she loved Kibō.
The sun hit his face as he looked over to her side of the bed they shared, surprised to not see her there.
Where is she?
He suddenly heard the sound of metal being pushed from side to side as he stared at the window.
There she was in her old backyard in an old swing set they had built together as kids.
She looked out into the backyard of the neighbors where she admired the small white pomeranian rolling around in a pile of leaves.
That's right, she had a dog once.
He suddenly remembered the heart breaking memory which made him shiver throughout his whole body.
"Creepy! Creepy eyes!" The boys held her by her arms as she screamed in pain.
"Oy Sasuke! Get that stupid dog!" They commanded him as he looked at her in her pleading eyes but still went along with them.
"N-o!" She struggled to say.
"Hear that? The stupid creature is trying to communicate!" They laughed as Sasuke bought over the white small dog.
"Here's the stupid mutt." Sasuke laid it down on the floor as it tried to crawl away with its injured leg.
"You see Hyuga, this is what happens when you try to mess with us!" The boy stepped on the dog's injured leg as it cried out in pain.
Even for a death girl, she could hear his cries reach her heart.
"Come on, Sasuke! Get in on this!" The boy pulled him over.
"I don't know guys, isn't this a bit too much?" He said.
"Oh? What's that? Are you trying to turn on us!" The boy looked at him as Sasuke mouthed his words at Hinata.
Sorry.
He kicked the dog as it's blood began to cover its white coat.
She yelled.
"Shut her up!" The boy kicked her in the stomach as the teachers came running over.
"Sasuke! Banri! Satame! Principal's office now!" Itachi yelled as he looked at his brother in disbelief.
He bent down to Hinata's level as he helped her up.
She went towards the dog as in it's defense growled at her and tried to bite her.
He would never forget that look in his brother's eyes.
When they had driven on the way home he did not say a word to him.
"Nii-San?" He said but did not receive an answer like he always did.
"Go to your room, Sasuke. I don't want to speak with you right now." He said.
"Nii-San, I promise I didn't mean too."
"No you didn't, Sasuke but you still did. That's the problem."
"Nii-San."
"You know what? As a matter of fact, get your shoes. We're going out." He said.
"Where are we going?" He said.
"Get in the car. No more questions."
They had soon arrived at an animal shelter where Sasuke saw the dog from earlier.
The dog immediately recognized him and began to growl.
"Oh sorry about that! Some kids had beaten up badly before he got here. Honestly I don't know how people could be so heartless." The lady said.
"Picking on a poor defenseless animal, they have no heart." She said as she placed her hand in the cage to pet him as he allowed her too.
"They've must've been horrible kids then." Itachi said as Sasuke looked up at him with a sad face.
"Anywho, how can I help you?" She lifted herself up.
"Does that dog have a home yet?" Itachi pointed to him.
"As of now, no. We have put posters up but no one has seen to reclaim him and he had no chip."
"Well if he has no home yet, we'd like to take him." Itachi said.
"Eh?!" The lady smiled.
"We can't?" Itachi said.
"No, of course you can! I'm just surprised. People have entered here and have left for the past couple hours but just completely ignore him. I know he's a good boy and deserves the best home ever. I would take him home myself but I don't have room for another dog." She seemed sad.
Itachi began to fill out papers until she asked a question.
"So what made you choose this little guy?" She smiled as she put a collar and leash on him.
"Just like him, there's a girl who deserves him. She also gets picked on for being helpless. I think they'll get along." Itachi smiled at her.
"Kibō." She said.
Hope?
"I think you should name him Kibō. After all, he has a lot of hope for a new start and can bring that same hope to others."
And it was true. Even with that injured leg it began to hop along happily almost as if nothing was wrong with him. Of course he wouldn't look at me.
"Why didn't you tell on me?" I told him as he hooked my seatbelt on.
"That's something you'll have to learn on your own."
"But I did it! I hurt her and that dog! Why didn't you tell the truth!"
"Bingo." He said as we stopped outside a house that wasn't ours.
"Nii-san? This isn't our house." I said.
"Make things right, Sasuke." He handed me the dog leash.
I, then realized the name plate on the mailbox.
Hyuga.
I gulped but then sighed. He was right.
I opened the door for the dog as it hoped out but wouldn't look at me, just shivered.
I looked at my brother one last time before opening the front gate and walked onto the stairs.
I rang the doorbell as a lady opened the door.
"Can I help you?" She said.
"Is Hinata home?" I said.
"Yes, why?" She said.
"I want to give her something."
She suddenly came running behind her mom and shivered at the sight of me.
Just what kind of an asshole was I?
She suddenly recognized the dog as it recognized her and began to wag it's tail.
"The dog..his name is Kibō." I said to her.
"He's yours, now." I say as Hinata looks at her mom who quickly nods.
She suddenly pulls me in a hug which shocks me and her mom.
She ends up letting go quickly with a blushed face.
"Thank you." Her mom smiled as she began closing the door.
I walk towards my brothers car as he smiles at me.
"I'm proud of you, Sasuke." He said.
Kibō ended up dying of old age which made Hinata sad for a whole month. I wouldn't blame her though. He was a little goofball after all.
Sometimes I think she might still be sad about it but doesn't remember.
I walk outside and began pushing her on the swing which surprised her.
"Don't think anything weird about it." I say.
She just smiled at me as I pushed her.
She ended up laughing but then stopped quickly which caused me to feel bad.
That laugh, that smile, I took that all away from her when we were younger that now she was afraid to show it.
