14; immortal
Sullivan had been unable to sleep that night. Not because she wasn't tired, because God knows she was pretty much, but because the day after was the day.
That's why she found herself sitting at her couch, a book opened on her laps as she was sipping on a cup of hot tea at six in the morning. It was silent around her, Small Heath not fully awake even if the sun was started to raise.
She flinched when her front door went opened quietly, letting Thomas' frame in the doorway. He snorted when he noticed her sitting there, already awake.
"You know, I haven't give you spare keys for you to break in every fucking hour," she laughed, closing the book and putting it on the table. "There's tea in the kitchen."
"I don't want tea, thank you anyway," he spoke as he sat down next to her, kissing her forehead as he did so. She laid against his shoulder, her temple resting against it as she grabbed her book again.
"What brought you here, that early, my dear?" he scoffed at her dialect, as he closed the book to make her pay attention.
"Stop speaking like fucking Juliet, Sully," he ordered. "I'm calling a family meeting later, I wanted to wake you up but, well, seems like you don't bloody need me for it."
"I haven't slept," she replied, rolling her eyes. "I'm anxious, I have to say." Tommy rolled his eyes too as she crossed her legs, chewing on her bottom lip nervously.
"It's the final show," he whispered as he patted her cheek, his cold skin making her shiver a little as she turned her gaze to him.
"I do hope you'll be safe, all of you," she wished.
"We're always safe, Sully," he assured, putting his hand on her lap. She nodded her head, looking around herself.
"Alright, the family meeting, when?"
"Half ten," he answered. "Don't be late this time." She laughed sarcastically, smacking his arm playfully as he laughed for real. She rolled her eyes, playing with a strand of blond hair as he just remained silent, enjoying the time they had together.
"So black star day, eh?" she asked with a faint laugh, tipping her head back to look at him.
"Yeah, here we fucking are," he smiled, his thumb caressing her cheek as she pursed her lips, thinking about how she could celebrate it.
"Are we gonna celebrate your victory?" Sully dared to demand, Thomas chuckling as he pushed her to the side slightly with his shoulder.
"You really need another reason to drink?" he mocked. "Fuck's sake, you're worse than Arthur."
"Oh my God," she gasped. "Now I'm really offended." He kissed her lips softly before standing up quickly, his hands hidden in his pockets.
"Sorry not sorry," he spoke as she gave him the finger, making him roll his eyes with a smile. "Don't be late," he asked again.
"Yes, sir," she answered while clasping her hands.
-----
"You look like a fucking corpse, I swear," Arthur spoke as a greeting while Sullivan walked into the room where the Shelbys and herself were family meeting.
"Fuck you," she mumbled, turning to look at John whom of which was laughing at his brother's slur. "Better looking like a corpse than looking like you."
"Whatcha talking about? I'm a fucking Apollon," he replied, making her laughed loudly, walking to where Polly was standing next to Tommy.
"Yes, and my father's fucking Georges V," she stated, watching as the man was winking at her.
"After all, you're a fucking princess," he snorted.
"Alright, stop it, you're making us bloody late," Polly told them by placing a gentle hand on the blonde's shoulder. The two friends smiled at each other, mumbling quiet insults to one another so Tommy could speak at the same time.
"Right. I've brought you all here today because this is the day we replace Billy Kimber." Thomas announced. "This is the day we become respectable. The day we join the official National Association of Race Course Bookmakers. But first we do the dirty work. We've all known it's been coming. I just haven't told anyone the date. We're going to the Worcester races. The track opens at one, we get there at two. Now, Kimber thinks we're going there to help him fight the Lee brothers. But thanks to the efforts of our John, and his lovely new wife Esme, the Lees are now our kin. I interrupted those efforts this morning, and I can assure you all, John is making great sacrifices in the cause of peace."
"Yeah, all right," John groaned, as everyone was laughing around him. Sully giggled as John sent her a death glare, his eyes swearing he would probably kill her once his work done.
"Us and the Lee's boys," Sully briefed, sharing a look with Thomas.
"That's alright," he nodded. "We take them out, then leave the bookies. I expect a swift victory which will send a signal all the way to London, that we believe in letting legitimate businesses run peacefully."
"Peace while you're shooting Kimber's men, Tommy," she snorted. "Very amusing."
"And what about Kimber himself?" John asked in a soft tone.
"I'll deal with Kimber myself," Tommy answered strongly. "Any other question?"
"Actually, yes," Polly spoke. "Does anyone object if I bring a newcomer to the meeting?"
"Maybe you can kick Arthur away in exchange," Sully offered. The said man rolled his eyes at her as Polly only avoid her comment.
"I'd like to introduce the newest member of the Shelby clan," Polly said with a bright smile while opening the door they had all walked through in order to let Ada appeared in the room, holding her baby in her arms, a faint smile on her lips. Everyone across the room applauded the young mother.
"Yeah!" Sully exclaimed as she approached the brunette, an arm slammed around her shoulders as she played with the baby's little hand.
"Welcome home, Ada," Tommy greeted.
"We named him Karl," Ada said to introduce her son.
"After Karl Marx," both girls explained at the same time, giggling at one another.
"Karl blood Marx," Arthur giggled while walking to his younger sister. "Let me take a look at him." Sully moved from where she was standing to where Polly was, the two women exchanging a bright smile and a faint laugh.
"Well done, Pol," she congratulated. The woman rolled her eyes as the siblings were all speaking to one another. Sullivan looked at the picture they were forming, so beautiful in their reunion, the little baby in Ada's arms finally meeting all his family. She was gazing at them when Tommy looked back at her, a smile on his lips as he walked to her.
"What a family," she sighed dramatically. The man laughed as she waved to Karl whom of which seemed to look at her. She lifted back to him, her eyes sparkling with pure happiness. "Be safe alright? I don't need you to die right now."
"I'm fucking immortal, you should know by now," he replied with an amused eye roll.
"Excuse me," she joked as she grabbed a bit of his coat fabric in her hands. "I didn't know that behind all these wrinkled was waiting an immortal soul." He smacked her arm as she giggled.
"Now I'm offended," he stated while she was widening her eyes at him using her words.
"Nothing you can't get over," she smiled. "Please be careful."
"I always do," he assured. "Now more than ever since a beautiful woman's waiting for me." The girl's cheeks turned red as Tommy leaned forward to kiss her softly, his hands resting on her waist.
"Wait a minute," Arthur exclaimed as the couple broke their embrace, sighing to the man's intervention. "I thought I was your best friend but you fucking didn't tell me?"
"I -" she began only to be cut off by Arthur again.
"What a shame," he said as he crossed his arms over his chest, making her raise an eyebrow.
"Be grateful that you're risking your life later," she said as she stepped towards him. "Otherwise, you'd be already dead." Arthur rolled his eyes as the girl walked to Ada, the brunette smiling brightly at her. "If you'll excuse us, we have a lot to talk about."
Ada giggled as the blonde dragged her out of the door, before a hand was grabbing hers from behind.
"And you're not even kissing goodbye, eh?" Tommy frowned, watching at her with wide eyes.
"I'm turning you to such a cheesy lad," she joked while she stood on her tiptoes, locking her lips with his in a gentle kiss. "Can I leave now, Romeo?" she asked with a faint laugh.
"Yeah alright," the man laughed too before the girls were walking into the house. Ada sat on a couch with her son playing on her laps, smiling to her baby boy sweetly. Sully watched them play for a while, watching as the mother dragged her son to her chest, hugging him tightly.
"Freddie's coming back," the brunette announced. "And now you and Tom are finally together, God, that's what I call a fucking good day."
"Oh come on," Sully said by blushing slightly. "You're beautiful Ada."
"Don't try to change the fucking topic," Ada exclaimed, making her son flinch lightly, his big eyes wide opened as he tried to understand what was happening. The woman excused herself to her son with a light voice, giggling at his manners.
"I'm not trying anything," Sully defended herself. Ada rolled her eyes, smirking to herself as her son pulled himself against her chest, his big eyes watching the blonde in front of her.
"Alright, then I want all the details." The girl laughed, making the baby clapped his hands with an enjoyed scream. The blonde couldn't help but play with her hands awkwardly to make the baby laugh again.
"There are no fucking details," Sully said with a smile. "We're just figuring out everything."
"And both of you are doing well, eh," Ada replied with a bright smile, making the blonde move awkwardly on the sofa, her body trying to erase the uncomfortable state she was in. Ada chuckled when she took sight of the girl's movements, Karl's eyes closing slowly as he fell asleep against his mother.
She knew her eyes were sparkling with love as she eyed the baby on Ada's laps, now sleeping, his little hands wrapped around her mother's. He looked like her, but he had Freddie's eyes, obviously. His tiny hair was dark, typical of the Shelby family, his skin was pale, and like Ada, he had light freckles spread around his face. He was such a beautiful baby she couldn't do anything but fall in love with him.
"You have a really beautiful Karl," she complimented as Ada leaned forward to look at her son's face, his eyes opening quickly as he felt her mother's movement in his back.
"He looks like Freddie," she stated dreamily, her eyes full of happiness as she lifted back to her friend. "I can't wait to see yours." Sullivan rolled her eyes, chuckling at the idea, even if it was honestly dreamy to think about that. Ada sighed as she asked for a minute just to put her baby in bed.
Ada was right, her baby looked like Freddie.
As she was thinking about that, chewing on her bottom lip, the front door slammed open, Tommy appearing in the doorway, his eyes looking everywhere at the same time.
"Oi, I just put my baby in bed," Ada screamed as she walked down the stairs, Polly appearing behind her. Both women looked at Sully and Thomas as the man walked quickly to the blonde, grabbing his hand to make her stand up.
"Pack your things, you need to leave," he said as he looked at his sisters and his girlfriend. "Both of you."
"What's that about?" Sully asked as she tried to establish eye contact with him, but he was looking elsewhere when he responded.
"I've been fucking betrayed, Kimber's men are coming here," he explained quickly, his hands slamming against the wall. "Fuck!" he yelled as Sully reached for his forearm, a frown on her face.
"Wait, that's not possible, I was the only one -," she stopped talking when she realized that she wasn't the only one that had known about the black star day. "Who else?"
"Grace," he whispered, his hands running through his hair as she snapped her head up to him.
"You're kidding, aren't you?" she said with a faint laugh, though it was an angry laugh. Polly cleared her throat as she exited the house, speaking slightly but the girl didn't listen. She was too busy thinking about the barmaid. She should've told him. However, she didn't.
"What are we going to do, now?" she asked desperately, looking up to her man.
"You're staying here," he answered. "Both of you." The blonde laughed, her hand putting itself on Thomas' shoulder. The dark-haired man frowned, not finding that situation amusing.
"I'm not staying in there while you're fucking fighting," she said calmly.
"Oh yes you are," he replied, pulling her to his chest. "Keep an eye on Ada, and if something happens..."
"I'll kill them all alright," she cut off, her head lifting to his. She then gazed at Ada, escaping from Tommy's embrace. "Alright girl, now that's what we're doing," she sighed by shrugging as Tommy left in a rush, mumbling a slight 'I love you' to the women. Ada let her body fall on the couch as Sully stayed up, crossing her arms on her chest.
"No alright Ada," she finally spoke up, walking to the woman. "We can't just sit on our asses like this, we're fucking Blinders' girls and now we're going to defend our territory and our men." The brunette nodded, slapping her friend's arm playfully as she listened to Sully exposing her plan, a bright smile on her face, before they walked out of the house, chatting happily with one another on their ways.
Their heels were clicking on the ground, and when they got to the boys' meeting, she could tell that nobody had expected them there. The two women walked straight to the empty space between the two gangs, as Freddie called out for Ada.
"Shut up," she shouted, glancing at her husband as Sullivan glared at Tom, making him clearly understand that he shouldn't dare. He shook his head slightly as the women stopped, one facing the Blinders and the other Kimber's men. Ada cleared her throat as the both of them looked at each other, Ada's baby resting in his pram, babbling softly.
"Here we are," Sully began, her voice loud as she addressed to all the men around. "A no-man's-land, isn't it?" she asked rhetorically to her friend behind her, which nodded her head in agreement.
"That's well called," Ada said with a shrug. "Because we're women." They winked at each other while Kimber snorted in front of Sully.
"I recognize you," he said by pointing his finger at her.
"Yeah no shit," she answered as Ada cleared her throat to speak.
"Now, most of you were in France. So you all know what happens next. I've got brothers and a husband here but you've all got somebody waiting for you. Now, I'm wearing black in preparation. I want you to look at me. I want you all to look at us. Who'll be wearing black for you? Think about them. Think about them right now. And fight if you want to, but that baby ain't moving anywhere."
"Neither do us," Sullivan completed, sharing a look with Ada.
"That's fine, girls are fucking right," Kimber said, making Sullivan turn his way with a frown. She didn't believe it, and as soon as he added more to his sentence, she knew her feelings were right. "Why should all men die? Let's just kill the ones who caused it." The blonde widened her eyes as the man hold his gun in the hair.
And then, everything happened fast.
Kimber shot once. Danny Whizz-Bang's body fell on the ground as she gasped, already grabbing Ada's wrist with a scream as she pushed her and the baby to the side, running with them until another gunshot could be heard. She watched Tommy's body fall on the ground. Air seemed to froze as she watched him and his brothers around him. She screamed his name as Ada reached for her arm, pushing her out from the fighting place. A tear rolled down her cheek as Thomas stood up, firing just one time again. This time, it was Kimber's turn to bite the dust for the last time of his miserable life.
As all of Kimber's men stepped to attack the Blinders, Tommy raised his hands in the air as he spoke.
"Kimber and me fought this battle one on one. It's over. Go home to your families." As soon as he ended his talk, Sullivan ran to him, watching at his injury.
"Alright, great battle," she congratulated. "Now we're taking that thing out of you." As he slammed on arm around her shoulder, laying his body against hers, she looked around to find Arthur on her right. They walked into the Garrison, and she let go of Tommy as soon as the man grabbed his shoulders, sitting him on a table.
"I'll take some alcohol," she announced, rushing behind the counter. As she ran back to where Thomas was settled, she reached for his hand, staying by his side as Jeremiah tried to take out the bullet. She gasped when the first scream of pain left his throat, as she tightened her hand around his.
"It's alright, Tom," she said, trying to cover the men's voices by her own. "Look at me, you're alright, Thomas Shelby," she added as his eyes landed on her face. She held back her tears from his pain as he watched at her face. Finally, Jeremiah reached for the bullet in his torso, making Tommy scream one more time before Arthur gave him the bottle of rum she had reached for earlier.
"Have a drink," Arthur ordered, pushing the blonde gently out of his way. As she did so, her man swallowed the alcohol as Arthur spilled some of it on the injury. Tommy roared one more time before the men stepped back, letting him some air to breathe and some space for Sullivan to bandage him and clean up everything.
Once it was done, Sully turned to Tommy, whom of which was standing awkwardly by the counter, gazing at her.
"What are you staring at?" she asked as he scoffed. "Being shot don't allow you to fucking stare."
"I told you," he stated, his hands resting on the wooden counter. "I'm immortal." She laughed, sliding behind the counter as she wrapped her arms around his shoulders fondly.
"Shut up and kiss me, idiot."
