#2 Purple Cloth
As Sage started walking back down the path that lead to the town. Putting the hood of her cloak back over her head, exhaling a sharp breath at the thought of why it was off in the first place. She glanced back over her shoulder to see Ciel being lead to a horse drawn carriage, with his tall butler close behind him. Just then Sebastian's gaze reached hers, making her head jerk back forward. Sage picked up her pace knowing that they would have to pass her on the road. 'Maybe I can go through the woods?' she thought. Then she remembered the guards. Cursing under her breath, she kept to the road.
After awhile of speed walking, Sage heard horses' hooves behind her. Sighing miserably, she picked up her pace, almost running now, and watched the light brown carriage with golden vine like designs engraved around the shape of it pass her. Through the velvet red curtains that hung in front of the back window, she saw the back of Ciel's head. "Annoying snob." Sage mumbled to herself.
She continued to the town, only to return to her boring position in the state hall. As she entered three people rushed up to her. The two guards from earlier and her personal maid, Sirena. "Milady! You scared the entire manor when you rushed away from the guards! Are you alright?!" Sirena fussed while checking all over her mistress. Sage rolled her eyes and pushed past the three of them to her room. She saw a small stack of papers that sat on the red nightstand close to her bed. Grumbling to herself she picked them up and headed towards her study.
When Sage entered the room, she saw that Sirena was already waiting for her with a cup of steaming coffee sitting on a black leather coster. Sirena dipped her head to Sage before pulling the chair out for her. Sage sat down and threw the stack of papers on the desk. She grabbed her cup of coffee from the small plate that it rested on and sipped it stressfully. Sirena must not have noticed, if she did she didn't say anything about it.
Sage stamped the first two documents and picked up the third one. It was a letter from one of her authors. Sage owned a company that sold kids and adult books. She had thirteen authors working for her. The letter belonged to Aidia Fritz. She was asking for a loan of $2,000 for supplies for the next year. Sage tossed the letter to Sirena to take care of. Nodding she left the room gripping the letter tightly in her hands. Sage looked back at the stack and picked up the next paper. It was from...... the queen? Curious, she read the letter closely. The queen was assigning her with a case about a mysterious shadow figure that's been hanging people around the city, always wrapping purple cloths around their eyes. The highness also said that she has been given a partner that will help her with the case. Sage had recently been given the name ' The Queen's Howling Wolf ' and goes around bringing down annoying troublemakers. Smirking at the thought of having something to do, Sage stood up. "I hope it's Ciel that's been hung." She mumbled to herself. She then picked up her cloak, latching the button to hold it in place, and headed out the window.
Covering her face with the hood of the black cloak, Sage walked through the crowded streets towards the crime scene. She saw a rather large crowd and decided that that was where she needed to go.
Standing behind a small women and whom Sage assumed was her husband,Sage saw that there were three men and one women hanging by their necks, purple cloths tied neatly around their eyes. Pushing past the couple, she inched closer to the dead figures in front of her. Twisting her head, Sage felt a hand land on her arm and it pulled her out of the crowd.
Annoyed, Sage turned to scold the person that dragged her out. Only to stop when she saw Sebastian looming over her. "What the hell do you want?!" She hissed at him. "I would ask why you are out in the open? A young lady like yourself shouldn't be somewhere you could be snatched up." He said mockingly. "I'm not a child, I can take care of myself." Sage said patting her dagger still tightly strapped to her thigh. "Won't you be recognized as the town's jewel?" A voice sounded behind her. She turned to see Ciel with his head tilted to the side ever so slightly. 'Great, just what I needed. The brat is back'.
