Another Note: This is a draft of The Girl Who Fell Out of The Ocean - I will go on to make changes (and correct things) when I have completed the story) I hope you enjoy!
Anna and George never rang Doctor Charlton about more details on Marxby Manor they decided to visit Marxby alone.
Lavinia was mildly suspicion when her parents pawed at each other and told her they were going for a weekend away. It's wasn't like Anna and George were the touchy-feely type, well they were, but they did it behind closed doors, they were private, that was their thing.
So that morning when they told her they were going to Wales she shrugged it off as some mid-life thing and let them get on with it, it's not like she wouldn't enjoy the alone time.
"Wales?" Whispered George.
"Well.." Anna replied back at him in a whispered.
"If I say Sussex, that's a bit obvious and I just saw something about Welsh sheep farmers on the news and it just came out," said Anna.
George shook his head and smiled.
Many hours later...In East Sussex
Anna and George were approaching a long stone gravel path that was the entrance to Marxby Manor as they drove into the entrance the gravel path widened until it was surrounding the great house. In front of the house was a stone water feature that showed four little girls and one little boy made to look like they were playing in the water.
The water rose from a great height from somewhere beneath the water feature, plummetted back down and covered the stone children who looked like they were dancing and having a jolly good time indeed.
The Manor was open to the pre-booked and paying public, and although most of the time was booked for weddings, and country activities like clay pigeon shooting on select days guests could book to come and look round the Manor as it really was a fine great house.
The guests would look at all the period art, hear the family history and sit in the beautiful gardens and have a cream tea at the end of the day. The estate manager Lady Jane Marxby really new what she was doing as so many of these old estates went to wreck and ruin now.
Along with other guests, Anna and George took the guided tour, there were very few rooms that were off limits to the public as Lady Jane explained she and her husband did not live at the Manor, the Marxby family in fact not resided at the Manor officially since 1918.
George rose his eyebrows at Anna.
"1918, that's when Dolphina would have been living at the Manor,"
"Shh," Anna silenced him.
"Can I asked what happened?" Said George to cause your family to leave the Manor.
Lady Jane stiffened, then smiled.
"Nothing too interesting I'm afraid, just with the war, I suppose the Earl and Countess of the time wanted a new start, they obviously kept they manor, they didn't sell it or any of their possessions they were wealthy and lucky to be so in a time of such upheaval, but I believe they needed a change after a difficult period," Said Lady Jane.
George nodded and smiled.
"You hear that difficult period," Said George.
"She said nothing of interest," said Anna.
George left the group and walked out the manor and glared up at it for a moment, then he whirled round and his eyes fixed on the fountain and walked closer to the stone children playing in it.
Engraved beneath it read- The children of The Earl and Countess of Marxby James, Sarah, Persephone, Dolphina, Fay - together and at peace. 1922.
"What do you think this means?" Said George
"If The Earl and Countess left Marxby Manor in 1918 why have this fountain of his children made in 1922," said Anna brushing Dolphina's name with her fingers.
George stood, thinking for a moment.
"Together and at peace you have to admit that's weird?" Said George.
Anna moved away from the fountain and looked at George.
"Okay it's weird," she said.
May 1914
I was outside the church, everyone I knew was cheering or throwing rice and confetti at me, I was holding Niall's hand or he was holding mine, and we smiled.
It was a horrible moment from a terrible dream, like when you're falling. But when you dream, and you fall there's an end to it - you wake up, and it's horrible, you're horrible but there I was standing out side a church falling, plummeting but I was never going to wake, it was not a dream it was life- my life and I had no choice but to live it, one moment to the next.
Somehow, and I don't now how my hand left Niall's and my body left the mass crowd and found a quiet space round the back of the church. I just needed a moment to find my breath and plaster a smile on my face.
I knew it would seconds, a minute tops before they noticed I was gone or found me, so I had to make the most of the time I had.
As it turned out I was not destined to be alone at all, but to see Will leaning against the brick church wall, taking his own quiet moment.
"Will?"
He looked up at me with a sad face.
"I can't believe you're still here... I.. saw you leave," I said.
"I couldn't do it Doll, watch you marry him, I couldn't do it,"
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry I dragged you into my awful mess,"
Will looked up at me shocked.
Don't be sorry Dolly, I love you, since the first time I sat with you in that little boat, I wanted to be part of this mess, I wanted to love you. I still want to love. My heart is breaking and I still want you.
I took a step closer to him so close I could smell him, he was all fresh sea breeze with the essence of paint.
Will.
Will.
Will.
Will step closer to me, he picked up my left hand and looked at my ring.
"I hate him" his beautiful Scottish accent rolled over the words like fire.
Before I could say anything his hand was on my lower back pulling me into him, I could feel my veil blowing in the wind. His mouth was on mine hard, this time, wanting, I breathed him in, my arms around his kneck as if we were the only people in the world I bodies pressing together I wanted more, we wanted more...
"Doll.... What the hell is going on," It was James, thank goodness it had been James.
We broke apart.
"You no what, don't tell me I don't to know" he threw his hands in the air in dismay.
"You," James said looking at Will with wide angry eyes.
"Stay where you are, we need to talk."
"Dolphina with me, everyone is wondering where you got to."
"How's my..."
James gaped at me with furious eyes.
"What, how's your lipstick? How do you think it is Doll, you just been passionately kissing a man who is not the bloody groom on your wedding day, I'd say your lipstick is pretty fucked!"
Without saying anything Jimmy ran his thumb over my lips fixed my makeup, gave me a nod, gave Will another scowl and we walked back it to the crowd.
