Annual Celebration?
Hello, readers!
I started writing this book about a year ago simply because I had nothing better to do and so many ideas. Today marks the one-year anniversary of "The Girl Who Fought". It also marks the day, I make sure my readers know how much I appreciate them.
I've been struggling a lot mentally lately as a whole. My updates have been EXTREMELY slow. I took a break from wattpad completely. When I came back, some of the first comments I came back to were about how much you guys loved the stories I write and how much you guys stan me. It quite honestly motivated me to write again. Of course, it was hard to get back into the swing of things, but it's worth it.
I would like to make a big thanks to every single one of you for commenting. You are truly hysterical.
Bad / sad mood + read wattpad comments = good mood.
Anyways . . . the following segment is almost like a "What If . . ." episode from the MCU. It will be starring the one and only Sirius Lupin-Black.
Life following the death of Lily and James Potter was nothing but a rapid decline, especially for Sirius Black. Following the death of his two closest friends and the betrayal of another, he was thrown into Azkaban. All he had to remember his life before the pain were the ghostly memories and two photographs.
Memories of four boys ran rapidly through his mind. Memories of one becoming a brother and the other a lover. Memories of four girls that had a rocky start with the boys, but became closer than anything.
A photograph that showed the group together one last time. A photograph Sirius ripped a part off of. A photograph Sirius spent his time looking at one face more than any other. A face with amber eyes and sandy hair. A face that brought him comfort and happiness. Standing next to the face, was one Sirius struggled to look at without sobbing; James Potter.
The second photograph was one that always brought many thoughts. Some of them fond, others worry. The second was of a child no older than one month. She was the one person Sirius would do anything for without a second thought. He'd even cut off his hair for her.
She was a bubbly baby. She was smiling and giggling in the photograph. Her amber eyes held such innocence. Innocence Sirius wanted to protect. Tuffs of caramel hair sprouted from her head, moving as she giggled.
Nova Lily Lupin-Black.
His pride and joy.
His little exploding star.
His little supernova.
It was actually Remus who chose her name. Sirius didn't want to name her anything that had to do with stars, but Remus was persistent. A supernova itself is a powerful exploding star. In a poetic sense, she'd represent the end to a star, or in this case, the "old Black family". She'd be the start of a family that was much more and much more progressive. She'd be powerful in not only her magic but her words and knowledge.
When Sirius broke out of Azkaban, she was the first person he looked for. It was certainly a pain to track where she was, but it's not every day you come across an article speaking about Morgenstern's Christmas Ball approaching in December. It's not every day you learn about them formally introducing the Black heiress; Nova Black.
He spent about a week watching from the distance. He wanted nothing more than to see her but restrained himself for her safety. Yet, when she strolled into the woods with a bottle of firewhiskey one night, he got to meet her.
She was everything he expected, but better. She had told him about her life simply because he would listen . . . and probably because he was Padfoot at the time.
When she had gone off to Hogwarts for the year, he had followed. Part of it was to kill a rat, but he got to see his daughter.
Admittedly, when he did get his hands on the rat . . . or rather how he got the rat, he could have approached it differently. But then again, Remus was the one that actually made the plans. James and Sirius would come up with ideas, Remus was the one that made it harder for them to be caught.
The night the truth came out, he saw a side of Nova he knew was there but never witnessed. He saw the side that would protect her friends and family to the ends of the Earth. He saw his best quality in her . . . apart from his hair.
When Remus's furry problem became a real problem that night, his first thought was to protect his daughter. He didn't care what happened following, as long as she was safe.
She did run right into the danger following that, but Sirius chose to ignore it.
After rescuing him, Nova seemed genuinely happy to see him. He spent that entire summer getting to know his daughter. He saw her happy, sad, angry, etc. He loved all of it.
He also spent that entire summer reuniting the person he considered his soulmate. Remus, who was never a hopeless romantic, didn't believe in soulmates made the fact he loved Sirius very known.
When Sirius heard of the Triwizard Tournament, he was excited. Then Nova was forced to compete, and he was scared. Things were especially worse seeing as he couldn't attend most events due to still being a wanted criminal.
When Voldemort was on the rise after returning, he was confined to his childhood house. Not childhood home, because it wasn't. That was Potter Manor. Grimmauld Place was nothing more than a building that brought up bad memories and past trauma.
But what really pissed him off was not his inability to help, which was a major part, was the hate Nova was getting. It was article after article. She said she wasn't bothered by it, but he knew she was crying in her room. He wanted to help and comfort her, but every time she said she was good.
Nova's fifth year at Hogwarts stressed him out more than he'd like to admit to anyone but Remus. Her OWLS were this year. She was constantly receiving hate for the false rumors. She was actively participating in Order meetings. She was training with Mad-Eye . . .
He was worried, to say the least.
When he heard about Harry and Nova's relationship, he was happy but also worried. He was happy they finally stopped being oblivious. He was thrilled his daughter was dating Harry, someone he trusted, someone he knew. Yet, he was worried about the war and both being targets . . .
When news of their little field trip to the Ministry reached Sirius, he was the first out the door. He remembers a jet of red light hitting him, but a gust of gold mist stopping him. Everything after that was a blur.
What he does remember is Remus slapping him in the face for "scaring him".
He remembers Nova running full force into his arms with happy tears streaming down his face.
"Da!" he remembers her faint words between happy sobs. "You're alive! Thank Merlin!"
Then the Minister of Magic approached him. Sirius half expected him to throw him in Azkaban, but instead, they shook hands. Fudge declared Sirius a free man. Sirius, forever thankful, knew for a fact Nova most likely had something to do with it.
As Nova's sixth year began, she started going on Order missions. Some of them, he joined her on. The ones he didn't, he was over his head in worry. To pass the time, he'd spend time with his son; Teddy.
Sirius, Remus, and Tonks had an interesting dynamic. They all raised Teddy together. When Tonks started to date this woman, Sirius was only a little overprotective . . . but like only a little. Who are we kidding, he interrogated her seven times . . . and counting.
Dumbledore's death marked the day things really started. Sirius barely let Nova leave the house without someone else with her. It was the same case for Remus and Tonks. He didn't even let Teddy go anywhere but Andromeda's house.
"Remus!" Sirius had shouted as he searched for his husband amidst the chaos of the wedding. "What's wrong-?"
"They took her," Remus said quietly, trying not to cry. "They took her."
"Where's Nova?" Sirius asked, not hearing Remus as he placed his hands on his shoulders. "Where's Harry? Ron? Hermione? Where's Nova?"
Remus looked up at Sirius as a single tear managed to escape. That was all Sirius needed to understand.
And since that day, Sirius devoted all of his time to find her. He vowed he would find her, no matter what.
"Sirius?" Harry had questioned as Sirius made his way to Nova's room. He had assumed Harry would be here because it's where he spent his hours when he wasn't searching for her (but it was her room at Lupin Cottage). "What are you doing here?"
"The same reason you are," Sirius sat on Nova's bed, looking down at his godson as he cried, holding one of Nova's shirts.
"I'm here because Dumbledore gave me a job-"
"No, Harry," Sirius said slowly. "You're here in Nova's room because you miss her. I'm here for the same reason."
Sirius wasn't going to help Harry on his mission. Partially because the boy wouldn't want help, a trait he gets from his mother, and because, as I said, every fiber of his body was devoted to finding Nova.
"I miss her so much, Sirius," Harry cried, a fresh wave of tears spilling from his eyes. "He being abducted scares me more than anything."
"Me too, Prongslet," Sirius said softly, embracing the boy before him.
When he was called to Shell Cottage, he almost didn't go until he heard it has something to do with Nova.
"Da," Nova said in a private message to him. He looked at his daughter, who was covered in bruises and had blood spilling from her lip. The sight alone caused him to cry. "I miss you. I won't be home for a while, so please focus on the war and not me. I'm fine, I promise. I have some things to take care of, and some people to distract. I'm too dangerous to have me home. They're after me. Take Teddy, Pa, Tonks, and Felicity and hide. They'll look for me where you are. I cannot risk coming home and putting any of you in danger. I love you, Da. To the stars and beyond."
When Sirius did see Nova again, it was the final battle. She and Nyx appeared. He almost couldn't believe it. It was only when she embraced him did he know she was real. He was several steps away from shipping her off to Antarctica for safety.
While the final battle was being fought, he saw Remus dueling Dolohov. Remus was beginning to lose, being exhausted through the endless fighting. Sirius didn't hesitate.
Dolohov was found amongst the fallen.
When Harry was declared dead, Sirius stood beside his husband as Nova stepped forward. He watched proudly as she spat in his face.
"I will never join you. I will never join the monster that took my godparents from me. I will never join the monster that has made the lives of the people I care about living hell. I will never join the monster that stands for everything I am against," she snarled. "I will never stop fighting until I see your lifeless body at my feet.
"I will not stop fighting until there isn't anything to fight for. You may think you've won by killing Harry, but you're wrong. Killing Harry does not ensure victory. Now when some of the best witches, wizards, and magic-doers are still standing, still fighting. You sure as hell won't be winning while I'm still breathing.
"Not when my family is at risk. Not when my best friends are at risk simply for who they love. Not when my best friends are in danger because of who they support. Not when my sister is being targeted because of the blood that runs through her veins. Because that's MY family, Tom."
When Voldemort was finally defeated, Sirius had Nova on house arrest for the next six months.
The house arrest Nova did not listen to.
Then, finally, life began to improve.
And for the first time in nearly twenty years, Sirius could be happy. He could be happy with his husband, his children, and eventually his son-in-law.
