Nova's Heaven Debut
Author's Note:
As many of you have guess, this is will be Nova being in heaven. Don't worry. She isn't dead. She's just saying hi.
Also, since this is written in heaven, what's happening on earth will be in italics.
Nova dressed in her black leather jacket, skinny blue jeans, Gryffindor Quidditch Jumper (hoodie), and red converses appeared in front of Regulus.
"Oh hell nah!" He exclaimed as she appeared. He quickly knelt down next to her. "If she's dead, I'm killing Sirius."
"What's Padfoot have to do with anything?" James asked exasperatedly.
"I don't even need a reason to kill him. He's Sirius," Regulus shrugged.
Lily and James had just come back from the Prior Incantum spell, meaning Harry escaped with Nova and Cedric. The music had abruptly stopped. The moment Hermione realized who was on the ground with Harry and Cedric, she screamed bloody murder.
"That's my son!" Amos yelled, fighting his way to the front. "That's my boy!"
Remus pushed past everyone, Padfoot following behind him. Both too shocked.
Nova groaned on the floor. Lily with her red hair in a messy bun, knelt next to her. She shook her slightly, trying to wake the young teenager.
"Ronnikins, I swear to Merlin if you don't stop poking me, I'm going to throw crispy chicken nuggets at your arse," Nova growled before curling in on herself to go back to sleep.
James, Regulus, and Marlene held back their laughs. James was turning purple with effort.
"Nova . . ." Lily called in a soft voice. "Nova . . .it's time to wake up . . ."
"Bruh, Imma fucking bark at you," Nova groaned.
James couldn't help it anymore. He burst into laughter. Nova cracked an eye open to look at him, similar to what Remus does.
"Damn, Har, when did you get so old?" Nova asked.
James let out an offended gasp.
"I'm not old!"
"You sound like Dadfoot when I say he ate too many donuts," Nova laughed, finally sitting up. She looked around, her smile slowly fading. "Wait a damn minute!"
Nova remembered everything. It came back to her in flashes. The Triwizard Tournament. The maze. Mad-Eye really being Barty Crouch Jr. The Graveyard. Cedric. Voldemort. Harry.
Mad-Eye was dragging Harry away.
"Oh hell nah!" Nova yelled at Crouch, sounding freakishly like her Uncle Reggie. "Nope! Get your filthy hands off him!"
"Nova," Lily said softly. "Look at me."
Nova turned to look at the mother of her best friend. Her eyes exactly the same as his. The same emerald green Nova adores.
"Am I dead?" Nova asked. No one answered. "Sweet. I always wanted to try being dead."
"You aren't dead," Marlene piped up. "I'm Marlene Mckinnon."
"I know who you are. You're Aunty Marls and Aunt Dorky," Nova told Marlene and Dorcus. She turned to Lily, Regulus, and James. "And you're Aunt Flower, Uncle Reggie, and Uncle Prongs. I may be Sirius Black's daughter, but I have my Pa's brain."
"You don't hate me?" Regulus asked.
"No. I read your diary." Nova shrugged. "I know what you did. I haven't told Da yet. He doesn't talk about you much. I only know who you guys are from letters and photos. I once found Da sobbing with Uncles Prongs's quidditch jumper in his hands. He pretended he wasn't crying. Pa becomes a walking zombie on your wedding day. Most likely the same for your birthdays and death days. But I wouldn't know, I'm never there for those."
"Nova, you aren't dead," Lily repeated. "Your mind was transported here so your body can heal. Because of your extra magic, you are able to do that after a near-death experience."
A light bulb appeared over Nova's head.
"Theoretically, since I'm dead, could I bring people back with me?" Nova asked.
"Nothing can bring back the dead," Regulus stated.
"But I have pure magic. It's a possibility." Nova assured. "The incantation would most likely be in Latin . . ." Nova paced the room, thinking aloud. "But then again, it doesn't have to be . . .I'll have to study the ways for the afterlife to work . . .possible . . .no that won't work . . ."
"Stop!" James yelled, resting a hand on each of Nova's shoulders. "You aren't bringing us back. We lived our lives. You're going back and you're going to live."
"But you didn't. You all died young." Nova objected.
"Our time is up," Dorcus said. "You need to go back."
"Oh look! Remmy launched Dumbledore!" Marlene said, pointing to the screen.
Remus, Sirius, and Harry all sat in Dumbledore's office. The moment Remus saw Dumbledore, he threw him across the room.
"You fucking bitch! She's dead!" He yelled. "You assured me there were extra measures being taken to ensure they wouldn't die!"
Blood ran from Dumbledore's nose.
Remus began to yell, Sirius made no move to stop him.
"Go, Pa!" Nova cheered. "I hate the old wanker."
"Nova," Regulus said. "You're going back. Alone."
"No." Nova crossed her arms.
"I wasn't asking," Regulus stated.
"And I'm not obeying, nor did I ask for your opinion," Nova stated stubbornly.
"She isn't dead," Dumbledore said getting to his feet. "Her mind transported her to the afterlife so her body could heal. It's her choice to come back. There is also the question is if she's strong enough."
"She has to come back!" Harry yelled, tears pooling in his eyes. "She can't die!"
"Why wouldn't she come back?" Sirius asked in a faint voice.
"She might find death is more relaxing than life," Dumbledore spoke, eyeing Remus warily.
"But she loves the thrill of adventures!" Harry objected stubbornly. "We wouldn't last without her!"
"See!" Regulus pointed to the screen. "You have to go back. Poor bloke is heartbroken."
Nova didn't say anything. Her heart was beating in her chest, a tell-tale sign of life, but this went unnoticed by Nova.
Harry loved her. She couldn't deny it. She wondered in what way. She knew she loved Harry differently than she loves Ron. She loves Harry differently than everyone other person in her life. He's different.
Nova thought about what dying meant.
She wouldn't get to see her dads. She wouldn't get to see her friends. She would leave her family.
But something hurt more than that.
The thought of leaving Harry. The thought of him moving. The thought of him loving anyone else.
Dying meant no Harry.
"But what about you?" Nova asked, tears pulling in her eyes.
"We'll be fine," James assured. "We've been here for the past fourteen years. We got used to it."
"B-but-" Nova began, her lip trembling. "I-i can find a way-"
"Nova," Dorcus began. "It's alright. We'll be fine."
"When Ced comes, please take care of him," Nova pleaded.
Little did she know, she would see Cedric again. But he wouldn't be the same as before.
"Alright," James nodded. "We have a few messages for everyone."
"Okay . . ." Nova trailed off. "What are they?"
"You might wanna write this down," Lily suggested.
Author's Note:
Nova is back to Earth. Italics are back to what is happening in Heaven, normal is what's happening on Earth.
Nova lay soundly on her hospital bed as Harry walked in with Snuffles.
"Harry! Oh, Harry!" Mrs. Weasley cried.
"Molly," he said, holding up a hand, "please listen to me for a moment. Harry has been through a terrible ordeal tonight. He has just had to relive it for me. What he needs now is sleep, and peace, and quiet. If he would like you all to stay with him," he added, looking around at Ron, Hermione, and Bill too, "you may do so. But I do not want you questioning him until he is ready to answer, and certainly not this evening."
Madam Pomfrey began to object at the fact there was a dog in her hospital, but Dumbledore stated he will remain.
"Where's Nova?" Harry spoke for the first time since entering the room.
Remus, who was at her bedside, pushed the curtain back for everyone to see. She lay on the bed, breathing shallowly. Snuffles jumped onto her bed, lying at her feet.
"Is she alright?" Hermione asked, tears falling down her face.
"Dumbledore says her mind is in the afterlife, but her soul isn't. It's her choice to return. It also depends on if she's strong enough," Remus stated in a faint and very distant voice.
Harry drank his potion and fell asleep.
***
Harry woke up, so warm, so very sleepy, that he didn't open his eyes, wanting to drop off again. The room was still dimly lit; he was sure it was still nighttime and had a feeling that he couldn't have been asleep very long. Then he heard whispering around him.
"They'll wake him if they don't shut up!"
"What are they shouting about? Nothing else can have happened, can it?"
Harry opened his eyes blearily. Someone had removed his glasses. He could see the fuzzy outlines of Mrs. Weasley and Bill close by. Mrs. Weasley was on her feet.
"That's Fudge's voice," she whispered. "And that's Minerva McGonagall's, isn't it? But what are they arguing about?"
Now Harry could hear them too: people shouting and running toward the hospital wing.
"Regrettable, but all the same, Minerva -" Cornelius Fudge was saying loudly.
"You should never have brought it inside the castle!" yelled Professor McGonagall. "WhenDumbledore finds out -"
Harry heard the hospital doors burst open. Unnoticed by any of the people around his bed, all of whom were staring at the door as Bill pulled back the screens, Harry sat up and put his glasses back on. Fudge came striding up the ward. Professors McGonagall and Snape were at his heels.
"Where's Dumbledore?" Fudge demanded of Mrs. Weasley.
Harry's eyes scanned the room. They fell upon Snuffles asleep at Nova's feet, and Remus sleeping in the chair. Nova looked as if she hadn't moved.
"He's not here," said Mrs. Weasley angrily. "This is a hospital wing. Minister, don't you think you'd do better to -"
But the door opened, and Dumbledore came sweeping up the ward.
"What has happened?" said Dumbledore sharply, looking from Fudge to Professor McGonagall. "Why are you disturbing these people? Minerva, I'm surprised at you - I asked you to stand guard over Barty Crouch -"
"There is no need to stand guard over him anymore, Dumbledore!" she shrieked. "The Minister has seen to that!"
Harry had never seen Professor McGonagall lose control like this. There were angry blotches of color in her cheeks, and hands were balled into fists; she was trembling with fury.-
"When we told Mr. Fudge that we had caught the Death Eater responsible for tonight's events," said Snape, in a low voice; he seemed to feel his personal safety was in question. "He insisted on summoning a dementor to accompany him into the castle. He brought it up to the office where Barty Crouch -"
"I told him you would not agree, Dumbledore!" McGonagall fumed. "I told him you would never allow dementors to set foot inside the castle, but -"
"My dear woman!" roared Fudge, who likewise looked angrier than Harry had ever seen him, "as Minister of Magic, it is my decision whether I wish to bring protection with me when interviewing a possibly dangerous -"
But Professor McGonagall's voice drowned Fudge's.
"The moment that - that thing entered the room," she screamed, pointing at Fudge, trembling all over, "it swooped down on Crouch and - and -"
Harry felt a chill in his stomach as Professor McGonagall struggled to find words to describe what had happened. He did not need her to finish her sentence. He knew what the dementor must have done. It had administered its fatal kiss to Barty Crouch. It had sucked his soul out through his mouth. He was worse than dead.
"By all accounts, he is no loss!" blustered Fudge. "It seems he has been responsible for several deaths."
"But he cannot now give testimony, Cornelius," said Dumbledore. He was staring hard atFudge, as though seeing him plainly for the first time. "He cannot give evidence about why he killed those people."
"Why he killed them? Well, that's no mystery, is it?" blustered Fudge. "He was a raving lunatic! From what Minerva and Severus have told me, he seems to have thought he was doing it all on You-Know-Who's instructions!"
"Lord Voldemort was giving him instructions, Cornelius," Dumbledore said. "Those people's deaths were mere by-products of a plan to restore Voldemort to full strength again. The plan succeeded. Voldemort has been restored to his body."
Fudge looked as though someone had just swung a heavy weight into his face. Dazed and blinking, he stared back at Dumbledore as if he couldn't quite believe what he had just heard. He began to sputter, still goggling at Dumbledore.
"You-Know-Who...returned? Preposterous. Come now, Dumbledore..."
"As Minerva and Severus have doubtless told you," said Dumbledore, "we heard BartyCrouch confess. Under the influence of Veritaserum, he told us how he was smuggled out of Azkaban, and how Voldemort - learning of his continued existence from Bertha Jorkins - went to free him from his father and used him to capture Harry. The plan worked, I tell you. Crouch has helped Voldemort to return."
"See here, Dumbledore," said Fudge, and Harry was astonished to see a slight smile dawning on his face, "you - you can't seriously believe that You-Know-Who - back? Come now, come now...certainly, Crouch may have believed himself to be acting upon You-Know-Who's orders - but to take the word of a lunatic like that, Dumbledore..."
"When Harry touched the Triwizard Cup tonight, he was transported straight to Voldemort," said Dumbledore steadily. "He witnessed Lord Voldemort's rebirth. I will explain it all to you if you will step up to my office."
"I am afraid I cannot permit you to question Harry tonight."Fudge's curious smile lingered. He too glanced at Harry, then looked back at Dumbledore, and said, "You are - er - prepared to take Harry's word on this, are you, Dumbledore?"
There was a moment's silence, which was broken by Sirius growling. His hackles were raised, and he was baring his teeth at Fudge.
"Certainly, I believe Harry," said Dumbledore. His eyes were blazing now. "I heard Crouch'sconfession, and I heard Harry's account of what happened after he touched the Triwizard Cup; the two stories make sense, they explain everything that has happened since Bertha Jorkins disappeared last summer."
Fudge still had that strange smile on his face. Once again, he glanced at Harry before answering.
"You are prepared to believe that Lord Voldemort has returned, on the word of a lunatic murderer, and a boy who...well..."
Fudge shot Harry another look, and Harry suddenly understood.
"You've been reading Rita Skeeter, Mr. Fudge," he said quietly.
Ron, Hermione, Mrs. Weasley, and Bill all jumped. None of them had realized that Harry was awake.
"Well this is bloody brilliant," Nova groaned as she sat up everyone jumped again. Except for Remus, he was still asleep. "Our leader has been reading some rubbish article that clearly isn't true. I'll have you know they are nothing but lies."
"Miss Black-"
"Lupin-Black, Minister," Nova corrected. "I did not watch my friend die, punch Voldemort in his ugly arse face, duel him, and almost die for you to believe some fucking article and claim the snake man isn't back from the dead!"
Cornelius looked at Nova as if she were crazy.
"You cannot be serious!" He stated exasperatedly.
"Of course I'm not. I'm Nova. Sirius is my father. You know the convict you still failed to capture." Nova sassed. "The Ministry is failing. You spend more time covering up Azkahban breakouts than doing your job. You, sir, are failing to see what's right in front of your face. A known follower of Voldemort confessed and stated he is working for him. Three grown adults witnessed it, you can test them under truth serum. Then, a boy died from the killing curse. Neither Harry nor myself casted. You can check our wands if you wish.
"If you need more evidence, I'll tell you." Nova began again. "If you look at Harry's left arm, there is a large gash. It's a perfectly straight line-"
"You could've done that," Fudge suggested. Snuffles growled at his insinuation.
"No, I could've. The time in which Harry receive the scar, I was paralyzed by some drug," Nova informed. "I'll pee in a cup if you want. And if you think Harry and I pulled some plot for the money, we are two of the wealthiest teenagers known. Harry has access to both his parents' vault and the Potter family vault. As you know Fleamont Potter is a highly successful potion brewer. He did, after all, create the Sleek Easy potion. As for myself, I have access to my convict father's vault as well as the Black family vault."
"That doesn't mean anything!"
"I'm sure if you look at the arm of Lucius Malfoy or another known Death Eater, you'll find their Dark Mark is in fact still there. Not only that, but you'll find it'll be the darkest it has been in the past fourteen years." Nova stated, staring directly at the Minister. "I am desperately craving some chocolate so if someone could give me some, that would be much delighted."
Hermione, still shocked, handed Nova a chocolate frog.
"Your story means nothing!" Fudge hissed. "He isn't back!"
Snape seemed to of had enough. He marched toward the Minister and rolled up his sleeve, allowing his Dark Mark to be displayed.
"There," said Snape harshly. "There. The Dark Mark. It is not as clear as it was an hour or so ago, when it burned black, but you can still see it. Every Death Eater had the sign burned into him by the Dark Lord. It was a means of distinguishing one another, and his means of summoning us to him. When he touched the Mark of any Death Eater, we were to Disapparate, and Apparate, instantly, at his side. This Mark has been growing clearer all year. Karkaroff's too. Why do you think Karkaroff fled tonight? We both felt the Mark burn. We both knew he had returned. Karkaroff fears the Dark Lord'svengeance. He betrayed too many of his fellow Death Eaters to be sure of a welcome back into the fold."
The Minister practically threw Nova and Harry's winnings at them before storming out.
"There's no need to be dramatic!" Nova called to him."Merlin, I hate that man. He's very infuriating."
Dumbledore stood.
"There is work to be done," he said. "Molly...am I right in thinking that I can count on you and Arthur?"
"Of course you can," said Mrs. Weasley. She was white to the lips, but she looked resolute."We know what Fudge is. It's Arthur's fondness for Muggles that has held him back at the Ministry all these years. Fudge thinks he lacks proper wizarding pride."
"Then I need to send a message to Arthur," said Dumbledore. "All those that we can persuade of the truth must be notified immediately, and he is well placed to contact those at the Ministry who are not as shortsighted as Cornelius."
"I'll go to Dad," said Bill, standing up. "I'll go now."
"Excellent," said Dumbledore. "Tell him what has happened. Tell him I will be in direct contact with him shortly. He will need to be discreet, however. If Fudge thinks I am interfering at theMinistry -"
"Leave it to me," said Bill.
Bill left sending a smile towards Nova and clapping Harry on the back.
"Nova please wake Remus," Dumbledore asked.
Nova threw a pillow at her father.
Remus shot up like a bullet.
"What?" He asked frantically, before looking at Nova.
"Morning!" Nova chirped. Remus opened his mouth to speak, but Nova continued. "Dumbles is giving orders."
"Minerva," said Dumbledore, turning to Professor McGonagall, "I want to see Hagrid in my office as soon as possible. Also - if she will consent to come - Madame Maxime."
Professor McGonagall nodded and left without a word.
"Poppy," Dumbledore said to Madam Pomfrey, "would you be very kind and go down to Professor Moody's office, where I think you will find a house-elf called Winky in considerable distress? Do what you can for her, and take her back to the kitchens. I think Dobby will look after her for us."
"Very - very well," said Madam Pomfrey, looking startled, and she too left. Dumbledore made sure that the door was closed, and that Madam Pomfrey's footsteps had died away before he spoke again.
"And now," he said, "it is time for two of our number to recognize each other for what they are. Sirius...if you could resume your usual form."
The great black dog looked up at Dumbledore, then, in an instant, turned back into a man. Mrs. Weasley screamed and leapt back from the bed.
"Sirius Black!" she shrieked, pointing at him.
"Mum, shut up!" Ron yelled. "It's okay!" (A/N I dunno why, but I love this line)
Snape had not yelled or jumped backward, but the look on his face was one of mingled fury and horror.
"Him!" he snarled, staring at Sirius, whose face showed equal dislike. "What is he doing here?"
"My daughter almost died, Snivellus. Why wouldn't I be here?" Sirius growled.
"He is here at my invitation," said Dumbledore, looking between them, "as are you, Severus. I trust you both. It is time for you to lay aside your old differences and trust each other."
"You're asking a lot, Dumbles," Nova scoffed. Remus smacked her on the back of the head. "Child abuse!"
"I will settle, in the short term," said Dumbledore, with a bite of impatience in his voice, "fora lack of open hostility. You will shake hands. You are on the same side now. Time is short, and unless the few of us who know the truth do not stand united, there is no hope for any of us."
Very slowly - but still glaring at each other as though each wished the other nothing but ill -Sirius and Snape moved toward each other and shook hands. They let go extremely quickly.
"That will do to be going on with," said Dumbledore, stepping between them once more."Now I have work for each of you. Fudge's attitude, though not unexpected, changes everything. Sirius, I need you to set off at once. You are to alert Arabella Figg, Mundungus Fletcher -the old crowd. Lie low at Lupin's for a while; I will contact you there."
"Wait! Professor!" Nova called. "I have an idea!"
"What's your idea, Miss Lupin-Black?"
"For Headquarters," Nova began. "Number 12 Grimmauld Place. I've been renovating it since I ran away from the Morgensterns. So far there's a nice kitchen, dining room, and five bedrooms not including my own. The library is a work in progress. There are many rooms. The only people that live there are my house elves, Kreacher and Binky."
"That thing's still alive?" Sirius asked.
"Yes. He is a rather nice elf. The only downside is the house is in need of a major remodel and cleaning. And then there's Granny Greatest. The old bat as a screaming portrait of herself hanging on the wall with a sticking charm. I'm sure if you give me a muggle hammer, a crowbar, gasoline, and a match I can get her off." Nova stated. "Lucky for you, I know one person she adores. Meaning, when she starts screaming we can silence her until we get her off."
"Who?" Remus asked.
"Myself!" Nova grinned.
"I'll take a look at the end of the term." Dumbledore grinned.
Once Dumbledore left, Nova, Harry, Hermione, Sirius, Ron, and Remus were all talking.
"Nox, don't die," Hermione pleaded.
"I'll try not to." Nova grinned. "I saw Uncle Prongs, Aunt Flower, Uncle Reggie, Aunty Marls, and Aunt Dorky while I was there."
"You saw them?" Remus asked.
"Yeah. Thought Uncle Prongs was Harry at first. Called him old. He didn't like that very much." Nova shrugged. Sirius grinned. "Watched Pa launch Dumbledore. That was fun."
Remus turned bright red.
"What did they say?" Harry asked.
"I have messages for everyone," Nova stated. "Da, Uncle Reggie says thanks for breaking his arm when you were seven he also said something about having better hair. Aunty Marls says to stop trying to be cool, it's not gonna happen. Aunt Dorky wanted me to yell at you for telling me to call her 'Dorky'. Aunt Flower says not to do anything stupid. Uncle Prongs says you got fat."
"Oi! I didn't say that!" James objected.
"I'm kidding. He didn't really say that. He said 'Mum and Dad say hi'. He also said that he misses you and he better not see you in person for another ten plus years." Nova answered. Sirius began to tear up at the thought of the Potter parents still caring for him.
"Ron, Dorky says you're her favorite Weasley. Lily loves how you stand up for your friends and don't abandon them," Nova began. "That's basically what they all said.
"Hermione, Aunt Flower says, and I quote, 'Thank you for keeping the idiots alive.' I have no idea what she means." Nova grinned. "Uncle Reggie says you're his favorite muggle-born.
"Pa, Aunt Flower says that she's disappointed in you for not recognizing the signs of the menstrual cycle in the summer, but she found it hilarious," Nova said as Remus turned bright red. "Uncle Reggie threatened you not to break Da's heart. Uncle Prongs says he is with you for every transformation. Aunt Marls said it was her that ate your chocolate in seventh year."
At this point, nearly everyone was crying.
"Harry, your parents are proud of you," Nova stated.
"Hey!" Regulus yelled. "What about my message?"
"You threatened him!" Lily shouted.
"Yeah! Not to break my niece's heart!"
