Chapter 3
So, we decide to go neither left nor right, but decide to try the path out behind us.
We walk for about ten minutes on the straight path leading through the woods, when we see a light, very faintly, in the distance. Thinking it might be a streetlight outside of the woods, we start running towards it.
The light gets brighter and brighter, until we are standing in a clearing. There, in the middle of the cleaning, is the creepy, old and haunted house that we were looking for in the first place. We stop dead in our tracks and just stare at the house, not sure what to think.
The house is a dark brown colour, and, in some places, there is a layer of moss covering the walls. The moss is black, such a black I have never seen before. The roof of the house is also a dark colour, probably a dark blue, but it is so dark that you cannot see what colour it originally was.
Everything about the house is creepy and dark, except for what we had been running to.
The light we saw in the woods, the light we had been running to, is coming from the house. THAT HOUSE! The house that has supposedly been abandoned for over a hundred years! And now there is a light shining out from the inside of it.
I am obviously not the only one with that thought, because both Johnny and Lucy are looking at the house with a frightened expression on their faces.
"This can't be right. This house is supposed to be abandoned. But then how can there be light shining out through the inside?" Lucy's voice is shaking.
Johnny and I cannot get a word out though, so we just shake our heads to tell her that we do not know.
"Let's get out of here", I say turning around with the other. We try to run back to the end of the clearing, where the woods start again, but there is some invisible shield keeping us from escaping the clearing and getting into the woods.
"What is this for a sick joke?" Johnny asks, sounding annoyed, but yet scared himself.
Suddenly they hear a knock at the door of the house. They all turn around immediately to find nobody in sight.
"You both did just hear that knock at the door, didn't you? I am not imaging this and going crazy, am I", Lucy looks at us with horror on her face.
"No, you are not imaging it. I heard it too and I think Johnny did too, didn't you?", I asks him. He nods in reply.
Just then we hear the knocking again, but there is nobody there, nobody visible anyway.
"Only explanation I have is that it is coming from inside the house", Johnny tells us and carefully starts walking towards the door, with me following close behind and Lucy hanging onto my arm again.
"Do we really have to go and investigate?" she cries.
Johnny puts his hand to his mouth, telling her to shut up, which she does immediately.
We are standing right in front of the door now, Lucy still whining quietly next to me.
My heart is racing, and my blood pressure is probably extremely high.
Johnny grips the door handle, when another knock is heard. We all jump, and Lucy and I scream for a second, when Johnny's hands cover both our mouths, shutting us up.
Then he slowly pulls his hands away and takes hold of the door handle again and carefully pressed it down.
As if a gust of wind just shot past us, the door swings open.
Johnny carefully places one foot into the house. The floor starts to creak, showing how old the floorboards really are.
We all carefully step into the house. I look at Johnny with a scared expression on my face. He carefully takes my hand into his and squeezes it reassuringly, smiling at me.
I smile back, glad that he is here with me.
