost in thought that I didn't notice the person in front of me. I was about to fall but they catch me. I look up. It was Asher. He sets me back in a standing position.

S- Thanks Asher.
A- You're welcome. Look Summer there's something I want to tell you.
S- Sure Asher.
A- I have had a crush on you for a while now. Since last year and I just thought it was time to finally tell you.
S- Asher I'm flattered. But-
A- I knew it. You wouldn't feel the same way. I mean you have almost every boy falling for you.
S- Uh. Yeah. I don't feel the same way but it-
A- You're dating someone else aren't you? I-
S- ASHER.
A- Yes.
S- It's not because I'm dating someone else. It's because I don't want to be in a relationship. Not now. Seriously though I am flattered but I'm not looking for a relationship anytime soon.
A- Then tell everyone else that. And you might want to tell Freddy to stop saying your dating someone.

With that he leaves me there in utter shock. I walk up to the boy's room and knock on the door. Zack answers it.

Z- Sum?
S- I need to talk to Freddy. Now.
Z- Ok. I would let you in but this room is a hurricane right now.
S- I really don't care.

I shove him out of the day and walk in. And he was right. Clothes were all over the place and Lawrence was hanging off the bed. Freddy comes out the bathroom with a towel wrapped around his waist. I cross my arms.

L- Summer?
F- SUMMER?!

They both look at me. Freddy tries to run back into the bathroom.

S- I need to talk to you. Now.
F- Right now is seriously not the best time.
S- I don't care. Why are you telling people I'm dating someone?
F- O...oh. You found out about that?
S- Yeah from Asher.
F- (growls) Why Asher?
S- He asked me out. And then told me.
Z- I told you that was a bad call dude.
F- Shut up Zack.
Z- Fine I'm not wanted. Come on Lawrence. We'll go talk to Tomika.
S- She's at the café.

They nod and leave. I turn back to Freddy who is standing in the same position I am. Arms crossed and looking straight at another.

F- I did it for you. To stop people like Asher to stop asking.
S- Oh so you did this recently?
Z- (walks in) Tomika just threw a spoon at me. I'm staying up here.
F- Well not exactly.
S- When did you tell people that?
Z- Tell people what?
S- That I was dating someone to make boys stop asking to go out with me.
Z- Oh he did that 5 months ago. Like in May before school ended for summer break.
S- WHAT?
F- I was getting sick of it. Ok.
S- You got sick of it? Why would you get sick of it?
F- I hated people coming up to you and asking. I don't know why. I just did. So I made it up that you were dating someone named Ryan Lux. Ok I'm sorry.
S- I can't believe you.
F- WHY ARE YOU MAD AT ME? YOU WEREN'T BOTHERED ANYMORE. ISN'T THAT A GOOD THING?
S- YOU WENT BEHIND MY BACK AND MADE UP A LIE ABOUT ME. NO I'M NOT HAPPY. I WOULD RATHER HAVE GUYS KEEP ASKING ME THEN HAVE A WHOLE GIANT LIE ON MY NAME CAUSED BY YOU.

F- SUM. I WAS TRYING TO BE A GOOD FRIEND.
S- NO YOU WEREN'T. FREDDY YOU PUT A LIE ON MY NAME.
F- TO PROTECT YOU.
S- FROM WHAT, GOING ON AN ACTUAL DATE WITH SOMEONE?
F- I DON'T KNOW OK.
S- Tell me when you find out. Till then don't talk to me.

I walk out and go back to my room. Tomika was in there on her bed. I lay down on mine. And close my eyes.

T- Well that was intense.
S- You heard it?

She gets up and knocks on the wall that connects with their room.

Z- WHAT TOMIKA?

She comes and sits back on her bed.

T- It's thin walling.
S- Hm.
T- Summer?
S- Yes.
T- I think Freddy was jealous.
S- Why would he be jealous? He doesn't like me. Never has. Never will.
T- Don't be so sure. Would it be a bad thing if he did?
S- I don't know.
T- I'm gonna go investigate.
S- Tomika no.
T- Bye Sum.

She heads out the door. Oh no. That's gonna go bad.

Tomika's Pov

I knock on the boy's door. Zack answers and I walk in. I spot Freddy on his bed looking at the ceiling. I walk over and poke him.

F- What?
T- Talk now.
F- About?
T- Why did you do that?
F- I don't know ok. I just hated it.
T- Hated what?
F- I hated that people would openly just ask her. I didn't like the fact that she could be here one second and gone the next.
T- What do you mean by that?
Z- He means that he didn't like that if she ever said yes she would leave him before he would even know it.
F- Leave us Zack. Leave us.
Z- You know that's not true. You were more worried about you.
F- No I wasn't. Why would I be?
Z- Maybe you might have feelings for her.
F- No. She's Summer Hathaway and I'm Fredrick Huerta. Neighbors and friends since kindergarten. I can't like Sum. I just can't.
T- So you like nothing about her?
F- If I didn't like anything about her I wouldn't be friends with her.
T- Ok so name the things you like about her.
F- I'm good.
T- Nope do it. Or I'm taking your room key. And I'll just bother you for the whole trip.
F- FINE.
T- Good.
F- I guess I like how careless she is. Well when she wants to be. One second she cares about every little thing people might think of her and then the next she doesn't.
T- Continue.
F- I like how oblivious she was about the whole situation. She was so focused on the band and us she didn't notice how obsessed people were with her.
T- Dig deeper.
F- I like how she is with Ivy. She treats her like her own little sister. Especially last week. When she's with Ivy she doesn't care at all and she's the funnest girl you'll ever meet.
T- Keep going.
F- I like how angelic her voice can sound when she sings or talks to Ivy.
T- More.
F- She's pretty. But last Friday I saw a Summer I've never seen before. A gorgeous Summer. Who was fun and careless. The Summer I've always loved. In a way. That is so amazing I could burst into flames. In a way. My heart stops.

My eyes widen and my jaw drops. I look at Zack and Lawrence they have the same expression. I was about to say something but he continues.

F- A Summer that no one else has ever seen and I don't want them to. A Summer that was specifically mine. That she only showed me. That Sum had a smile on her face that could make my heart beat so fast like it would never stop. Like it beated for her.
T- Freddy.
F- Yeah?
T- I think you love Summer.
F- Me. Love Summer. That's impossible.
T- Is it?
F- No. I think I've already fallen hard. You're right Tomika. I think I love Summer Hathaway.
