Chapter 37

Today is the day! Everyone's long awaited prom is finally here! The last few days of shopping for our prom dresses and all was hectic yet fun! The whole school was buzzing about this day. This hyped up the whole atmosphere.

"Hey Rach, what are you wearing for prom?" Zachary has been bugging me about this since 2 weeks ago.

"It's a surprise. Let this surprise be a success, alright?" I nudged him lightly in the sides.

Zachary have no choice but to keep guessing. Helen and I have agreed to not let Dylan and Zachary know what we are going to wear. Our parents did allow us to get our prom essentials from Elegance. Even if the prices they offered are reasonable. However, when all the things are added up together. It actually cost us quite a lot.

In order not to spend extra money on things we could save, we've came up with a couple of ideas. Since my mum took hair styling lessons during in her youth days, she's in charge of our hairs. As for the make up part, Helen and Nicole could help me out with that. Lastly, transportation, my dad will drive us there and back home.

"Girls, did Ella text you guys about prom recently?" Nicole suddenly asked us while we are trying to arrange our things.

"Hmm, nope she didn't. Why did you ask anyway?" Helen responded with a frown.

"Oh. She asked me where did we buy our things from. How are we going to prepare ourselves today."

As soon as Nicole's finished with her sentence, the doorbell rang. Could it be Ella? I wondered, but also thought that it's impossible.

"Rachel! Ella's here!" My dad informed me from downstairs and the three of us sprinted out of my room.

As we reached the bottom of the stairs, Ella appeared with my dad, carrying lots of bags.

"Hello." I greeted Ella awkwardly as it has been a long time since we spoke to each other.

"Ella! We're so happy you're here!" Nicole and Helen leaped forward and attacked Ella with a ferocious group hug. I merely looked at them and made no move to join in the hug. My mum gave me a light shove and an encouraging smile.

The group hug suddenly opened up and Ella reached out her arms in my direction. Stunned by her gestures, I blinked several times as my eyes felt hot. After an awkward silence, I took the special step forward and embraced Ella in a hug. Why special you might wonder? It's because that step meant our friendship is restored.

Hot tears flowed down in beads and gradually became a waterfall. I also felt dampness on the collar of my shirt. Helen and Nicole joined us in the hug and the number of girls crying doubled.

"Rach, I am so sorry for being such a brat. It took me such a long time to realise how important our friendship is to me." Ella mumbled but I could hear that clearly because we're still in the hugging position.

"Ella. You don't have to apologise, I can totally relate why you'd done that." I replied while moving out of the group hug.

Ella's face was wet with tears but a trembling smile was also there.

"Oh, Aunt Rebecca, do you mind that I came here without asking? I heard from Nicole that you're going to style up their hairs.." Ella asked with a sheepish look directed to my mum.

"Nonsense. I wouldn't mind at all, I've got lots of ideas to try. You're just helping me to experiment those hairstyles!" My mum exclaimed in excitement.

The four of us cleaned away our tears and went upstairs to change into our dresses.

I've chosen a navy blue, long open back prom dress featuring a beaded waist line. The prom dress was matched with a white and gold envelope clutch. I also wore a silver drop earrings with the necklace and bracelet Zachary gave me.

The girls have also matched their jaw dropping dresses with beautiful accessories. Honestly, the four of us are so gorgeous today. It's rare that I would do self praising. *laughs*

We took turns to walk down the stairs as our dresses are in the way. My mum set up her working station in between our living room and the kitchen.

"Okay, so now it's time for your hair girls!" My mum announced as she clasped her hands together in excitement. She doesn't have the chance to practice her skills on my hair. Since, I just go to school with a simple pony tail.

We leave the deicision to my mother on what type of hairstyle she's doing. I was the last one to do my hair since I have no idea how to apply makeup. By the time my mum is done with my hair, the girls are good to go. I specifically requested to have light makeup, as I am not really a fan of it. Except, when it comes to this kind of special occasions.

I rarely have the time to look in the mirror to check on my hair. The girls are giggling in delight as they started to decorate my face. It was when they are done with everything, then I have the chance to look at the mirror.
My mum styled my hair which would be known as glam curls. I am satisfied with the way it turned out and let out a breath of relief.

"Girls. How can we not take a selfie right now?" Ella asked while wriggling her smartphone in her perfectly manicured hands.

All of us squeezed into Ella's smartphone screen and gave our most happiest grin.

"Oh girls! Why not we help Rachel and Helen take photos of their back profile? After that, we'll send it to our group chat! I'm sure that'll make Zachary and Dylan even more curious!" Nicole suggested and have gotten an unanimous agreement.

"Both of you look to your left a little bit, not too much." Nicole instructed us and Ella was counting down from three to one.

"Done! Wow, this looks amazing! I'll send this, so that they'll know we're finally okay." Ella said and our smartphones dinged due to new notifications.

Zachary's POV

"Bro!" Jake shouted from the bathroom which made Dylan and I rushed out to see what happened.

There came Jake holding onto his smartphone and running towards us.

"Have you guys saw this?"

Dylan and I both exchanged quizzical looks and shook our heads.

"Where are your smartphones when you needed them?" Jake questioned with a I-cannot-believe-this look.

"Jake. Get straight to the point." I said and held back an exaggerating sigh.

Jake whistled and showed us the photo.

"Oh boys, what have you done to have such drop dead gorgeous girls as your girlfriend?" Jake jokingly fanned himself, as if the heat was getting to him. The way he acted reminded me of my grandma. Hold on. He was imitating my grandma.

I couldn't say for Dylan, but my eyes nearly bulged out when I saw Rachel's prom dress. It's bare back. Rachel didn't strike me as a girl who would reveal so much skin. No matter what, I love the way this dress look on her. Even if it's just the back view.

"Zach, could you please see who sent this message?"

Oh wow. It's Ella. I felt a smile graced my features as this problem was finally over.

The boys and I decided to head over earlier. So, here we are leaning against my car, waiting for our brides. Oops. I meant girlfriends. Except Jake though, he boasted about being #TeamSingle.

I was extremely nervous as Rachel refused to give me tiny weeny hint on her outfit. The photo Ella sent, didn't exactly show me if our outfits matched. Helen did tell Dylan a little bit about her prom dress so that he can match with her's. Rachel's different in the sense that she doesn't like couple wear, because she thought that it's cheesy. Fingers crossed that I've picked out the correct suit.

"Zach, calm down. You looked like you're in a church and anytime Rachel would be walking down the aisle." Dylan teased me and Jake laughed out loud in agreement.

"Guys.. Do me a favour, grow up." I muttered under my breath but still chuckled nervously.

"They're here!"

Rachel was the first one to come out and in a flash, I was holding the door for her. Rachel pulled up her dress so that she wouldn't trip over.

"Hey, Zachary." Rachel grinned at me and my breath was caught in my throat. Rachel was absolutely the most stunning girl I've ever met.

"Hmm.. Your worries are for nothing. Our prom outfits go well with each other!" Rachel laughed and raised her hand for a high five.

I clapped my hand against Rachel's and linked my fingers with her's in the process. Rachel and I simultaneously mouthed 'I love you' to each other.

"Love birds! C'mon, let's go!"

The seven of us linked our arms together and walked towards our bright futures.
