03; rumor has it

"What are you drawing, sweetheart?" Sully asked softly to the little girl next to her, whom of which lifted a little to stare in her eyes.

"You," the girl answered with a smile, Sully replacing a brownish lock of hair behind the girl's ear. After what John had told her about their children, she had decided to babysit them while the boys were away for the fair with the Lee family. So when she heard the boys' footsteps running down the stairs, she lifted her eyes to look at them, all stopping at her sight.

"You came," John happily stated, the little girl sat next to Sully running to her father, gripping his leg and held it tight. Sully stood up, a kind smile on her face.

"I told I would, right?" John nodded, his two brothers still staring at the woman. "I took my day off, to babysit them. Maybe I'll go to the Garrison tonight when yall will come back," she said, the men shooking their heads at her explanation. "Alright, take care of you there, don't put yourselves in trouble," she said with a soft voice, her eyes catching Tommy's ones. He gave her one of his signatures half-smiles, her chest warming up at the sight of it.

As the boys left, Sully found herself sharing fairytales with the kids, all sitting around her in the living room. When John's boys started to get agitated, Sully smiled and cleared her throat.

"Do you guys want to play hide and seek?" The kids nodded joyfully, until Finn appeared in the doorway.

"You're seeking then," he stated while the kids were already running out of the room, screaming to Sully to count.

"You guys have one minute!" she exclaimed as Polly sat at the dining table, a smile on her face as she watched the blonde.

"You'll do a wonderful mother, you know," Polly said softly, making Sully's smile fade a little. "I hope you and Tommy'll have beautiful kids." Sully rolled her eyes and laughed, a real laugh this time. It seemed to the older woman that eternity had passed since Sully had laughed that way.

"I think I should go seek them before you'll wash my brain with your nonsense," Sully chuckled, as Pol sent her a wink.

Sully climbed up the stairs, her eyes scanning the corridor, trying to hear every noise, every step that the kids could make. As she reached for Tommy's bedroom, she found that the door was opened, which was a very unusual thing for her. She stepped in, gazing at the dark walls, the well-made bed, the bedside table holding a book and some other things on it, and the Christ on the wall above his bed. She found Finn behind a piece of furniture, watching her with careful eyes.

"Finn, I don't think we're allowed here," Sully warned, outstretching her hand to grab him, but Finn avoided her approach.

"I feel comfortable here," the boy explained. "I miss my old brother, you know," Finn whispered, his eyes focused on his hands.

"Oh, honey," the woman shushed, running her hand to the boy's hair. "Thomas' still the same, don't worry." Finn shook his head vigorously, his eyes growing glossy of emotions.

"You don't understand," he stated firmly.

"Then explain," Sully encouraged softly. Finn nodded, inhaling deeply though.

"You're not around when we are," he started. "His eyes, Sully, they're empty, like he was a fucking ghost, it's painful to see." Sully felt her chest tighten when she heard his words, trying to hold back her own pain about this statement.

"I'm sorry about that, Finn," she whispered, crouching down to face the boy. "I know it will take time, but Tommy will be better, Finn. It takes time to recover from the war, and he has to take this time for himself. But you have to know," she said as she patted his cheek affectionately, "that I will never, ever give up on him, neither on each one of you Shelbys."  Finn pursed his lips together, tears rolling down his cheeks, as he wrapped his arms around Sully's neck. She hugged him back, trying to ignore the burn in her eyes too.

"Finn, you lost!" Sully turned around, facing the other kids behind them.

"Alright, you caught him," she said with pride in her voice, standing up and clasping her hands together. "What do you think if we get to bother Polly, guys?" Finn shook his head, his face made up again.

"She probably left for church," he replied, stepping out of the bedroom. Sullivan followed his lead, closing the door behind them.

"Then you could all draw or something, yeah? I have to go to my house quickly, just for a book and some crayons for you, and we'll prepare lunch for Polly, alright?" The kids nodded, already got down the stairs. "Oh, and I don't want any of you in Tommy's or Arthur's bedroom, understand?" They nodded as they took place at the different tables around the living room. Finn turned to look at gaby as she grabbed her coat, putting it on her tiny shoulders.

"I'll be back in ten minutes, Finn please keep an eye on your nephews, yeah?" Finn sighed but nodded, as the other kids smiled at her.

She exited the house, running in hers. She unlocked the front door, walking in the little hall. She slammed it closed, walking up the stairs, opening her bedroom door and grabbing her Romeo and Juliet book on the bedside table. As she turned on her heels to exit the room, she heard her front door being opened and closed slightly. She frowned, knowing that it wasn't Finn because he would've knocked. Carefully, she walked down the stairs, looking around her, finding nobody in the living room, while she knew they was someone in there. She could feel it. Danger. Sully had just put a foot on the living room floor that she was pushed against the wall, a body slamming against hers roughly. She gasped as a hand gripped her throat tightly.

"You thought you would escape our descent, you idiot," the cop whispered in her face, his hot breath touching her face. "You thought that Shelby would be the only one touched?"

"Get off me," Sully ordered, her legs moving through the air, trying to escape this assault. "I don't even know what you're talking about, fucking get off me!" Her right leg hit his ankle, making the man groaned and squeezed her throat tighter.

"Don't fucking try anything on me, whore," he cursed, his fingers getting further in her skin. She wondered if she would have his fingerprints tattoed on her skin like Danny's fist a few days ago, and as he held her throat tighter, making the action of breathing hard, she understood that maybe it would have more than just fingermarks.

"Just tell your friends or whatever they're that we're waiting for the Shelby's help," the copper said between gritted teeth. "This Arthur said he would help us, we sending him the message that he should bloody do it," the man threatened, releasing Sullivan from his grip. She fell on the ground loudly, her back pressed against the wall. The copper crouched down to face her, grabbing his face with one of his hands hardly. He watched her for a few seconds before speaking again.

"They're right, you're a very pretty prostitute. Too bad I can't have a bit," he teased with a disgusting wink. He stayed in this position for a second and opened his mouth, this time spitting on her face. At the degrading action, Sully felt so ashamed that tears burnt her eyes. He smiled wickedly, stood up and exited the house, slamming the door behind him.

She stoop up mechanically, walked out of her house and locked it, entering again in the Shelbys residence. All the kids lifted to look at her as she closed the door quietly behind her, her eyes empty, the copper's split still on her cheek. She stayed there a second, watching the space in front of her, before she fell on her knees, hiding her face in her hands as she sobbed loudly, Finn rushing to her with a worried look in his eyes. At the same time, the front door opened on Polly, whom of which found Sully in her hysterical state.

"Go in your room, Finn," she ordered. "And bring the kids with you." Polly held Sullivan in his arms, shushing sweet words in her ears as the blonde slowly calmed down. Polly sat her at the table, placing a hot cup of tea in front of her. And then, Sully couldn't stop speaking about the assault, making Polly gasped at the last part of it. Polly grabbed the girl's hand as she told her her own experience with the coppers.

"His name is fucking Campbell," Polly said with a harsh tone. "I heard on my way back that they messed with the pubs in town."

"I bet not with the Garrison though," Sully guessed, sipping her tea quietly. The women waited for the men, holding hands in silence. When the front door slammed open, Sully jumped slightly, earning herself a few sweet words from Polly. The boys came in, looking at them with worried eyes. Finally, Tommy spoke.

"Are you alright?" Sully lifted her gaze at him, glossy eyes meeting dry ones, making him furrowed his eyebrows.

"Yeah, we made new best friends obviously," Sully sarcastically answered, as she grabbed a cigarette in her coat pocket, which she still had on her shoulders. She lit it up with Polly's matches.

"What do you mean?" Tommy asked in a tensed tone, leaning forwards to face her better.

"We met the really sweet Inspector Campbell and his friends," she replied, taking a drag of her cigarette, her eyes filling with tears. "Polly and I have been fucking attacked," Sully said with a shaky voice, her eyes gazing at the back of the living room. Arthur growled, making Tommy looked at him slightly. The men sat around the women, Tommy sitting on Sully's left, his eyes locked on her shaky frame. Polly told them what happened to both of them, making the boys gasped sometimes. John served them some whiskey, which Sully drank in one shot.

"They told everyone Arthur has agreed to it when he was arrested," Pol stated.

"Yeah, the copper told me that too, and that you Blinders were gone to let them do it." Arthur's fist connected with a table in a loud noise, making Sully jump once again.

"I never said nothing to that copper about smashing up bloody houses," he growled, making Thomas sighed faintly.

"Alright," he spoke, his deep voice connected Sully to the reality. "Which pubs did they do?" Polly and Sully exchanged stared at each other before the blonde spoke.

"Each one which paid the Blinders for protection, except the Garrison of course," she snorted, rolling her eyes as she lit up another cigarette. "I have to admit, he is fucking smart." As Tommy and Polly discussed how way they should show the population that the Blinders weren't apart of this, Sully lost herself in her thoughts again. She stood up once the meeting ended, stepping out of the house, as she heard her name being called for behind. She turned around, taking sight of Thomas walking to her.

"Where did they assaulted you?" he asked.

"Did you even listen to your aunt, Tom?" she asked rhetorically, rolling her eyes. "At my place," she answered anyway.

"Alright, make sure someone will walking you home from the Garrison tonight, alright?" Sully frowned, not sure about what to respond.

"I don't know if someone will, but at least I'll try?" she said, already turning away from him. He grabbed her wrist, holding her.

"Then I'll do it," he stated, while the blonde just nodded.

"I guess I'll see you later then," she replied as shrugging her shoulder, escaping from his grip.  She walked down the streets as a hand is reaching for her forearm, making her snapping her head in the hand's body.

"What?" Arthur asked harshly as the woman laughed. She shook her head, blonde curls falling in front of her eyes.

"You'll never let go of me right?" she asked, Arthur snorting by her side. "Even to cross a street."

"After what happened a few hours ago, forgive me to keep an eye on you, idiot," Arthur cursed, a smile forming on the woman's lips. They walked in silence, Arthur watching her carefully while she was thinking about her evening. When they reached for the Garrison, Sully stopped and turned her head to her older friend.

"Thank you," she said softly, her arms wrapping themselves around the man's waist. Arthur giggled quietly, making the woman lift up to look at her.

"My pleasure, Miss Miller," he answered, Sully laughing to the politeness mark.

"Don't forget to let them see you," she said while Arthur walked away. Sully pushed the Garrison door, taking sight of the many customers in the pub. Grace frowned when the blonde slid down behind the counter, her eyes focused on her usual customers watching her with a smile.

"I thought you had taken your day off?" Grace asked with a faint voice as a man came to the counter, asking for a beer. Sully served him, then turned to the other barmaid with a kind smile.

"The Garrison's my home, you know," Sully grunted, making Grace laugh. Sully turned to another customer when Finn appeared in the pub doorway. He walked to the counter, his little hands high to caught Sully's attention. She let the customer in Grace's hands, turning to the boy.

"Hey lad, what you're doing here?" Sully flashed a smile to Finn's direction, the boy nodded vigorously.

"Can you give the King's picture, over there?" She exchanged a gaze with Grace, but she removed the picture from the wall behind her anyway. She gave him to Finn, watching him taking it carefully.

"Why do you need it?" Sully asked, catching some gazes on the boy.

"For a fire, Sully," he answered before running away from the pub.

"A fire?" Grace asked with a raised eyebrow, as Sully shrugged with a sigh.

"Yeah," she whispered. "It's been a long time since I stopped trying to understand them, you should give up too," Sullivan turned to the barmaid, "it will keep you from wasting too much energy." Harry nodded to approve her words. Sully laughed, lighting up a cigarette in the corner of her mouth.

Time passed by slowly, as this evening wasn't the busiest ever. Grace and herself were supposed to do the closure, and they started with joy. Sully was cleaning a table when she found herself humming one of her country's song when Grace cleared her throat. Sullivan turned around to see what was bothering the barmaid as the woman waved to the front door. Thomas was leaning against the doorway, his eyes settled on her.

"Oh, sorry," Sully excused herself as she grabbed the cleaning stuff to put them back behind the counter. "I haven't heard you come in." She jumped over the counter while Tommy shook his head, mumbling something to himself. As she tried to reach for her coat and handbag quickly, Grace leaned forward to speak in her ear.

"I heard something about both of you, today," Grace stated, a large smile on her face. "How well you two got along," she whispered.

"Rumor has it," Sully confirmed, making Grace's smile grew bigger. Sully put her coat on her shoulders, grabbing her handbag and sliding in front of the counter, starting to walk to Tommy, when she abruptly turned to Grace.

"Don't forget to think about that day off thing we talked about, yeah?" Grace nodded, and Sully turned to Thomas.

"You ready?" he asked softly, making her smile.

"Yeah," she replied, as Tommy opened the front door, a slight "after you" sliding from his mouth. She stepped out of the pub, Thomas following her closely. They walked silently in the streets, both lost in their thoughts. Tommy cleared his throat, Sully turned her head to look at him, but she spoke first.

"A fire? Really?" she asked with a laugh. Thomas snorted, watching her face curiously. "You're never out of ideas, Thomas Shelby." He nodded, taking a drag of his cigarette.

"The fair went bad," Tommy finally stated. Sully raised a brow at him. "Fucking Lee boys." Sullivan giggled, running her hand through her head nervously. She didn't speak, because she knew he won't gave her any details.

When they finally came to their properties, Sullivan inhaled deeply, her eyes focused on the front door.

"Hey," Tommy called calmly, "nobody's in there, alright?" Sully scoffed harshly.

"That's what I thought when that copper strangled me against a wall," she mumbled, watching her feet thoughtfully. Thomas sighed and shrugged, not knowing what to say to this. As Sully lifted her gaze to met his, his eyes went hard, the ocean eyes set on ice.

"Nobody's gonna hurt you again."  He thought, however, he didn't say a thing as his eyes followed her inside of her house, closing the door quietly behind herself.
