Author Note: The Girl Who Fell Out of The Ocean is a first draft and editing will happen when I have posted all chapters.
Lavinia walked hesitantly into Charlie's office, she was wearing Sam's hoody again, she had hidden it so he couldn't take it back to Chichester, it smelled of him still, she missed him, the hoody made her feel safe like he and Andy were here with her now.
As she walked through the door and into Charlie's office he noticed the hood of the jumper was over her head something she only did when she was being defensive. Charlie smiled at Lavinia as she approached him slowly and sat in her usual chair, when she got closer to him Charlie noticed what she was trying to hide.
A giant black bruise right across the right side of her face.
"It happened again then," said Charlie remembering the incident when Lavinia was attacked by an invisible assailant outside his house.
Lavinia pulled down her hood, immediately pushing her hair out of her face.
"It happens now and again."
"Do you want to talk about it?"
"Not really" Lavinia leant back into the chair.
Charlie made a face.
"Once upon time someone, something hurt me, I don't remember it, I don't know if I ever will. The bruise on my face it fades, you've seen it, by the time I leave this room it will be like it never happened".
"But it did happen," said Charlie.
"Yes," said Lavinia touching her face.
"Something happened Charlie, something happened to me, I just don't remember what it was."
Charlie took off his glasses and rubbed his eyes and let out a long deep sigh.
"Close your eyes Lavinia" he said.
And she did.

Marxby Manor - 1914
It was late in the evening and the wedding was ending, the night was beautiful so warm and glorious that I felt protected in a sort of warm bubble. Niall and I spoke of it, trying to make this thing, this marriage... is work the right word? I don't know.
That was the first time he kissed me and I mean really kissed me, I knew he meant it, trying to be together, why wouldn't he, after all, we were man and wife. But my heart, my soul it was already taken, how could I even try to be with Niall when I felt I'd already made those promises to someone else.
That's what I was thinking when his lips touched mine, when his arms wrapped around me, I think I must have been standing in his arms like a dead thing. So still and dispassionate, it wasn't horrible; it wasn't anything, just guilt, so much guilt.
That's when I saw him, my, beautiful, beautiful, Will.
Jimmy had promised me he could keep him from the wedding but it seemed like my brother's threats and promises all came to nothing. Will was storming up the gravel path that led to the Manor and we were right in his line of view as Niall kissed me.
My body felt his presence I think, the tingles on your skin that you get from being around the person you desire more than anything and the guilt that smashes through you as they watch and you betray them.
Niall kissed my forehead and whispered softly.
"I'm going inside Dolphina, you'll be joining me?" He said unlinking his hand from mine.
"Of course, I just want to take a few more moments air"
"Very well, I'll see you back inside momentarily".
When Niall was back inside the Manor and out of sight Will ran towards me and almost dragged me away from the house and round the back towards the servants entrants where we wouldn't be seen.
"I can't do this anymore, that's what I came here to tell you, Dolly, I thought I could be with you like this but it's too terrible there comes a point when I have to protect myself."
Will was touching me all over, his hands were running over my waist, he touched my face for a moment then desperately he pulled me towards him.
I was so close to him, I could feel his heart thumping in his chest, I knew it was for me, but not in a way that I should be proud of, but in a way that made me ashamed of myself.
"Please don't leave me here," I said.
"Leave you where Dolly? This is your home..."
I started to cry, sob even, I remember this irrational cramping feeling inside my chest and wanting to grab his arms and not let him go-ever but knowing deep down that was not possible.
"Where will you go now?" I cried.
"I cannot stay here, see you every day, no." He stopped.
"Then where?" I cried again.
They say there is going to be a war Dolly and if that happens things are going to change, for all of us.
"Why are you saying these things, stop saying such things, William."
"They are not things Dolly, this could soon be our reality".
"I don't believe it,"I turned away from him.
"Well try to, for me," Will looked just looked at me.
I said nothing.
He let go of me, I felt so separate from him, and me from him what had I done to myself and to him by getting involved with this man.
Will started to walk away from the Manor and me too I suppose.
"Will..." I ran slightly after him.
He turned back to me.
"I know Dolly, me too... always."
I didn't know it at the time but learnt later that Fay had been watching us the whole time.

The Next Day- Charlie's Office
George did not wait or knock before busting into Charlie's office- what George didn't realise was that it was only by luck that rum wasn't sitting on his desk. Luckily for Charlie he had moved back to is cottage the day before and the rum had moved with him.
"Mr Gregory," said Charlie.
"What an unexpected pleasure."
George smirked and sat down.
"Cut the small talk Doc and tell me what you know about what happened at Marxby Manor" spat George.
"Alright," Said Charlie moving slightly in his chair.
"Despite the wonders of the internet, there is very little on the actual incident available. It is known that something happened in 1918 before the end of the First World War; Marxby Manor was being used as a convalescent home for injured soldiers. We know of course that The Earl and Countess had five children, and four being daughters, three of those daughters were involved in the events in 1918.
"No mention of the son?" Asked George.
"No, there is no mention of the son being involved."
"The records, searches and research I have done on The Marxby family and specifically that night in 1918 never mention a date and never mention what actually happened. I think somewhere along the way the family wanted to kill the story and all the rumours that surrounded it and they have done their best to do so."
"So you really can't tell me anything," said George.
Charlie sighed and pushed his glasses so they didn't slip from his nose.
I can only tell you what I call repeated words that keep cropping up in my research, they are like whispers surrounding this family, that history has done its best to erase.
George raised his eyebrows expectantly.
"Well..?"
"Murder, abduction, suicide, betrayal and death," said Charlie.
"Are you okay George?" Said Charlie.
"No Doctor Charlton, all of a sudden I feel quite unwell."
