A Fight For Freeform
After Ember got the Fusion Core, she made her way to the roof leaving the dog that she now knows the name is "Dog Meat" in the room with the survivors. Ember looked around and right away saw the armor T45 that was full of rust. "Well let's hope this works" She slipped in the Core and got into the armor after doing a quick scan of the readings as it powered on, she could see one of the legs and arms was in bad condition. Thinking of the people in the room below her, she shook her head and tested the movement of each body part, it was stiff but moved none the less.
Ember made her way into the Vertabird to the minigun and pulled it off with little trouble but soon she could hear shouting and gunfire. She jumped down and made quick work of the raiders not even feeling the bullets bouncing off the old armor, when suddenly she heard banging down the street. Out popped a dark, scaled-skin creature with long horns and short claws reptilian-looking monster it looked to be 7 or 8 feet tall. The surviving Raiders either fled or shot at the monster and before Ember's eyes, it made quick work of them slashing into their bodies and even tearing one in half.
Before she could back into the museum with the hope the monster would just go away on its own it turned to her and charged. Ember raised the minigun at the thing and pulled the trigger knowing her armor would only help so much. The creature was hit many times but the gun started to glow red with overheating, she tried to move out of the way of the monster's swing but was pinned down as the monster slammed its fist into the rusty armor her readings showed the arm was at critically damaged one more hit and her arm may as well not be in the armor as soon as she had an opening she raised the gun to point to the stomach of the creature as her only target and pulled the trigger tearing through the muscle at such close range soon the monster fell dead and the surviving raiders where taken down by Preston on the balcony. Ember exited the armer taking the core as she walked back into the museum wanting to get away from the monster as fast as she could less it get up again, she made her way to Preston and the other survivors who were now in the main room, as she walked up Preston started to speak.
"That was... a pretty amazing display. I'm just glad you're on our side."
"The feeling is mutual Preston," she said looking at the survivors.
"Listen... When we first met... You asked about the Minutemen. One thing you should know about us, we help out our friends. So here. For everything you've done. Thank you." he handed me a small bag that sounded like the bag I found on the dead body.
"I didn't do it for the money, but it's appreciated none the less. What will you do now?"
"For the longest time, Mama Murphy's had a vision of a place called "Sanctuary." Some old neighborhood... but one we can make new again. Why don't you come with us I could really use your help."
"Sanctuary? Could you mean Sanctuary Hill? It's not far from here but most of the town is destroyed, I was just there before coming here." Ember asked looking in thought of her hometown. "I can come with you, but I have to make a quick stop at the small police stashin' here in town it's important."
"We can come with you," Preston said before being cut off by Mary.
"Oh, come on Preston why are we going on a deter when we are so close?"
"You don't have to come I can meet you at the town," Ember said in a hurry.
"No, you just saved our asses we can take an extra 10 minutes and stick with you before heading to the town, besides you said you were at sanctuary before this, you could help us keep on track and not veer off."
Mama Murphy spoke up "You'd need to stay strong. Like you been. Cause there's more to your destiny. I've seen it. And I know your pain."
"My destiny?" Ember asked the old lady.
"You're a woman out of time. Out of hope. But all's not lost. I can feel... your brother's energy. He's alive."
Ember's eyes grew wide "Where is my brother? Where is Shaun?" she asked with desperation in her voice.
Mama Murphy looked apologetic "Oh, I wish I knew, kid. I really do. But it's not like I can see your brother. I can just... feel his life force, his energy. He's out there, And even I don't need the Sight to tell you where you should start lookin' The great, green jewel of the Commonwealth. Diamond City. The biggest settlement around."
"Diamond City, Is Shaun there or was he there and now he's not?"
"Look, kid, I'm tired now. Maybe you bring me some chems later, the Sight will paint a clearer picture."
Preston cut in before Ember could tell her she shouldn't "No! Mama Murphy, we talked about this. That junk... it's gonna kill you..."
"Oh shush, Preston. We're all gonna die eventually. We're gonna need the Sight. And our new friend here, she's gonna need it too."
"Don't bring me into your argument, please. Now I have to head over to the station then we can start our way to Sanctuary Hill."
"Lead the way, kid." Mama Murphy said as she stood from the bench. The small group made their way to the small police station the town had Like most of the town the building was boarded up but some of the bords had been pulled off or rotted.
'Well, I guess it HAS been 200 years'.
"This is the place you need to be?" Preston asked Ember.
"Ya just stay out here I'll only be a moment."
"We'll be right here we have your back," he said as she walked through one of the holes of broken planks.
Inside was a mess the place looked like it had been torn apart. After looking around she found her desk and her name plate. She was shocked to see it was in relatively good shape. 'I really should leave this here, but I don't know I feel like keeping SOMETHING from before plus I did earn it' She picked up the plate she was going to put it in her old house perhaps in Shaun's room. She touched the Terminal it came to life. She put in her password and looked through the few notes, the oldest being from her boss the day the world ended.
'Miss Jones,
Let me be the first to welcome you to the force. For your first assignment, I need you to take a patrol car to Cambridge Police Station they are currently working on the Eddie Winter case and asked us for help. You passed your class as the top student in the last 15 years so I want you to head there as soon as you can. You will report to them every morning until they solve the case then you will come back here to work on things. They will have your gun and other essentials for you along with a briefing. I look forward to working with you for many years.
Dan Combes'
"Cambridge huh that's kinda far from here, especially without a car. But if there's even a chance there will be better weapons there, I'll go" She gave one last look around the room picturing what it would have looked like her first day if the world wouldn't have gone to shit. She shook her head and started to head out of the building, now wasn't the time to think of the past only the future, only of her brother. Once she had her brother in her arms agene then and only then could she mourn the loss of her old life.
