Author note: The Girl Who Fell Out of the Ocean is a first draft
Everything ends weather we want it to or not. Sometimes we don't know the end has come until it arrives at our door step all force and fury and dragging us, the unsuspecting victim along with it. Everything ends, but just as all things end all things begin- Charlie didn't know it yet but he was at the very beginning.
This day, this day when he packed up his office and cottage ready to join his family in Marxby village may have felt like an ending but it really was just the beginning of his story.
1918
A girl, a boy and a baby were on a ship, that ship was destined for India. The Girl had spoken of India with her sisters and always thought of it as a mythical land of promise and wonder.
Childish dreams and childish notions she thought to herself. It had been her sisters who'd talked of India, her sisters who dreamed of going but somehow she was the one who was on the ship to this place of bedtime story's and sisterly dreams.
The ship was sailing through ice blue waters that crashed against the side of the ship, the girl couldn't take her eyes off the waves if she did she would have to think, she would have to feel.
The boy was holding a chubby baby in his arms with dark hair made even curlier by the sea winds.
"You Alright Fay?" He said.
Alright? She thought, would she ever be alright again? The Girl tried to block her sisters murder from her mind, she didn't need to be thinking about a her sister to feel the pain of her loss, so she tried not to think of her at all.
They had believed they'd shared a soul, her sister, brother and the girl and now she existed in this world alone, not alone... but without shards of her own soul, pieces she would never get back.
The cold sea air whipped her yellow hair around her pale face as she smiled down at the baby and then sadly up at the boy.
She was Fay Trevelyen now, the Marxby name couldn't touch her or the baby...they were free, Tom and Dolly had saved them both, or had they ran away? The girl wasn't sure.
She listened to the waves and thought only of the future and who they were to become. And in that moment felt completely captivated by the raging sea.
